I think as a collector, you are wanting a full collection, manual included because that's how the game originally came, so I don't think you're wrong for wanting the manual included, quite the opposite in fact
Spending £200 in cex is an absolute nightmare, having to check every single item is correct before you leave the store is EXHAUSTING. I can’t even be bothered with cex, not a single employee gives the slightest shit about what they are handling so it’s just not worth shopping in there anymore.

This channel has got me completing my ps3 collection for actually great prices by using CeX. Stuff like Ken’s Rage 2 for £40, Two Worlds 2 GOTY for £5 & Xcom Enemy Within for £2.50. Was able to get that Deadfall Adventures Collectors edition too for my Xbox. Keep it up mate, absolutely loving these videos

I’m a bit mixed on collecting with and without manual. I definitely prefer to collect with a manual, but if it’s a lot cheaper to get it without it doesn’t bother me that much. I picked up silent hill 3 on eBay without a manual and it was like half the price. I’m not that bothered about a booklet to pay double 😂

Manuals!! As a child when we got a new game what did we do. Rush home to play it, manuals stayed in the box. It's about playing and enjoying the game, manuals are just a bonus.
No some games you actually need manual's for story content, also I would never give CEX my money
I stopped caring about the manual in most games except for the expensive ones. My hard rule has been anything over the $50-$60 range has to be complete and I’m really good condition or I don’t want it. Anything under that still has to be nice but I overlook the minor details and don’t mind missing manuals. Or games where the manual is part of the display. Those also have to be complete.

For me personally I always have to have he manual just for that nostalgia of being able to flip through the manual like I did so many times on the car ride home from the shop waiting to play
Going to be honest, not interested in the systems he collects for BUT his enthusiasm and the spark in his eye when he sees a bargain or sees an injustice e.g. repro being sold as original, is so infectious. Even my wife who has zero interest in videogames thinks it is fun watching how happy he gets, and how jealous i get of his gaming set up.
A shoot em up I enjoyed was Sine Mora. But I think that's on the PS3/4 and PSvita. Great graphics and level design.

I know what you mean with the manuals, the funny thing last week was I got 3 megadrive games 'unboxed' however all 3 had boxes and 2 had manuals.. yet cex had them displayed unboxed 😆 thr women who served me even said to me ",these are unboxed! Does that matter to you?" I was like ummm no 😂
I collect for 360 and Xbox One/Series X. Manuals are pretty common for most games and all my games have the manuals until recently. I've started to see games massively increase on price on ebay compared to CEX. We are talking £10 games being £45-£60, and CEX don't even have stock. Went with a CEX roulette a few times and will source a manual at a later date as I want to play them. I think the impeding 360 store closure is pushing prices up, and I think they will come down soon.

Well all my Mega Drive games have manuals (and the hanging tab) so when I buy a new one I feel like I can't let that standard drop now. Fortunately I'm only looking for one or two more games, so I can afford to be a bit picky and take my time. I often think the fun is in the search though. I go to retro game stores and CEX every time I pass one and rarely buy anything, but when I eventually see one I want and it's in nice condition and complete, it feels like a real victory.
In my case I'm very strict about the manual. I wouldn't buy it without it and that often puts me in the spot of not buying it, but the truth is that i don't need it to play as I have everdrives to all my consoles.
So to sum up, if i don't buy it in the condition I want to, I don't buy it at all.

I sold every game from every generation as the next came out, going back to Mega Drive. When the nostalgia started to hit in 2018, the first game I bought with a Mega Drive was Chiki Chiki Boys. Pure nostalgia hit when I started that game up, on a console I hadn't played since about 1995. Sure it cost about £10 with manual back in 2018. Prices have shot!
At first I thought you may have purchased my game of the Chik Chik Boys from Cex but when you mentioned about the condition and the manual missing I knew it wasn’t mine. Wish I’d have known of your channel about 2 years ago when I traded mine in.
I am a newish viewer and I have been wondering why dont you collect nes, ds or 3ds? ds is relitavely cheap to collect for and there are some amazing games that never made it off the system.
On some older videos he explained that NES is too retro for him. Grew up on SNES and mega drive so anything before that era doesn't have the nostalgia or whatever to pull him in

Im collecting the gamecube players choice set and for me i have to have the manuals for it to be complete.
As a Megadrive collector myself I was unsure about the with or without Manual debate. I have bought about 10 games since without Manuals but they are winding me up to the extent where I have traded 2 back in and bought the version with the Manual which has cost between 5-10 extra each time to original price. Gotta have the manuals in my opinion cos when you open the box without it, it's just not the same lol.... 😂

Good to see the mega drive pickups I myself have been on a bit of a megadrive journey recently and picked up loads of MD games but still need chiki boys and arrow flash for my collection

Flipping through the manual is part of the nostalgia for me. I'd only consider w/o manual for the lower end games really.
Personally, with Mega Drive happily take a decent box + cart and no manual. I've had some absolute shockers recently.

