    Congratulations! I always wanted a JX-8P. A MKS-70 is even better! Merry Christmas!

      I have a sweet spot for the JX series synths as it can create a wide range of sound by its own synthesis without relying on sampled waveforms. Plus being analog, it creates very unique sounding metallic tones, that is different to the DX7. It's all about respecting those synths with their own unique characters!!!

      I've been looking for it fo a while and I just happened to find it when it was just posted on eBay recently. It's an Australian model from an Australian seller, so there is no need for me to buy a transformer. I grabbed it as quickly as possible. I really want to get into programming next year. I will get an iPad programmer, as I don't have a hardware version. I'm really looking forward to it.

      Always worth being patient ... till getting the right expected one !
      For sure you'll get addicted to its analog sound ... digitally controlled.. even without programmer, you'll have no problem creating sounds, being used to the DX7 ! ;-))

    I don't know why considering what you have, but I was thinking that it would be a Casio VZ synth! Like FM but harsher, as they say?
    Then when I saw Roland, I thought you were getting a JV. MKS-70 though, good stuff!

    • @jackcimino8822
      @jackcimino8822 6 років тому

      The JV did not come out in 1986. Didn't you pay attention?

      I can't into release dates

    • @powerdx7383

      Some suggested to get Casio VZ, but when I played it back in 1987, as an alternative to the DX7, I wasn't that impressed with its factory presets. I played Roland D-50 which was a way cooler!!! For me the complexity of FM synthesis with the DX7 is enough. I can spend a lot of time learning about the VZ synths, but I don't need another DX7-like synth. The Super JX is analog and with its X-mod and oscillator sync, you can create some unique analog FM sounds, and that's what really impresses me. Plus when I saw the Super JX in a Roland catalogue back in 1986 (pity that I didn't keep it!!), I thought it looked really cool (something from a sci-fi movie!) and loved its colour!!!

    Damn, I guessed MKS-80, so close

      Thanks Bradley, it would be too expensive and I don't remember seeing that in a Roland catalogue back in 1986. I was so fascinated with the Super JX, JX-10!! ! think it was to do with a larger keyboard and 12 polyphony that sold me, plus its cool looking colour!!!!

    Enjoy had a jx 8p for a few years had a lovely sound and a perfect companion for the dx! Speaking of which have you ever found a fix for the plastic membrane over the buttons splitting, mine is getting quite bad and I am interested in others thoughts or experiences.

    • @powerdx7383
      @powerdx7383  6 років тому

      Thanks. I owned the JX-8P briefly as well, but I like the JX-10 or Super JX better. It's sound seems to be cleaner at higher notes. Plus you get 12 polyphony! I love its analog FM (x-mod and oscillator sync). In regards to the DX7 membrane, I'm not sure what I can do with that. Some of buttons don't work properly either, as I have been pressing them for thousands of times over 30 years. If there are spare parts, I would love to get them.

      Power DX7 there is someone in Australia selling a few parts on eBay including the board with the front panel buttons. But from what I have read the actual micr switches Yamaha used are still made and can readily be brought new, if your good with a soldering iron. I am hoping that soon Yamaha will release a synth which is based on the fmx engine found on their big synths. Good luck with the buttons.

      Thanks for the info. I will need to look into that to get spare parts for my DX7 MK1.

      No, I got it from an Australian seller and it was much cheaper than that, plus with a 10% discount for Black Friday!!! I live in Australia so I didn't want to get it form America or Japan as I had to get a transformer for the unit. Having 12 polyphony is really great too!!!
