Amazing spotters. Good spotters rarely get enough credit.
They rarely do this good of a job. These guys look like lifters, which is different to most IPF comps I've attended.

@@KwisBwown You can take all the roids in the world and you still won't be able to even unrack his opener dude
There were about 8 dudes trying to rerack that bar. That’s how powerful this ONE guy is. Keep on trucking big guy.
John Smith yeah but those guys are using just using their arms (maybe little bit of legs) to lift up the weight. But regardless, he is strong as fuck.
But he didn’t lock out anything
Dumb Dumb you’ve obviously never seen ray then. This performance was an anomaly
Now alledgedly they are using arms but that's even worse
NC DOZER I haven’t, but the video I did watch he couldn’t do it. He lost.
Could see something was wrong on his first decent, never seen him shake before. Definitely dealing with an injury.
Fatigue. He did 1000+ for 2 reps a few weeks before this.
Pretty sure the fatigue hasn't dissipated.
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. yea it's not because he lost alot of weight. Or his cns is fucked up from squatting 1000lbs for reps weeks before. or because hes fatigued. Its because he didnt eat enough bananas...
Also since you're calling everyone else know it alls and schmucks yet you still give your guesses I'd like to know what med school you graduated from and with what degree.
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. lmao calm down its not like anyone is saying hateful things about him, theyre just guessing what might be the problem... yikes.
altandrew YIKES
Off cycle easy
Really felt Ray's pain during this one but even in defeat he showed the heart of a champion. We're still not completely sure what happened so if anyone has more details feel free to share them.
I wasn't sure if they said in this clip but i thought he dropped a fair bit of bodyweight. So I'm guessing that played a role, perhaps alongside other factors
KOTL will interview his coach and release what happened, i've heard he lost 30lbs bw in the last couple of weeks leading into the comp...
@@oscarkirkeby5289 is any reason for the weight loss? Or will be have to wait for the interview?
I watched his warm ups and second to last (360-370, don't remember) looked just fine. Good depth and about as easy as you would expect. But then the final warm up of 410 was pretty much an RPE 10 and he came up very unevenly. Probably hurt himself there. At that point it was too late to chance the opener.
I mean, i love ray, but drastic weight loss leading to a competition, usually means drug testing and one of the side effects of stopping drugs is immediate weight loss
Genuinely heart breaking to watch 😢 got to meet him in person a few times. Great guy! Keep your head up champ! You’ll be back!
4:17 look at the fear in his face.. definitely something going on behind the scenes
I'm pretty sure hes just hurting he did 1000 for 2 reps a couple weeks ago
He was keeping himself from breaking down under pressure. He held himself really well throughout. He'll be back!
Yeah sure his family was gonna get gunned down if he didn't squat it. Stop watching movies lmao
The Weight owned him that day !

3:34 That would have been gone nuts but spotters did a pretty god job there.

