- Part 5 of the Zoom L12 tutorial series. In this video you get to meet me face to face! ;0) I will go over some of the questions that I have been regarding recording tracks with EQ, effects, and go over the "Scenes" function for this board.
I will also speak about what comes next in this series.
Please remember to subscribe, explore and share our music!
Come back often!
Thank you for listening!
This is the best tutorial series I've ever seen!
Thank You! You are too kind! Let me know if there is anything else I can do for my next video. I am enjoying doing the tutorials, I will do more. Don't forget to check out our music also! We have them organized by playlists. Thanks again, keep in touch!
Thank you for all the tutorials. I purchased the L8. All your info translates well to that device. Your approach is practical and hands on. I could grasp the concept of how our devices work. We'll done.
Thanks for watching! Check out the music on our channel and Subscribe!
Our percussionist in NY has the L8 and she is very happy with it.
More coming soon!
Best tutorial on the Web
@@MrDejanPesic Thank you for watching! Check out our music playlists! More tutorials on the way.
Your videos are the best across the UA-cam for Zoom L 12 lessons. I am watching them all, now finally i know how to to use it.
Please continue, i can’t wait to see your next video on using the DAW, I have mixcraft 10 , I couldn’t make it work with the Zoom L12 interphase though i see it there on Mixcraft, it won’t connect, I am sure it’s me missing something, i want also to use the free one you said , will know what it is on your next video I hope.
I also have Studio one , it connects but difficult to use for me.
Thank you so much , you are the best 🌹
Thank you for your kind words! I have been busy with some music projects that have delayed my next tutorials. I will be touching on the components needed to go next level with the L12 as an audio interface. The computer needs, and the software needed for recording. I hope to start on this soon. I hope you get many happy hours of recording on your L12. Let me know if you post anything on your channel, I will check it out!
Thanks for taking the time to create these incredible introduction videos for the Zoom L-12! The beginning steps are the main part of getting folks started, from there we'll figure things out. Zoom should pay you for your work, in my opinion, because their videos aren't very helpful. When it comes down to it, there are essentially three main audiences: bands looking to record & mix, songwriters who need to know how to record, mix & edit as we create and podcasters. Without basic videos on getting started, manual reading kills our creative joy.
We appreciate you!! And I like your music, too! Thank you for all you do!
Thank you Keith for your kind comments! I love making and recording music, and I understand how difficult it is to get started with new technology. My main focus is making music and hope that people listen and enjoy. But along the way I got into these tutorials and I plan to make a series of how I make our music from the very beginning to the finish product. If you have anything you would like me to address on the next video, just let me know.
Again thanks for listening and keep coming back new music every month!
Hi. Good description of the board. I have a question: Is there any way to delete scenes saved and start from scratch? Thank you.
Luis, you can overwrite any scene even if it already contains a scene. So just select "save" then pick any scene even if it's not blinking. I will add the new scene to that slot. You can erase all saved screens at the same time by pressing "scene", then press "reset" on the menu the choice "recall " will appear, press the select button and all the scenes will be erased. Hope this helps.
Also delete tracks instead of overwriting them which I’m not saying it’s stops the problem I’ve had and many others, when you record over a track again and again to get it right you were going to get a little flutter not a complete signal almost as if you’re using celluloid but of course you’re not so maybe deleting it would help that’s why you always get the biggest gigabyte 64 is enough but I got 128
Yo Cane!b Could you do an in depth video on how the headphone mixes and mix minus as well as How to reroute to use multiple Mics in OBS?
@@poeticgeenetikstv1000 will work on it! Keep you posted! Thanks for listening!
Totally enjoyed all 5 tutorials. Very understandable! I'm looking forward to seeing how you use the L-12 as an audio interface with your DAW. I'm learning Reaper now. How does it compare to Bandlabs Cakewalk? Also, for recording electric drums, would you recommend going straight into the DAW for better VSTs? Or just use the default module from Roland and capture the audio through L-12? (It would be nice if the L-12 had MIDI inputs.) Thanks again for all the great work!!!