Iv'e had some very nice condition games off CEX but also some absolute shockers... Overall they're OK but as you say also a bit of a lottery too. I currently have (not especially rare) Alice: Madness Returns, Xcom Enemy Within, Overlord 1&2, and Fable Anniversary (all for 360) on order with them, so we'll see... I'll be pissed if Alice doesn't come in OK condition because the price on that one is starting to get up there. I suppose I should've just used ebay.
The problem with mega drive games is you expect the manual because of the plastic cases. To me, I would set a price limit to what you are comfortable settling without manual. Also, the arcade version of Mega Twins is on the Retro Supercade if you see it at a reasonable price if you want a 2 player option.

...and you already have it. Off the top of my head you should get XII Stag and Samurai Aces. There is also Homura but it is absurdly expensive.

Better to have the game than not. If you want a manual you can always pick them up as and when.
Some great additions to the collections - definitely feels like a fullset of megadrive is incoming in the future haha

I got only 1 shooter game in my collection that I think you should get if you don't have it, Metalslug Anthony on the ps2. It's kinda expensive now a days though. BTW here in Sweden Gradius V is like 700-800 SEK
Always with the manual unless you find a bargain. If you are collecting just to play then stop and get an Everdrive instead
So for me manuals are fine when it doesn't push a price through the roof. My sega is really only master system, but I buy to play first, so I'd rather have the game regardless of box or manual initially, if a boxed or complete one pops up at a later date with the manual at a sensible price then I'd upgrade.
My take on prices would be similar, if things were ever sensible then complete never be more than double just a box, which in turn should only be a max of 25% more than a loose cart.
If you worked that on £10 loose cart :
it would go £10 loose, £12.50 box, £25 complete (and obviously reducing depending on condition!)
Then the higher the value initially then it should actually reduce the gap not increase it.
However it's never that simple , Buggy Run on the master system is often £200 dearer to have the manual! Screw that, I'll just press buttons to work out what to do!

What do you expect when buying second hand online from cex? Going to return one because there's one local? But that'll still be in second hand condition? If I was buying something to collect and keep in mint condition I wouldn't buy from cex 😅
cex price changes good for sellers not for buyers harder to catch them slipping,someone in store said it was do with resellers in store and you tubers that they changed pricing not sure if thats true.

Manuals have never really bothered me tbh, obviously it is nicer to get with, but at the end of the day, as good ol' retro chef says, you don't play the manuals 😂🤣

I got rid of a lot of higher end manuals recently. Some manuals went for almost the same price I paid for the game. Having the box for the art and the game to play I literally don't care anymore 😂
For PS2 shoot'em up I'd recommend Psyvariar, decent and cheap £12 CEX, just don't mention it on the channel before you buy it! :D
Some cheap compilation titles that have old shooters, Taito Legends 1 &2, & Midway Arcade Treasures 1 & 2.

Mate those first two RIGHT up my street. Gradius V is such an amazing game and the best looking shooter on the PS2 by a country mile. It even puts some DC and 360 shooters to shame in my opinion. Though yeah you’re not wrong it is BRUTALLY hard.
Then I knew what was coming next before you even showed it. Again great games, but boy are they difficult. I think it was slated at little as it was a launch title I think and folks were expecting next gen type visuals and gameplay, but what they got was a small collection of two old games which didn’t exactly push the PS2 hardware wise.
Though I have to tell you that Gradius III is a better game on the SNES/SFC and looks, sounds and play sooo well. It’s also an easier game and is all the better for it as it’s WAY more accessible. You really need to find a way to play it on your snes as it’s one of the best shooters on the system in my opinion.
As for other PS2 shooters, loads never left Japan and the ones that did that you haven’t got are kind of expensive. Dragon Blaze comes to mind, but then you’ve already got it on the Switch as part of the Psikyo Collection.
I’m not a fan of Arrow Flash. It’s not a bad game per se, just a little generic and not that exciting as the levels are a little bland. That’s said it’s a nice l addition to the MD shooter set that.
If you want my opinion and what I do personally, I buy the game and if no manual, I get one reproduced. Reason being it makes it feel complete, doesn’t display so doesn’t matter, and I actually LOOK at it when playing sometimes. Its just for me, so its just to be able to look at myself. So I even prefer repro.
Ohhhhh I'll just take a moment to be really envious of your PS2 TV lol. Iv been trying to justify getting one of those. But only one person in this household would truly benefit from it and he's 6 years old and .....not a bloody chance he's getting something I would want lol
I'd say you need Raiden 3 on your PS2.... but that's only so I can drive prices up even crazier than they are and I can sell mine :)