the rack should be fixed into the ground
thats what ive been thinkin about. Like why the racks so trash..
For one reason, the IPF is trying to standardize everything in such a way that they can get into the Olympics, and one thing that's been repeatedly said to them is "why can't they just use the racks we have for the Olympic lifters backstage?". It's bullshit, but if the IOC wants to insist on them using the same equipment provided for the weightlifters training for their own convenience then they'll go with similar racks to appease them. I mean realistically once you get to this kind of weight the only truly safe equipment is a monolift bolted into the floor with woven safety straps.
..and they should be using pins instead of human spotters, but I guess that's not traditional enough lol
I think the racks may tend to bend and warp over time especially with that weight.
Fak Ge if it’s built with good quality metal it won’t bend at all but expensive
keep your head up Ray you're a living legend!
so glad the spotters didn't die, great job from those guys.
nigga need more KFC!
Why would they die haha
@@pepegarcia8268 they were fighting to rerack those heavy ass weights
That brought tears to my eyes. Win, lose, or draw, Ray has the heart of a lion, and is one of the greatest of all times. To see the way he dealt with the disappointment was just as inspiring as watching his successes.
jesus... why isn't the rack bolted down? Could've been some serious injury for anyone there with that sloppy setup.
Lol I know... all these expensive Eleiko weights, and the rack is no more effective than the cheap ones a casual lifter might use.
Because that rack won't stay there?
@@diesertyp7822 Not sure if you're trolling, but if you look from the following link when they all cant get the bar back up on the rack properly it starts tipping. Then big Ray walks away and the normal humans are left with a bar on a rather precarious angle. Then further on from that another camera angle which shows the rack tilting quite a bit. So yes, the rack did not stay in place. If Ray had faltered further and continued his momentum forward there could've been some serious injury. Having it secured to the floor should happen and would mean he has a secure structure to push against when regaining his balance. ua-cam.com/video/Epf59iVhch8/v-deo.html In my opinion anyway.
Fuckin useless set up !!!!
Because its a public venue? Im sure that venue is used for more than just the ocassinal lifting.
He smoked 490 so easily the last time it's unreal to see him struggling with 440.
@potentmale You should try steroids and we will see when you will hit 440kilograms. He is probably dealing with a injury. Steroids don't give you everything
@potentmale It probably is related to steroids, but its naive to think that its just steroids. Personally I don't think you lose 90kg on a squat just because you need to cruise. Almost everyone at the top of powerlifting competing in a tested fed or not would be or has used steroids. You're not special because you're natty lol. Also it does not equal hitting 490kg at 180kg bodyweight, you will never hit a 490kg squat even if you were 490kg bw lol.
@potentmale These guys aren't on steroids...
Zachary Spence lol
@Furkan Özcan squatting 260 at 95 is nowhere near to squatting 490 at 180, I think the world record for a 93kg is about 292kg
Heard he was pretty sick and lost weight, still competed even though he was ill
he better lose some weight ye :P
Finished Outdoors that’s happen to me before. For sick 3 days before a meet and still did it. I only for my opener in squats.
Why would you open so high if you were ill?
Also first competition where he must fly by plane and timeswitch. Not in his homeland.

Ray William's is actually a human? Did not know that till today.
Power lifters dont quit-NEVER!!!Look for a strong comeback-Ray Williams is a warrior!!!
😂
powers lamo why the emoji I have to hear
He looked depleted. Never seen him shake as much as he did that day when he walked out 440 kg. Watched him at the warmup and he had to grind 410 kg. Between the first and second attempt I saw his coach standing and waving a towel infront of him as if he was burning up. I read somewhere on instagram that he had a stomache flu that caused him to drop 15 kg in bodyweight. To be honest, it was fun to see him but watching him struggle was immense and I felt for him. After the meet I saw him sitting outside the arena still sweating. It wasnt even hot outside, maybe 18-19 C and it was raining like crazy. Wish him a speedy recovery and I'm looking forward to watch him next time.
The IPF needs to take lifter safety more seriously. While nothing catastrophic happened with his second / third lift, every single year there is an accident waiting to happen. I 100% put all blame on the organizers and NOT the spotters. The organizers are responsible for securing spotters that are not only experienced enough, but also strong enough to save the lifters in the worst possible moments. There is no reason why they cannot incorporate some form of spotter arms / safety boxes / monolift.
well the guy behind him is robert valach, I think his best is 3rd place in ipf world campionships, i would say he is qualified enough to spot.
@@mariusbabkovic9337 Thank you for that tidbit. Unfortunately, the single back spotter's job is not to bare the entire load, but to assist the lifter when a lift is failed and the lifter can still aid in bringing the bar back to the rack. Clearly, I was referencing the four side spotter's who again, I put no blame on.
They need to design an Automated Spotting Machine ! 6 Spotters is too Awkward ! The weight is getting too much to handle by humans !
125, this is pretty much a bicep curl for him 😅
All i know is that he was 20kg below his bodyweight and it seemed like he had some sort of groin issue after the squats aswell. no clue as to how or why he lost this much weight. i thought i heard one of the casters say he actually lost 10kg in the last week/2weeks or so, idk. atleast he lost 20kg since his last usapl SBD meet.
still the heart of a champion
Ugh Sorry Dude You ain’t Squatting with Groin issues ? Not that kind of weight !

that's why i'm forever bulking. only weaklings cut
Damn really did not see this happen. I'm sad to see how he had to bomb out, but there's no doubt that he'll be back!
I felt for Ray. He will get it next time.