That’s great! I have one question: regarding the scenes, does it also save the headphone monitors levels? Or only the faders, effects, equalization levels? Thanks a lot for all videos. It helped me a lot.
Rodrigo, the scenes cannot save the individual headphone balance or level. Those volumes control are not digital so you have to work with them each time. I will save the headphone mix and EQ and effects. Thanks for watching!
Raul, another great vid on the zoom board! I have the l20 and I noticed a section in the manual about marking. Is this function so you can overdub a section of a track instead of the entire track? I’m not sure how this works any info is helpful. Thanks
Frank, the marks make it easier to go to certain sections faster. You can also use if you are going to punch in and overdub a part after the start. Just put a mark on it and go there when ready. Its saves time looking for the section.
Hello ! your tutorial is really informative, i do have a question though? can you record in usb with the fx and EQ with at the same time record on computer even without EQ and fx? thank you
Thanks for watching! The FX and EQ are mainly for monitoring. When you record to a DAW using the board, you can hear the FX and EQ on your monitors, but it will not record to the DAW or to the SD Card.
The only time you can record the effects, is when you mix down to the Master track on the board. This mix will include any effects or EQ on the board. It will give you a stereo mix with effects.
I am working on a new video where I show in detail how I recorded one of the songs that I have on the channel. There I will be recording to the board as well as to the DAW and bringing together tracks recorded remotely. I hope you tune in.
Should be out soon!
thank you so much for the reply and info, i will definitely wait for that recording video. i really wish that i could record the fx and eq together with the recoding. this is the only thing that keeps me from buying it. would be nice if it can record to the maste mix as you said with the effects and EQ plus record in a DAW clean both the same time. is that possible? thank you
@@chachie6347 It is possible to record with effects to the master mix and also to the DAW and to the SD Card with no effects. If you have a DAW, it is better to record without the effects on the board. You can get plugins with your DAW that have better quality than the ones that come with the board. Also you can change the effects as much as you like when you add in the DAW. If you record directly with effects , then you are stuck with the effects even if you change your mind later.
Hope you find the right recorder for you!
Can you do a presentation on, or include in your next project details related to using Cakewalk with the L-12 and cover the settings on both devices to ensure a smooth set-up of the DAW / Mixer combination?
Yes, that is my plan. I have to put it together. I have been using that combination for a few years now, and it works very well. I should have something soon.
@@sugarcanerush Thank you!
Thanks for the video. My singers usually complain of a delay of their voice while singing. I am using zoom live track l-12 as an audio interface with fl studio. Could you please help me solve this problem?
The first thing I can think of is making sure the zoom driver is installed properly in your recording software. A driver that is not installed right can give you "latency" which is a delay in the signal being recorded. The best driver I have found is the ASIO driver and you have to run a check in the software to get to the best latency number. I am not familiar with your software so I can't help much more than that. Maybe you can tell me more about the way you are recording the vocal and how you have the board installed as an interface.
Hi there, I meant to ask, do you use an extra mic pre amp for your vocalists? I noticed that mine has some noise when I boost the gain
I don't get noise on mine, what kind of microphone are you using? Some mics require a preamp boost. Let me know the brand and model. I'll see what I can find.
@@sugarcanerush Its the Shure SM58
@@kwandonald That is a decent mic and shouldn't give you noise. Have you tried other mics? Have you tried replacing the mic cable? Also have you tried switching channels? Make sure the "pad" button is not pressed. Keep the gain high but not reaching the red. Can't think of anything else, hope this helps.
How can i delete a scene?Reset dont work.
I have not found a way to delete just one scene. What I do is if I need that scene, I just overwrite it with a new one. I'll look around to see if anyone has figured this out. Thanks for watching!
@@sugarcanerush thank you sir.
Question- My board saves the scenes, when I power down and restart, only scene 1 is available for recall. Any ideas?
Not sure but try pressing "recall" and see if all your scenes light up. Press "save" to see how many scenes you have available. Try saving another scene and then press "recall" to see if it's available. Also switch the scene switch off to see if they all go off. Try that and let me know it it helps.
