Thanks so much for posting this. Fixed our issue of our glass sliding door getting stuck when closing and didn’t think of raising the casters. These Andersen doors are quite old and in 21 years of using them, we never had any problems until recently.
We have an Andersen a-series gliding patio door installed in the Spring of 2024. We had complained to the installers that it was difficult to open and close, they looked it over and added silicone lube to the rollers. It wasn't much better until I added a high quality silicone dry lube, that helped more... but after watching a couple of videos, including yours, I question if the rollers need adjusting down or up. How would I know which was to adjust them to all the door to move more freely?
I like your video. Thanks. I am looking for how to tighten the lock-unlock latch. It wiggles from side-to-side and I'd like to get it fixed before the snow comes
Thanks for the info. Do you have any opinion about putting a strip of felt or some other thin insulation strip on the underside of the door for better insulation in the winter?
Depends on the door type, some manufacturers have a mohair gasket that can be reinserted if the vent is removed, some have a bulb type gasket. Sounds like it could be worn/ flattened from usage. Best bet is to snap some pics or video and visit the supplier to see if they have some available, and instructions on how to replace it.
We are having a ton of issues with our patio door in our condo that was installed by starline windows. The door was originally leaking and was repaired numerous times until it was finally fully deconstructed and reseated the area. After the fox it never really slid well partly because the tracks are on the outside and so hard to keep clean. Now take a better look and it’s not even on tue track. Super disappointed after all the work that was done to this door
yes, both silicon or oil based spray lubricants will work, however they leave an oily residue and scent, whereas the wax style sprays do not, and also leave a nice lemon or other scent.
Thanks for taking time to post. My buddy has a SGD vent panel that can't be lifted out of the track (even with wheels all the way retracted. Any clue how we might get it out of there so we can replace the 29 year old wheels? I've never seen a vent panel I couldn't remove before. :-/
Chris that can definitely occur on older homes after settling with force onto the header or a bow in the floor. Aside from using flat bars on the bottom, a trick we often use is to cut a 2x4 at the inside dimension of your sliding glass door frame opening maybe up to 1/2" longer and starting from the jamb sides and slide it towards the center. This should expand the inside opening without causing too much strain. Even just a bit can allow the vent to come out so you can change out the wheels. Once reinstalled it would be a good time to refasten the door frame so it holds true. Hope this helps.
Difficult to say without knowing the product, but a heavier duty door could be a Lift and Slide instead of a typical slider, but Pledge would work on most friction points. Just like waxing ski's or a snowboard.
Robinson is the original name for Phillips head screw, but they had a slightly different design. Same cross pattern though. There is a really cool story behind it that you can find on youtube as well if you are a tool buff/ mechanic, etc.
Why do your windows let water come inside my home? I thought windows were meant to have ingress protection? I've never had to maintain window frames like this before
without seeing photos or the door it sounds like the door vents have not been adjusted after installation. Possibly minor adjustments of the vent rollers are needed which is on another video or quite possibly the door was installed out of square. If you still cannot adjust it, you can contact our local service department for assistance. They will be able to advise you of the estimated service charge to send out a technician, and they will do their best to close the gap.
I am no expert on other manufacturers products, but some have adjustment screws on the end where we have or just inward on the interior face of the patio vents on the bottom of the style just above the door sill. Most patio rollers are adjustable and have an access adjustment screw. Maybe search your suppliers website for instructions. Hope this helps.
Throw the damn door out and install energy efficient French doors . Due to the rolling feature of the door it’s very energy inefficient even if it’s new. Throw it out you won’t be disappointed you did!
Hi Kim it would depend very much on the condition of the track and the material it was made of. If it slightly bent upwards it may just have jumped out a bit, and may need to be snapped back in. A flathead screwdriver and some soft taps with a hammer usually does the trick. If it is more than that, my suggestion would be to take a short video and or pics of it, and show the manufacturer of the patio door. Most track replacements are quite easy to do once you remove the sliding panel. Hope this helps!
I think you might have broken the world record for most times saying “actually” in a UA-cam video 😃. Thanks for the video! Lots of helpful info in there. 👍🏼
Line it up with the jamb. Leave a small gap between the slider and the jamb. You should be able to see the same gap from top to bottom. A level doesn't matter if the jamb isn't plumb. If the jamb is off, the slider should match.
I’m seeing how to lube my slider. The previous video I watched said if lube doesn’t help, the problem may be the wheels which probably requires a maintenance fellow to come “fix” the wheels. So I’m just saying, maybe your issue is the wheels. Dunno but I’m not using Pledge Thats for sure. What a build up mess that seems.
thats cuz this one has been inside its whole life and never seen dust or dirt to begin with then you got mr clean over here who does god who knows how many demonstrations on how to pledge the tracks too get it to roll smoothly. Excoet it only works that good in there because as i said it doesnt ever see any dirt. Try that shit outside where dust and dirt blows around when people walk over they drop a litlle bit of sand or dirt off their shoes. Before you know it youll have lemon scented mud clods in your track. This is not a prime example to follow I dont think
a lack of close-up shots puts a slight "dent" in understanding the vid a bit harder, for amateurs (like me) n not wearing protective gear (goggles) when operating an electric tool is a cry of safety risks.
So genuine on the "call if you have questions" part, i almost made a note of it on todays to-dos 🤦♂️
Thank you for the quick easy video, you saved me a lot of stress. So many people make a 20 minute video when it can be shown in three minutes.

