    I have a 3 way active JL Audio C7) front stage, and it's tuned with JL Audio TunMax (5 mic array), and it's worth the money. This is my first time doing active 3-way with A-Pillars. You would know the difference. That setup is in my Durango Hellcat which is pretty much the exact same SUV as yours.
    In contrast, I have the new Focal Power M's 2 way active in my truck, also active and TunMax'd. That also sounds awesome, but I'll never go back to 2 way.
    But..... I do agree 100% with you Dave, if you don't have a killer tuner that can properly do time alignment, phase, all-pass filters, angling them correctly, etc you're completely wasting money. The guys at AMS in Madison, WI did my pillars and they're perfect. They might be able to duplicate my pillars for your Grand Cherokee.

      I have heard lots of 3-way systems as I mentioned at the MECA competitions I went to, everyone had 3-ways and one being the Focal Rep and they all placed below me. They had a few JL Audio cars there with the full C7’s and VXi amplifiers. All scored lower than me as I had the highest scores. The only car in all of Canada that had a higher score that year competed in Master Class and was out of Ontario Canada I believe he scored a 85.5 and if you looked at the best scores of all time that is right up there. Mine was an 82.5 but that’s because I never had my M17 then and my sub box was mediocre so the bass slightly pulled to the back briefly on a couple of the tracks on the MECA album.
      I always bring up Nick Wingate and his Truck who won in the US with his 2-way system in 2018 best all the 3-Ways and we are talking the best cars in North America that year.
      I’m not saying 2-way is better than a 3-way but if tuned really well you won’t tell the difference. Everyone who has heard my vehicle asks me where my mids are. Then I let them know they sitting in a box at home with all my other car audio stuff 😆
      I have always liked some of JL Audio products like the original Slash Amplifiers and the JL W6 and 7’s but I have never liked their speakers except the old 8inch ZR800’s for mid bass. The Tune Max is a great piece of equipment but it’s expensive and you still need a person that knows what they’re doing otherwise you’re still going to end up with a mediocre system. But that just my preference as it’s the same for Helix I like their DSP’s and their Q series subs but I don’t like their speakers. Focal I like a few of their speakers and their M series subs but nothing else. Mosconi I like their amplifiers AS, Pro, and Zero lines and nothing else. Zapco AP Amps and nothing else, if their DSP software was better and they got rid of the glitches then those would be great as well. There isn’t one company I would buy everything from.

      @@CarAudioHorizons Oh I have absolutely no doubt your system is amazing. You don't win competitions unless it tip top.
      I did two IASCA competitions, and I won both of them. The judge was super cool and told me where I could score a little better, so I took it back to AMS and the guys tighten up my soundstage. The guys at AMS were the beta testers while JL was creating the 5 mic TunMax, so they've had it for years before the others. They definitely know what they're doing and have been around for like 40 years.
      I plan to compete much more next year and even go to Final as long as it relatively close to WI.
      Keep you the great work Dave. I finally got a Fiio DAP just last week. I
      There was a guy 10 miles away that had a mint condition M11, and he only wanted $150. I think I'm going to use this one until Fiio comes out with something u give your blessing on, or I'llm buy your 17 when you decide to change :).
      Thanks again!!!!!!

      @@andyfeuersthaler3622 I will have to head over to the US and hear your system one day, as I haven’t heard a properly tuned JL Audio System. The one guy that competed here, system just wasn’t up to snuff because of the tune, but I know the shop where he got it done and they don’t have anyone that knows how to tune properly.
      Hopefully next year FiiO will get back on track and bring out better products than what they brought out last year.
      Thats great you enter some competitions as they are always fun and you usually get to hear other people’s vehicles which is always good especially if there is a lot of well tuned vehicles with a different variety of products

    Ever think about reviewing the Joying head units? They have pretty involved tuning capabilities and spdif outputs. Only reason is I’m up in the air about running from iPad straight to dsp. I’ve always tweaked settings on the head unit for different music, not sure I could handle listening to a song and not being able to tweak the sound if needed. It’s not always needed but it’s nice to have the option.

    • @CarAudioHorizons

      I have heard they’re not the greatest for sound quality just like the android displays that are usually cheap. They won’t come close to a DAP for sound quality.
      You’re better off with an IPad or iPhone and a SMSL PO100 Pro straight to your DSP.

    Hi Dave, it's been a while since you posted a video and I've missed you brother, I'm glad all is well with you. Very nice and encouraging words and detailed review as always. You're right most dap don't offer digital outputs and that's sad for the car audio world. Regarding you referring to the Fiio m11s soundwise, yes you are right, it proved that one of our competitors won the European final in Austria this year and he also won best of sound in Sweden he used the older Fiio m11 that you had before so the sound is better in the older M11. Fiio is launching a new dap M23 in November and later next year they plan to launch the Fiio 27 and from what I've heard they are back to new AKM chips. Thanks for a very nice review my dear friend and I enjoyed listening. Take care.🙏🙏💪💪

      Hello! Yes, hopefully FiiO gets back to their old ways and brings out some decent products next year. The original M11 sounded really good when using the coaxial digital output and it was a great price for its time and included the coaxial digital audio adapter which every company seems to be getting away from these days.

    • @high16200
      @high16200 8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Dave, we hope these new upcoming DAPS will bring their quality back to the table but not offering an adapter like the M11 or 11plus is like neglecting the customers and I also hope Fiio continues with digital coax outputs which other brands don't offer.