@@sugarcanerush thanks a lot for the response. None of that worked. It’s strange because it functions the way it should and does show that it saved, is available for recall until I turn my power conditioner off that controls the power to the board. Is there some correct power down process I am missing to get it to permanently save?
@@cjg4000 Are you saying that when you hit "on" and then hit "recall" that only one scene is lit? Is it always the same? When you hit "recall" only one scene blinks?
Try alwasys turning the board off before turning off the power supply. Other than that I can't think of anything else. Do you have an SD card installed? Not sure if the board saves the scenes internally or to the SD card.
@@sugarcanerush Yes! I can save scenes and it all works as you say it should until I power off the board. If I power it off with 3 scenes being able to be recalled prior, when I power it back on, only scene 1 shows as being able to be recalled.
@@sugarcanerush it is always the same
I have saved 5 scenes before. They all save and can be recalled, until I power off then the first scene is the only one left to be able to access. Scene button is on. Am I missing something before I power off, like a final save? Maybe a switch is not optioned correctly?
could you show punch-in?
tanx!
I m only able to hear from A headphones
For the "A" headphone jack, if you have the button underneath the volume knob pressed, you will hear "A" mix, if you have the button up, you will hear the Master mix.
You can select also the faders for each mix by pressing the "Fader Mode" buttons. When the "Master mix " is red, the faders affect the master mix. If you press the "A" button and it turns red, the faders will affect the "A" mix. The same for the rest from B - E.
I hope this helps.
@@sugarcanerush That's just it I cant hear the master. I can only hear when A is pushed down.
@@poeticgeenetikstv1000 Not sure, have you switched the fader mode to Master and checked to make sure the faders are up on what you are listening to? Do you have speakers plugged in to the L&R Master out?
Can you hear anything at all from the speakers coming out of Master? Try plugging your headphone to B and leave the button up see if you hear Master mix then.
@sugarcanerush i don't have any monitors. Connected to the left and right. I just have 2 headphones, one plugged in A. That's the one I hear, but i have to push A down. I can't hear anything on the whole master. As far as when it's in maste rmode button pushed up.
@poeticgeenetikstv4672 where do you have the second headphone plugged in?
Can you hear the master mix on the second headphone? Remember to check the faders when the master button is red. Bring the faders up and down to see if it comes back. What are you listening to recorded tracks or microphones?
Hi Raul- What's the easiest way to convert files captured on my L-12 to an mp3 file, preferably without using DAW software?
Solved! Here's what I figured out... I used the monitor out jacks from the L-12 and routed through a lightning cable directly into my iPhone, used the Voice Recorder app that came with the iPhone and then emailed an mp3 to myself. I'm trying to get a rough draft recording to musicians quickly for an upcoming pro studio session.
You need to use a converter software. If you don't have a DAW then check out these choices:
There are several ways to convert a WAV file to an MP3 file. One way is to use an online converter such as FreeConvert.com1 or Convertio2. These websites allow you to upload your WAV file and convert it to MP3 format. Another way is to use Windows Media Player. You can go to the “Options” menu, select the “Rip Settings” tab and move the cursor to the “Format” tab. When the Format menu expands, select MP3 from the menu. Finalize the changes by clicking “Apply.” When this is complete, you can select the WAV file and press the “Rip” button3.
Hope this helps, I got it from Bing AI!
@@sugarcanerush Thanks! My solution was easier to implement and I had the cables, etc. from doing Fb "Live" broadcasts. I started on an Ensoniq SQ-80 back in the late 80s (which was a powerful workstation at the time) and have been trying to avoid the DAW experience. I guess I literally need to "get with the program"!
@@EvolvedCognition Glad you were able to solve your problem!
I think the DAW is the way to go. It sounds harder than it really is. I recommend you look into Bandlabs Cakewalk program. It''s a free full featured program that has everthing you need and it's not hard to use. I have been using it for many years.
