Resetting zero on a Mitutoyo dial caliper using the "special " tool.

- I have been meaning to do this video for sometime now having seen people use Mitutoyo calipers with the zero in some really odd places and nobody seems to show how to do it. Please excuse the dirty finger nails, I got them grubby specially for this occasion to give the impression that I actually do do some work now and then.
Its my late grandfather's equipment,he was an engineer.
Saved me buying a new calliper thanks mate!
Incredibly simple and perfect instructions
Dang! That's a great piece of info!! I'll have to check some of my cheap ones to see if they have that feature. I scrapped a unit a couple of years ago for it being off that far and I didn't want to deal with it being off that far. Thanks!!
What a great video,, didn't need to go through a bunch of bs,, straight to the point and well done,, great video..
Hey Chris. Nice and easy fix, thanks for sharing it!
Holy smokes, thank you so much for posting this. All the guys in my shop thank you too!!
I am bad at reading the papers that come with machining tools (Calipers, Mics), and wondered what the little brass rod/pin was for. It worked great. The slot on my 12 inch Mitutoyo Calipers is at the top of the Dial. I got tired of reading it with Zero 180 degrees off position.👍
Thanks. Mine was getting further and further out over the last year! I've just been putting up with it and thinking, "I'll have to sort that at some point."
Dropped mine caliper, as a result I had the 0 at “one o’clock”. I checked the gauge and it was still accurate, so no harm there. Even though everything worked as expected, I found having the 0 offset to the right drove me nuts. Now I can fix it.
Thank you Chris for your video!, Very helpful. It is anoying to read the calipper with the neddle pointing to the wrong direction.
Thank you for this. I've had my Mitutoyo caliper for almost 40 years. I got it when I was studying and to become a machinist. Became a network engineer instead.
Hello Chris, Excellent tip there my friend, thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Tyvm was driving me nuts looking at an upside down dial.
It worked a treat, thanks for sharing.
Elegantly simple Chris - nice! :-)
Thats a neat little trick you've shown us. its such a pain on my other dials to reset it and then mess around trying to eliminate the backlash.
I have the exact same problem! I have a brother who's a machinist, but I keep forgetting to ask him. I'll give it a try. Thanks very much for posting!
Great advice & video Chris. Thanks for sharing
I used the tool differently when a caliper jumped the track. Placing it on zero I would take the tool and insert it in the middle of the the rack under the dial and push it closed. worked every time. no damage was ever reported. (usually Mitutoyos)