Heart breaking
@Life is Peachy Ray doesn't suck. But I agree that if Eddie, Thor, Z, and Brian focused on powerlifting they would out total Ray comfortably. Especially Eddie he would exceed that by a significant margin.
This hurts
@@vikingofironthor9818 fock off, they are in a drugscycle
Life is Peachy i don’t even think they would pass the drug test
Tianyi Lu Ray also competes in a tested federation. Everyone you listed is undoubtedly on drugs, and Thor has actually confirmed it in an interview.
Should Ray add some distance to his squat attempts?
Example:
900
1000
1100
This guy will always be a legend
😮 3 attempts on that weight is insane. Much respect 👏🏽

They were all a fight It appears !
Full of heart
God bless brother remain strong. You will be back.
It probably wouldn't have helped, but this is why I feel monoliths should be standard
You're not wrong at all. Stumbling with 440kg 3 times and no one getting hurt is absolutely miraculous and is also a shame because now it just shows they don't need a monolith.
Monolifts are way more dangerous
@@Nimbusz how?
@@skebo514 put "Chris Duffin Squat fail" un UA-cam.. and see
@@Nimbusz I've seen it before. Ive just always felt better lifting out of a mono the walkout is the most dangerous part of the squat.

It's not over! Everyone falls we just gotta get back up! ✊🏾🙌🏾
The second spotter from left at 4:50 did a great job at stopping the rack to flip over.
he was very off. but he will be back
This is so hard for me to watch! I am not use to see Big Ray like this! Keep yo head up big man 💪🏼
Strongaholic He must have been injured. I’ve never seen him quake like that. So much fight though...not one completed squat and he STILL looked strong.
Shit Happens !
We love you Ray you are still a beast man!
Wasn’t impressive to bomb out !
If I could choose one video that depicts what does "a heart of a champion" means, this would be the one. Such a beast and a fighter, untill the end, and then sport spirit shown on his bench and deadlift attempts so that his heavyweight companions have another minute to rest between attempts
Hope he recovers fast, but wtf, the bar wasn't even equally aligned both ends of the rack during 2:05
some people like it like that
Sag on the bar will make it angle inwards
Can someone explain to me why they don’t use safety bars when squatting that much weight? I can’t tell you how many time I’ve seen those “spotters” damn near kill the squatter because they can’t handle that weight.
The two big reasons I could think of 1. it makes it harder to judge depth and 2. with big squatters like Ray having their hands all the way to the plates, there's not really anywhere to safely put the safety bars. Bad spotters always suck though
Seth Richardson because safety bar squats are not genuine squats
Robert Vega... please explain to me how two bars at the bottom of a squat rack which are designed to stop a bar loaded with weights from crushing and or seriously injuring you taking away from a squat? Like in no way shape or form does it interfere with a squat or take away from it. To suggest that is truly ridiculous.
Seth Richardson lolllllll my bad I read that as the safety bar squat
For people wondering, Ray dropped nearly 20 pounds from when he left the US to when he arrived in Sweden. He said it had to do with a poor diet choice. He competes at around 415 to 420lbs (190kg) and here he was somewhere below 400. He said this mixed with him not communicating this to his coaches and getting too fixed on a certain number to open with caused him to bomb out.
That’s Stupid ! He could have really Hurt Someone Mainly himself !
Spotters on point! Good job guys! 👌
It was Careless ! Need a Automated Spotters Now ! The weights are getting to dangerous for Ordinary Humans to try and hold !
Ray's best is 490 could he potentially hit 500
Could be as simple as his immune system fighting a virus or maybe his age is catching up with him and he needs to reduce his volume to recover more before the event.
Yeah he probably felt fine to. We've all been there, feel like Hercules but your nervous system is just too overwhelmed.
ALL GOOD BIG GUY. REST UP, AND HIT IT HARD AGAIN.
I'm a bit emotional. My squats have been feeling off lately, and this is a reminder, bad days happen to everyone. To watch a man like Ray struggle is to be reminded that all humans have limits.
When did Powerlifters Become Women ! Emotions Some Dude above Cried ! WTF ?
This is why the IPF blows, why the hell would you not have a monolift to prevent the bar dropping.
I was just thinking the same thing, dudes are dealing with 900+ pounds and their using squat stands???
With that kind of weight there's a significant risk of hyperextending a knee just walking it back.
Monolift is so much safer in so many ways. And way easier to adjust height for different lifters.
If you don't like ipf you can have your stupid us circus orgs
If you cant walk back the weight you prolly cant squat it to depth either
@@JP-wk7cc the funny thing is, they have 5 spotters, like what the actual f*ck can they do when he drops it, they are essentially useless even for squatters who squat 600lb
