Beats, Bars, and Chords along with this video have simplified counting music for me, something I've been struggling for figure out for a very long time. Thanks for the video. I'll be watching more
You are the only one i have found that even has a clue!!!!!! i would like to see you take it deeper like how to literally count to change any song into any genre.
A good motivational trick is to lay something you want (like supper) where it tantalized you but make yourself do the job before you can have it. Your prize will be more enjoyable if you succeed, and will be slightly ruined if you fail to follow through.
I just started drumming with no music background or knowledge. This is the best I've seen this broken down for a beginner. Thank you for posting it has helped me greatly in figuring out finding the beat to music!
Do you have any tips for how to drum with the guitar? My friends will play their guitars, no bass guitar and I struggle with playing to their guitar rifts unless I use a metronome. thanks!
Omnirex how do you counting reggae beats cause I'm tryina work on this reggae beats an when I got it like you said 1234 it's not added up cause I kno the hooks is 4 to 8 bars verses are 16 but ever reggae beat I listen does not flow like that
You are doing one of the best tutorial in UA-cam I'm for sure. This is what every song's lover or musician needs to know though this is so basic . Gotta starts form basic .thanks again .
thanks so much for your counting music videos..I am teaching DJing lessons and I found that you communicate it so much better than I could..so I'm showing a clip of you to the students here on the reserve and then we'll just practice doing counts and see why that's important to mixing and transitions!
Salsa and Bachata are slightly different than normal western songs. They don't follow 4x4 structure from beginning to end of song. So be careful when mixing these songs unless you are planning to mix with outro of one song to intro of another.
Thanks for this video. I've heard some DJs who say to actually focus on the snare which I've never understood why, as I've found it difficult. The hint to keep track of the snare on the 'and' count inbetween the beats was great. Keep up the awesome work dude.
Crystal clear for those starting out.. The problem I mostly have as a DJ Friday nights in a cocktail lounge, playing a 4hr set I vary genres.. Balearic/Funk/ Rnb/Chart thru the gears into deep/melodic /beach house/ dance etc. I understand on depending on the overall collective mood which genre to play at certain times.. I would like others advice on how u deal with awkward customers that don't understand the DJs job. Fire out request after request, some work...some don't, some are impossible as the mood wud die in a second..it's trying to explain to certain customers that's the problem I have. The walk ins if that sounds familiar.
***** Those situations can be rough. Your job is already hard enough with all the different genres and vibes so those customers can be horrible! I've seen some very good suggestions in the comment section of my request video so you should check that out for sure! ua-cam.com/video/lHbA9gTh60A/v-deo.html
thanks for your videos,I am learning to DJ and your your videos are helping alot.concerning counting music if you could show me how to count roots reggae,it would be great.Big up!
TheTechnoTuber Contact a promoter/club in your area about artists you like. If enough people request someone he'll get booked. For the artist himself it's almost impossible to know how popular he/she is in said area and if he is able to at least earn his costs back with said gig. So in short, contact the club.
Hello DjTlm, First I would like to thank you for the videos of "Beats, bars and phrases", "how to find the one count" and the ones for counting the different music, I am a Hip Hop dancer who didn't study music and I found them very useful. Could you please explain me the differences between Hip Hop, trap and lite feet music? Again thanks for giving this opportunity to all of us, sharing your knowledge to us.
You have inspired me to become a dj with all your videos I found your channel a while ago and now im buying my first mixtrack pro 3 controler. But I would like to know if counting electro is the same as this
I was dropping it on the one quite badly! But the audience liked my song choices, just want to make it more bearable for people :P Can you cover how to drop it on the one for songs without intros? THANKS!
so just started watching you think your really informative and its great, thank you. just wanted to ask, if you could make a video of different genres and make it like like a test to get batter at counting is'ts easy to count with you, but it always starts at the end or beginning so its kind of easy but, lest loose the training wheels! and for like 15 seconds or what ever you see fit just longer better it would be i think. lets find the 1,2,3,4 in the middle of like 2,3 with out you counting then start it again with you counting to see if we/I got it right(like a test) and then increase the beat intensity/ change genres what ever to make it hard to get better would really appreciate it. could do it on my own but wouldn't really know if i was right or wrong
***** They got some free promo right there ;) I forgot to take the boxes out of the shot. But yeah, love those bars too. Great flavors and the macros are on point
Hi djtlm, mine is a question that am mainly concerned about.i want to move from cdj to turntable and really ready to do so but i just want to know something before i do the switch, what is the main, main diference between deejaying/scratching on a cdj and turn table?if you already did a video about it,please paste the link DjMaya, malawi
Dear DJ TLM I was wondering if u could do a more advance scratching tutorial cause I just got my controller but I have been using virtual DJ for about 2 weeks and I love scratching it is just so much fun but all I know is what u taught me please make a advance scratching tutorial
Chris Shell You've been scratching for two weeks and you can do all the scratches I showed in my tutorials? That's very impressive. More tuts are coming
Much thanks for the all vids. For something different, it would be cool to hear how you handle beat counts in Salsa. Although its 4/4, I find it a lot more challenging and often get lost in it.
I think I did a video that handles that subject and a lot of people jumped in the comment section to share their techniques. I hardly play salsa so my knowledge is very limited. try to search for salsa on my video page
Hey DJ TLM, thank you so much for the awesome counting video :) Quick question to you: Why would you recommend to count 4/4 vs 8 beats? djTLMtv What do you think about the Numark NS7III? Do you feel it was smart to have basically the same controller just with added screens? Have you heard if there was a difference in the performance or not?
Tirahn Thorpe I think it's great that they also made it an option to buy the screens for the NS7II. Otherwise there would have been a lot of angry NS7II owners ;) Performance wise I don't think there's much difference. I haven't heard anything about that.

Hey dj. I am new to this dj thing, I am gospel dj and i play gospel reggae, however, all the gospel artist they all sing on different riddim. Can you please teach me a thing or two with mixing two different riddims or beats together. I have ddj-sr. Thanks Dj kchype.
With playing different riddims you have to match the bpm ( beats per minute ). Reggae is usually 85-100. So if you are playing a song that is 90 bom and
With playing different riddims you have to match the songs bpm's reggae is usually between 85-100. So if you are playing a song at 90 bpm you can select another one that is in the +-5 range (85-95) and use your pitch to adjust the bpm's or use your sync button carefully to match the bpm. Now you can start counting the bars in the riddim.
The numbers behind your head in the last video was a big help! Ps. anyway you can show me some examples of something besides a 4 even though its uncommon? Im intrigued
Look up waltz here on UA-cam. Waltz music has a 3/4 time signature in stead of the 4/4 time signature. You count Waltz music 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, etc
You could, but it doesn’t sound like a good idea. Not every song uses the same amount of hi hats per beat. I've just watched your previous video on counting beats, and then come straight here. You are a Godsend. I play the clarinet, but have struggled so much with certain aspects. The two videos I've seen of yours so far have given me so much more insight and confidence. Thank you! And I'm gonna be looking out for more of your work. Peace ✌
Rói Hjaltalin I honestly don't know why it is the standard, but it is the most used time signature (even called common time because it's so common to use 4/4). It must have been the most comfortable time signature to work with for most people. I have some tracks that have a 3/4 time signature (waltz style) and I played with different time signature tracks at home, but not during my normal sets. It is fun to experiment though
