How to do Chaturanga Dandasana

- The word ‘Chaturanga Dandasana’ is comes from Sanskrit, in which the meaning of Chatur is “four”, Anga means “limbs”, danda means “staff” and meaning of Asana is seat, pose or posture. In this pose our both hands and both legs are used so that’s why this is called four- limbed staff pose and also known as low plank pose.
Chaturanga strengthens and tones the wrists, arms, abdominal muscles, and lower back. It prepares the body for more challenging arm balances. Similar to a traditional push-up, it also strengthens the muscles surrounding the spine, which helps to improve posture.

Thank you for this. I was a yoga instructor - years ago - and we always went into chaturanga from down dog, whilst doing sun salutations. At they gym I go to, an instructor calls this pose yoga plank - and then always says Pam, what is the word again, and I tell her chaturanga dandasana, but she teaches to do it from the floor up, something I have never seen. Many people can't do it, or struggle mightily (myself included). I had a debilitating health issue last year and will practice your modified pose on knees and coming halfway down to gain strength back . Thanks!!
This is the best chaturanga tutorial I've ever seen - everybody with weak ass arms like mine - start there!

I completely agree that knees, chest and chin is not a good preparation for chaturanga
I always thought knees/chest/chin was called something else. I need to pull out my yoga books.
keerthana is best

She has a Huge hyperextension in the elbows, have a soft bend in the elbows my friends, protect your joints :)
Thank you so much for mention it! I noticed it too. I took my 200 hr teacher training last year and I’m more aware of this as I hyperextend as well.
What are you doing? this is not Chaturanga D.----- Crocodiles do not remain static! they jump forward and they even jump backward- You left out the Jumps, why?????
