Because you asked in the video, Nigel ... Yes, I could have such a practice video once a week 😀 I still have the feeling that I will never manage to play really fast. And I don't know exactly how to practise it. Here in this video you have shown that wonderfully. Thank you very much for that! 🙏
Do I like these type of lessons duh YES!! ALL musicians needs to be reeducated on how to play certain note dictations and this is PERFECT for beginner and intermediate sax players as well as other musicians to get better. Thank you Nigel for emphasizing this concept to the daily practice on the saxophone.
Absolutely second the finger positioning tip, my teacher calls me out on that all the time and it's the single biggest thing that improves my speed and smoothness in playing.
I bought my first brand new (cheap) saxophone when I started. I wore it down in 6 months by playing it 6 hours a day. I bought a Selmer after that. I still have it after 30 years. Practice makes perfect. I taught myself but it was pretty much the same what you said.
Nigel, thank you so much for all you do - great tips! I especially appreciate seeing the close up insert screen of finger placement - excellent resource to have as a model!
You make it look so easy. Great lesson on technique and building speed. Currently I cant keep up with your fingering warmup. Look forward to trying this.
A lovely way to spice up Honeysuckle Rose, loved it. I just started studying some jazz after years spent playing classical music in a local band and that one has been my first standard, can't wait to try this line.
Interesting, first five notes sound like Honeysuckle rose. Great video and material to practice, definitely keen for more videos. Thanks for the video!! Big fan of Charlie Parker but even more so of Sonny Stitt and amongst lots of other players.
Great lesson, structured to progress in realistically manageable 'bites'. I always want to start with the end product, which is a recipe for despair! Memo to self: start slowly and keep it that way until thoroughly mastered, then speed up in small steps, just as the man said!
In that particular example I'd like to know if you used any alternate fingerings? Side C? Bis key? Side F#? I think all three of those would help make this passage smoother.
Yes, Nigel, I like specially these types of lessons. As soon as I have watched this video until the end, I will go to practice on it. I have printed it out already. Tempo 100 is not so fast, let´s see at what speed I can play it in a couple of days
@@McGillMusicSaxSchool , Dear Nigel, I have practiced it today for more than an hour already. After a small rest and a drink, half an hour, I will continue with Bird Bounces for one more hour hour, maybe even more. This piece is difficult also.
Thanks. Will try this tomorrow (too late now after band practice but have had a nice time listening to My Old Flame) Yes I like these lessons Any chance you could put the chord symbols on the chart?
I love your technique lessons Nigel and this is no exception. I would say that some of us would need to slow it down to 60-80 BPM initially - I certainly do anyway 😂

Any chance you could put the chord symbols on the chart?
That's a great suggestion Steph. The progression over the 4 bars is just ii, V7 I. So for Alto that's Gm7, C7, F. Tenor: Cm7, F7, Bb. Hope that helps.
@@McGillMusicSaxSchool thanks x
I loved it, thx
Brilliant. Cheers Max.
Yes, very helpful

Hey no problem with going slower Bev. It’s the process that’s important not the speed. Glad you liked this session.
How many weeks will it take for me to be able to play The Flight of the Bumblebee please?😂
Sighting reading problem 😔
👊
