- Singer, songwriter, business woman, record producer and music executive Pebbles was born Perri Arlette McKissack in Oakland, California. The name Pebbles, she told the Los Angeles Times in 1988, was bestowed upon her as a child by her godfather. He got it from a character on the animated sitcom The Flintstones. She admits that even though she doesn’t look like Pebbles, the name stuck and became a part of her.

Every time I see Pebbles’ name, it always take me to the TLC situation. TLC easily had one of the worst recording contracts ever just to think about it.

Their contracts were no different than most of the industry acts.
Looking back at the 90s, it's probably the decade with the worst possible record contracts. So many big names from the 90s and even early 00s got screwed out of everything because of their contracts.

Pebbles was beautiful but cold blooded. What she did to Vanessa Williams was a trip. The record changed her life but thankfully Williams was able to bounce back. The thing with TLC wasn't their deal it was the fact that Pebbles didn't wanna renegotiate the deal. Those kinds of deal are standard after a successful debut you're supposed to renegotiate Pebbles didn't wanna do that thus led to them not making as money as they should've. TLC made money but if you make 75 mil and only see 300 thousand after its all said and done something ain't right.

Cherelle was a little ahead of her time. Everything Janet was able to accomplish was originally gonna be Cherelle lol least she has Saturday Love.
That happens a lot in the music industry. Music producers or executives will promise a song to one artist and then go behind their back and give it to someone else without telling the original artist it was promised to. It’s usually done in a very dirty underhanded shady way. Take for instance Leona Lewis. Calvin Harris offered the song “We Found Love”to her but then ditched her for Rihanna. The fucked up part about it is that Leona already recorded the song and was expecting to release it. Neither Calvin nor Rihanna felt any shame in taking it because they deemed her as beneath Rihanna in terms of star power. Another good example is Jennifer Lopez and Chante’ Moore. Rodney Jerkins gave Chante’ a song called “ If I Gave You Love”. Diddy heard it and demanded that the song be given to Jennifer. Jennifer had such a machine around her so much so that Chante’ couldn’t fight it. That’s how we ended up with “ If You Had My Love”.
As a kid I loved Pebbles! My mom let me have her "Always" CD and I played it till I couldn't play it anymore lol 🤣 32 years later and it still jams! I hate what happened Between her and TLC tho..😒

There’s something very narcissistic and mean-spirited about that woman. She’s a beautiful woman, but the issue is.. she knows it and I think it caused her to always feel very entitled.
I know biopics aren’t always 100 percent true… some things are tweaked, left out or thrown in for creative liberties. However, that scene where Pebbles is instantly jealous of Chilli’s beauty and accuses chilli of being “threatened by her” when pebbles was the one who was threatened… I believe that happened. Pebbles does seem like the type who cannot stand any type of competition.

I think, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, the defamation suit was more about some of the dramatic parts added into the TLC movie. Either way, I don't think she'll own up to it soon unless she wants some attention. I know this because she blocked me on Twitter just a few months ago for resharing an old meme about her in the TLC movie😂 Pebbles can't face reality because she was so used to getting her way fron her looks. T-Boz and Left Eye were not responsible for tryna kick Chilli out. If you’re a real TLC fan, you remember a special they did years ago when Lisa first passed called What It’s Like on VH1. T-Boz wasn’t even at the auditions for the replacement girl because her mother drop a bed on her foot that same day and cut her toe off. I’ll never forget the special. Chilli had braids in, they were in Atlanta visiting all their old spots like the skating rink, Kandi was on it in the studio with them because she wrote “Girl Talk” from the 3D album. They even visited their old jobs like the salon and the restaurant.
It may have not been about the girls trying to kick Chilli out. Chilli was recording a solo album with Babyface as a producer before their last album with Lisa (alive) came out. I think that was 3D. I remember Babyface talking about how he was recording with Chilli for her solo project which she dropped as soon as this TLC project started.

The producers of the TLC documentary contacted my cousin & asked her if she wanted to participate in the documentary she said NO. This is one of the reasons she left the industry. However, when she went to confront Whitney, it was said Nippy politely got her together. The next thing that happened, Whitney and Pebbles became BFFs. True story. 😅

Kids were horrible to me. They'd call my hair "peter rican" and put pencils in my waves. I never could bring myself to sit with the black kids at the bus stop because they talked so much shit about me. I remember the last day of 6th grade and I was so disappointed that I never had the courage to sit down with them. Disappointed and relieved. 😂 They would call me poor because I didn't press my hair or wear Filas but yet they were the ones with the free lunch tickets. 🥴

I always liked Pebbles and felt that Clive Davis of Arista records, which was the parent company of the distribution deal with La Face, pushed Pebbles out, when she was the one who initially signed TLC and had a valid contract with them. I totally understand what she was saying on the WW show. THIS was the "maneuver" that she was talking about. I remember the 90s when TLC filed bankruptcy at the suggestion of Arista because Lisa set Andre Rison's bathtub on fire and his house caught on fire and TLC was broke, as a group. The filed a bankruptcy BEFORE going on tour, where they were going to sell out arenas because the second album, Crazy Sexy Cool was BLOWING UP THE CHARTS. I remember them talking about this in Vibe magazine when they were on that cover in Fireman suits holding water hoses. The article headline was something like, "TLC on Fire." Pebbles had every right to get paid because they signed an original contract with her that was still valid. Arista and LaFace went against Pebbles and made her out to b e the "fall guy." Even though Pebbles and LA were divorcing during this time, both he and Babyface KNEW it was wrong to kick Pebbles out like this but they wouldn't dare go up against Clive/Arista. THIS IS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. But people love to dog out Pebbles. People don't like her because she is light skinned with long hair and considered "pretty."
I saw the interview on Behind the Music and Left Eye specially said that the contract TLC received is "the typical contract that new artist get." New artists sign these contracts but never really know how much they are going to sell until their music is actually released. This happens all the time with new artists. No company is going to pay you tons of money at the beginning.
Exactly! The only bad thing about that was the fact that they were signed to so many deals. However, that's how it goes in the music business. For those who don't want to end up with bad contracts, learn the corporate side of the music business and have a good legal rep who can explain everything to you in layman's terms.
It is dead wrong and I hope more artists go indie.
TLC should have been getting more than 7% of the Album sales when they sold over 3 million records on the first album and then 10 million on the second album when the record company got a return on their investment off of both albums that proved that the girls weren’t just an overnight success and they should have went into the second album with the percentage that they had when they started working on Fanmail that’s when they started making money

Its not down playing her. It is an acknowledgment that although she experienced it, we’ve experienced it. It’s not off limits. Reading is Fundamental. There was no downplaying her skin tone. If it was, there would be no mention or acknowledgment of it. And all it does, is shine a light on how there is colorism issues amongst our race…. And the way folks are jumping like she was attacked… just speaks to the point.