I have to say, i really love that the PS2 games overseas have blue cases. I love my PS2 collection but id love to see it on the shelves in blue, looks so cool to me. I have Gradius III, IV & V thankfully & got em before the price craziness. I also own Gradius Collection on PSP. Theee are awesome shmups on the Arcade Collection discs for the PS2 such as Taito Legends, Capcom Collections, Midway Arcade Treasures and etc.... Castle Shikigami is also another to check out if ur interested. As for Genesis, I like getting stuff CIB if I can but id much prefer buying those mini box custom display boxes for genesis and displaying them that way and saving money and time finding em CIB. I have both CIB and Loose for Genesis. Just the way it happened lol. Love ur channel btw, im rather new to it but really enjoying ur content. People like u inspire me to make videos with my collection. Thank you

make sure you have spare ps2 controllers when you play Gradius V, I guarnatee at least one of them will be in several pieces before you complete the game, either from multiple throws at the wall or you battering it with a hammer :) really nice game but massively frustrating
I would recommend you check out The Red Star on PS2. It's a shmup / run and gun combo.

Raiden III on PS2 is one to check out. It's a great Shmup. When I got it was £160 at cex last I looked it was £70 😂 biggest decrease I've had on a cex buy. That would make a.interestinf video actually. Titles you've bought that are now cheaper...
I am very selective now of what i buy box wise. Im perfectly fine getting loose carts for Super Nintendo and Your right when it comes to different CeX i was shocked when i received my Pitfall on the snes last week it was the last one at the time online and it came in cartridge sized protector case with A miniture double sided copy of the games official box art and it just looked so cool. I was like thank, which ever Cex it came from. As i said earlier, ordered complete in Box N64 Clayfighter 63 1/3 absolute. Ironicalky, i week after i got it it went up by 10 quid. A year ago, I ordered Snes MK2 box complete and wasnt in best condition and the instruction booklet, well, the front and back had been torn off but were still in box. I went to trade it in too my local Cex today, and thought they might trade in as boxed but no manual becasuse of state but they wouldnt take unless i traded it as unboxed which i was not doing and took it back.
I would prefere the manual. It just makes the purchase complete.

Something you PAL collectors don't care about is 50hz. Although just looking it up Gradius seems to have 60hz options on the PAL version. The only PAL PS2 games I have that I actually care about have 60hz options. I would never blind buy a PAL PS2 game without checking it out first. Folk out there paying hard earned money for crappy conversions. Like folk who buy God of war on PAL PS2, the USA version is like light years ahead with 60frames, 480p output and what not, PAL gets you interlaced and 50hz garbage. Do you even play in 60hz on the PAL versions? Or just go with the flow? Megadrive shmups are kind of expensive these days, I've owned most of them for many years and I have all the ones you bought today. I collect mostly NTSC megadrive and Genesis and only buy the PAL version if its not optimized and region free, since then it plays on my USA hardware as the dev originally intended.

I've been debating the same thing recently you wait so long for them with manual games to come into stock, I'm not going for a full megadrive set🤔🤣 but i do want some of the heavy hitters and I've been thinking recently is a manual worth £40/£50 to me which the completionist in me says yes but the impatient side that just wants the game says no that extra money could buy another game. I also have a complete mega swiv if be willing to part with if it helps you get that bit closer to the full smup set

Mega Drive manuals are rubbish. They’re pretty much always black and white, multi language, tiny text and rubbish blurry screenshots. They’re nothing like SNES manuals. You’re not missing out.

I'd have to go manual all day long, i much prefer buying psychical copies of my games and its so disappointing that no modern games comes with one. Stoopid internet manuals and guides pfffttt who needs them....im kidding but please just gives us a manual even its a bit of card with instructions on it