    • @CarAudioHorizons
      @CarAudioHorizons  7 місяців тому

      The problem with the Hiby R6 Pro 2 is for coaxial digital out you have to use the USB C and Hiby doesn’t include anything with the unit. I was just waiting to see if there are any new DAP’s on the horizon as one of the things I loved about the FiiO M17 as it had a full size dedicated coaxial digital audio output. It’s unfortunate that these are not on all DAP’s. Also it’s not available on Amazon in Canada only the US and then you would have to buy the right cable for digital out and it’s like a month for it to get to me. As there wouldn’t be a point to review it without reviewing that part of it as most people would be interested on how that part of it sounds.
      Will see if Black Friday lowers its price, if so then I would probably buy it.

    check out the Fiio Q15, also you might have gotten a really good tuner that understood how to properly integrate your 2 way setup. The more speakers the more phase and xover issues are likely to happen and the tuner needs to know what they are doing. However its prob that the 3 way setups you heard lacked proper tuning, not because its was tuned with JL 5 or 7 mic set up means its good, still has to have a good person understanding what they are doing. I too often hear many bragging about their gear, not understanding that speaker placement and tuning matter WAY more. That being said when properly tuned and properly placed 3 way setup will provide improvement over a 2 way set up in most cases. Most of it being in the midrange, if you have the GB25 this could be the reason most are surprised also, this is more like a wideband driver that will perform extremely well in a 2 way set up, up there with the Hybrid Audio Legatia L2, maybe better. At this point the only way I think you are going to get a really big difference in your car, is redesigning your entire set up. And still there is no guarantee is going to be for the better, could turn south.The important thing is that you are happy with your system.

    Just want to know something
    In car audio listening are you suppose to feel the music or instruments playing above your head ?

    • @CarAudioHorizons
      @CarAudioHorizons  4 місяці тому

      The music should be on your dashboard and if the vocals are recorded in the center then it should be perfectly center on the dash. The instruments should sound exactly like the real instruments.
      As for feeling the music, yes at louder levels you will definitely feel it as in the bass, mid bass etc..
      I have never heard a song above my head which in my vehicle is the sunroof 😆

      @viveksingla2109 Yes, there is a lot to choose from. I would say hold off as the FiiO M23 comes out next month and I will be doing a review on it.
      If you have a DSP then a DAP is a great source and if you’re just using your phone as a source then the SMSL PO100 Pro is a good option to go coaxial digital or optical into your DSP.

    How can I use a DAC or DAP for car audio if I do not have a 3.5mm aux port? I have a Ford vehicle (2023) that does not have a 3.5mm aux port, so I'm stuck using bluetooth between an iPAD and Ford's Sync 4 system. New to DAC and DAP, and was hoping there is a solution, and any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hello dave, if you dont mind, i would like to get your opinion or advice about my current build. Anything you would change or possible recommendations. Quite a list, so bare with me..
    Ford f450 sound treated all doors roof and floors.
    3 way system front and rear stage.
    Tweeters m25 stereo integrity
    Mids range m3 stereo integrity
    Mid bass b2 ref 8"
    Front is powered by stereo integrity 125.4 to tweeters and mids, while a bridge 125.4 to midbass.
    Front dsp is helix dsp 3, which also controls subwoofer and bass tranducers
    Subwoofer is custom 2 dd 9510 sq build and softparts. The bass tranducer is 2x 300w units. Taramps smart 5k for subwoofer and 800.1 for bass tranducers.
    The rear stage is dsp and amped by audison apf8.9 85w x 4 to tweeters and mid range, while the other 4 channels are bridge to b2 ref 8". The rear stage is just for support and passengers.
    Everything is run through the factory headunit and audio ports. If i were to add one of those dap units you're using po100, would that just go between the source (phone) and headunit (factory 12" unit)?
    Having 2 dsp front and rear has me confused how to use the dap or if i need one at all. For the price i wont hesitate to buy the smsl po100.
    Thanks for your time.

    • @CarAudioHorizons
      @CarAudioHorizons  8 місяців тому +1

      I don’t use the PO100 Pro with a DAP I use it with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. If you’re going to get a DAP I would go straight to your DSP but since you have 2 DSP’s it won’t work unless you had 2 of the Arc Audio DSP’s.
      After looking at your system I think the weak link is having two DSP’s and don’t see the point unless like I said above they were Arc Audio DSP’s and they can link together. If you only needed 12 channels I would have went with the Helix DSP Ultra depending on your budget. If you needed more than 12 channels I would have just went with mids for the rears and run them differential.
      I mean with 12 channels you can do a 3-way up front and differential rear fill, subs at the back and a front sub. I personally don’t see a point in doing anything else to a system as that’s already extreme for most people and if you can’t do the work yourself it will cost thousands.
      That being said for my own system the biggest improvement I could do in my system would be putting my GB60’s in kicks. That would be extremely costly but would make the biggest improvement for sound quality. Speakers in doors always suck compared to kicks or IB but that’s even more money and could void your warranty depending on your vehicle and country you live in.
      I personally wouldn’t buy a DAP this year as there really isn’t anything great that came out and most of the ones that did come out sound worse than the previous models. I would wait and see what 2024 has in store.

  • @T0nyGTSt
    @T0nyGTSt 8 місяців тому +2

    i think this is way overkill for even many home users... it has so many features that you're paying for that you may not use... HDMI i2s is one... AES/EBU digital input is another. You may look at stuff like the M300se or even the DL200 if you must have IEC which would do just a good a job at home. In a car it even makes less sense. SMSL have like maybe 4 DACs that have '400' in the name and its basically paying for stuff you may not need or stuff your home system may not even be able to resolve. SMSL make amazing products but their 'fault' is their low priced stuff is so close to their premium stuff.

    • @CarAudioHorizons

      I agree 100% SMSL lower priced products do a great job for the most part and their SMSL PO100 Pro is a great product for people that want to use their phones with a DSP with optical or coaxial digital inputs.
      We need a custom shop that lets you pick what you want for your audio products like building a PC.
