      I watched his warm ups and second to last (360-370, don't remember) looked just fine. Good depth and about as easy as you would expect. But then the final warm up of 410 was pretty much an RPE 10 and he came up very unevenly. Probably hurt himself there. At that point it was too late to chance the opener.

      For one reason, the IPF is trying to standardize everything in such a way that they can get into the Olympics, and one thing that's been repeatedly said to them is "why can't they just use the racks we have for the Olympic lifters backstage?". It's bullshit, but if the IOC wants to insist on them using the same equipment provided for the weightlifters training for their own convenience then they'll go with similar racks to appease them. I mean realistically once you get to this kind of weight the only truly safe equipment is a monolift bolted into the floor with woven safety straps.

      @Tharanicus 5 років тому +5

      @@diesertyp7822 Not sure if you're trolling, but if you look from the following link when they all cant get the bar back up on the rack properly it starts tipping. Then big Ray walks away and the normal humans are left with a bar on a rather precarious angle. Then further on from that another camera angle which shows the rack tilting quite a bit. So yes, the rack did not stay in place. If Ray had faltered further and continued his momentum forward there could've been some serious injury. Having it secured to the floor should happen and would mean he has a secure structure to push against when regaining his balance. ua-cam.com/video/Epf59iVhch8/v-deo.html In my opinion anyway.

Almost everyone at the top of powerlifting competing in a tested fed or not would be or has used steroids. You're not special because you're natty lol. He looked depleted. Never seen him shake as much as he did that day when he walked out 440 kg. Watched him at the warmup and he had to grind 410 kg. Between the first and second attempt I saw his coach standing and waving a towel infront of him as if he was burning up. I read somewhere on instagram that he had a stomache flu that caused him to drop 15 kg in bodyweight. To be honest, it was fun to see him but watching him struggle was immense and I felt for him. After the meet I saw him sitting outside the arena still sweating. It wasnt even hot outside, maybe 18-19 C and it was raining like crazy. Wish him a speedy recovery and I'm looking forward to watch him next time.

    The IPF needs to take lifter safety more seriously. While nothing catastrophic happened with his second / third lift, every single year there is an accident waiting to happen. I 100% put all blame on the organizers and NOT the spotters. The organizers are responsible for securing spotters that are not only experienced enough, but also strong enough to save the lifters in the worst possible moments. There is no reason why they cannot incorporate some form of spotter arms / safety boxes / monolift.

      @@mariusbabkovic9337 Thank you for that tidbit. Unfortunately, the single back spotter's job is not to bare the entire load, but to assist the lifter when a lift is failed and the lifter can still aid in bringing the bar back to the rack. Clearly, I was referencing the four side spotter's who again, I put no blame on.

      The two big reasons I could think of 1. it makes it harder to judge depth and 2. with big squatters like Ray having their hands all the way to the plates, there's not really anywhere to safely put the safety bars. Bad spotters always suck though

    For people wondering, Ray dropped nearly 20 pounds from when he left the US to when he arrived in Sweden. He said it had to do with a poor diet choice. He competes at around 415 to 420lbs (190kg) and here he was somewhere below 400. He said this mixed with him not communicating this to his coaches and getting too fixed on a certain number to open with caused him to bomb out.
