I'm former US Army and had the privilege of spending some time with some of the Kurdish soldiers while deployed to Iraq. They are wonderful people and would be willing to come visit Kurdistan. I was in the Diyala province in the Jalawla area around 20 miles from the Iranian border. So we worked with them at checkpoints.
I have traveled a lot but no place feels as calming n as safe as Erbil. Wonderful people super generous friendly!! Hving lots of other countries as option to move to but I find it hard to leave Kurdistan! Love the people love the place God bless!!
I think you should refer it as Kurdistan rather than Iraq. You are in kurdistan Iraq which is completely different than the rest of Iraq. You are among the kurdish people with their own language and culture. Great video though

Just like in America you can be Chinese American or black American, Arab can be ethnicity or it can be a culture, Kurds have been part of the Arab world for a long time. Kurds and Arabs have been living as brothers for more than a thousand years.
So many of my neighbors are Yazidi Kurdish refugees and they are wonderful neighbors. Very accepting of our Jewish family. More like family than friends. Our children are friends. We get to celebrate all kinds of life cycle events together. And our values/priorities are the same. They really give me motivation to increase my chesed & tzeddekah because they are incredible outstanding role models in those regards.

I am Australian and have travelled several times to Kurdistan (northern Iraq). There is so much to see other than Erbil. Suli and Duhok are beautiful... Did you go to see the Yezidi temple Lalish? the ruins of one of Saddam’s castle with breathtaking views! And visit some of the refugee camps as it lifts their spirits to have visitor from overseas. Kurdish have been very welcoming.. The Yezidis have some practises that remind me of Jewish practises actually...Electricity supply comes and goes..I was told this became bigger problem due to some many IDP and refugee camps in the Kurdistan Region.

My grandmother always had fond memories of their Jewish neighbors when they still lived in Kurdistan/before their aliyah to Israel. Here are some interesting facts relating to Jews and Kurdistan and Kurds and Jews: the first female rabbi in history was presumably a Kurdish Jew (Asenath Barazani), the Prophet Abraham is believed to have been born in Riha/Urfa, a city in Northern-Kurdistan/South-Eastern Turkey (although opinions differ on this; others believe it to be UR in Southern Iraq), Adiabene was a Jewish Kingdom in Kurdistan and Erbil was its capital. Hope you enjoyed your time :).