i loved this, rather than immediately telling us to buy a new slider. thanks

Your post was extremely helpful. A very old and heavy door was much better after using your suggetions.
Great feedback and tips to try. The furniture wax was a new one to me. Great Video!
Thanks for this. I never thought about pledge.
If possible, use an air compressor with a narrow tip. Blow out all the dust and dirt. This will help with a good seal both summer and winter.
I like your video. Thanks. I am looking for how to tighten the lock-unlock latch. It wiggles from side-to-side and I'd like to get it fixed before the snow comes
Without seeing it would be difficult to know for sure, but there should be some fasteners that may just need to be tightened.

Great, thank you! I'm going to take it off the rail and check it out tomorrow and will go from there 👍
Thank you for that information! You explained it perfectly well 😊
Should the track be sliding on the floor?
Thank you Starline window guy👍.
Is that an impact door? Like hurrican impact door?
What is a top pocket?
Great news I thought I could use petroleum jelly tried it didn't work as well as your suggestion, Thanks. 08/2023.

Wow. Worked better than WD-40 by a ton. Thanks.
WD-40 is not a lubricant
Thanks for sharing your tips!
63 years old not a professional machanic but worked on American cars and Harley’s for 40 years wth is a Robertson screw driver?
its a canadian invention superior to slot and phillips heada. because of royalty rights, it has not been marketed well outside canada.

Hard to believe I never heard of it. If I run across one can I buy one in USA ?

Thank you. Instead of pledge, can i use WD40?
yes, both silicon or oil based spray lubricants will work, however they leave an oily residue and scent, whereas the wax style sprays do not, and also leave a nice lemon or other scent.
No to the wd40. Yes to silicone lubricant.
Thank you, worked great!
Thank You!
Since when are strike plates adjustable after they've been installed. Only 2 of the 4 screws have slots!
Once a door is installed and set up properly, the 2 strike plate holes that are fixed are for 3" security fasteners.
Un gros merci champion !!!
Not loud enough. Lack of close ups so one can see what you are doing.

But how to fix if the wheel isn't in the track
We live Ocean front and the doors are FAR more heavy duty that the one in this video… does this same information apply to Hurricane rated doors?

Needed close ups of what you were doing.
Best explanation.
What type of screw are you using? Did I hear you say a Robinson screw?
Robertson screw, square design. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robertson_screw
Robinson is the original name for Phillips head screw, but they had a slightly different design. Same cross pattern though. There is a really cool story behind it that you can find on youtube as well if you are a tool buff/ mechanic, etc.

@@kari8248 no, we've been told by the developer who installed them that this is how they are designed and meant to work. Very strange...

Bend it back in shape with pliers.

why does it give them work?
I think you might have broken the world record for most times saying “actually” in a UA-cam video 😃. Thanks for the video! Lots of helpful info in there. 👍🏼
