Despite not needing a laptop like this, I watched the review to keep informed and ...entertained. Without doubt the best reviewer on the Net! Thank you making these videos.
Great review as usual Lisa 👍 What difference in temperatures do you get switching between the balanced and High performance profile? I heard that at high performance the GPU is switched to 90w versus the usual 80w. For example my Dell G7 2070 MQ got a graphics score in Timespy of 6771 yet the Lenovo Legion Y740 with the same fan ups it to 90w+ and gets a graphics score of 7039. Is it possible to let us know your findings if you still have the laptop? Thanks!
Would‘ve been cool if you‘d have mentioned the silver studio version which comes with an up to I9, 120HZ OLED screen and Quadro RTX 5000. Besides that as usual good review. I agree with Dave2D though, the cooling would have enough headroom for the I9 (well which they do on the studio version).
Not sure how I've never seen any of your reviews.. But this is excellent, well thought out and very useful. Instant subscribe. One question - I had the MSI P75 (9750h, rtx2060) which is basically a silver version of the GS75, returned it due to thermal issues and in all honesty the build quality I found to be average. How does this compare or due to the weight would you go for the RB15 advanced? My options would be this 9750h/2060 RB Pro 17 or the 8750h/2070mq version of the RB15.. Same ram and storage. I've heard the panel in the 15 can be a bit of a lottery between the LG and BOE panels so I'm apprehensive to go for the 15 even if its probably the better, more portable option.
Always enjoy your reviews Lisa. Detailed and on point. I like how you showed the power brick on this review. Might I make a suggestion for future reviews? Could you weigh the notebook and the power brick? The dimensions and the weight of the laptop might be available on the manufacturers spec sheet, but not for specific configurations. Also, none of the manufacturers publish (at least I've never seen) the weight of the power brick. The "Total Travel Weight" IMO is more important than just the notebook weight. Also if USB-C/Thunderbolt can be used for power delivery, there are 3rd party power brick solutions available which may actually be lighter and smaller than the one that comes with the notebook. I understand that for gaming notebooks, USB-C power delivery will probably not cut it but it would be good to know that a lighter travel weight option is available.
I don't like playing my games in the 80 and 90 temps :/. Burns mah finger tips. Switching out the stock paste for some thermal grizzly whatever stuffs when I get home. Finally picked some up.
I like both the Razer Blade pro 17 RTX 2070 AND the MSI GS75 Stealth RTX2070. In your opinion what is the better option primarily for games but also for portable use for school when I need to do research and write essays and what not.
Lisa, why are you saying that i9 would run hotter? We all know it would be TDP limited anyway so instead of being hotter than i7 it would just run at a little lower clockspeeds, which would still be great for creators who can utilize all those 16 threads. Also you say no power limit throttling, why then only 900+ score in Cinebench R15? My i7 8750h in Dell G3 scores 1250 points on the first run where there is no power limit. Anyway, thanks for the review! About the laptop - really disliking the only-matte display, as I prefer glossy ones. And about the GPU - it went from full-fledged 150 watt gtx 1080 to max q 90 watt 2080. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Hi quick question. I have this laptop but my symbols on my keyboard don't light up . I haven't got a clue how I have turned them off. any ideas would be appreciated
Hey Lisa, Are gonna do a Q&A? If so, I have a question; what's the sweet spot for graphics cards (in a mobile Device) when working with Davinci Resolve?
Just got the 15 OLED couple days ago, love it, ordered the pro and is coming in two days, so solid and internals are quality, upgraded the OLED to 64gb and only complaint is the damn black ribbon/tape that partially covers the ram closest to the rear of the unit. Looking forward to the studio edition in September and the one by Asus StudioBook S W700G3P

On the 4k issue: I wonder if manufacturers are intentionally downgrading 1080 screens in order to sell more 4k. It’s still less than a reasonable decked out MacBook Pro 15. And that is kinda crazy when you think about that. MacBook Pro will run you $4200 for 32 RAM, 1 TB HD and Vega 20.
Stayed just long enough to hear of the pending studio model with higher res screen and stopped there - as I'd want (i.e. dream of) this as a hi-end but gen purpose fairly mobile PC, full HD for a 17" is not good enough. Will return for that studio review!
MobileTechReview Lisa I really love laptops and there are only two big channels that focus on laptops, yours and dave’s. I will love to watch a weekly or even daily show of MobileTechReview talking about laptops recommendations for different type of people needs and incoming laptops and much more. Have you thought about it?
i love how everyone is bitchin about the price while a decent spec macbook goes the same since the lowest macs are above 1100 k aaaaand you CANNOT EVEN DREAM of having an invidia 1000 bucks gpu chipset stuffed in there
i have the 2060 17inch model 144hz 1080p panel, if anyone is thinking of getting this, for new games like COD MW, the 2060 roughly gets somewhere between 75 to 90 fps in medium settings and it doesn’t have enough grunt to take advantage of the 144hz panel, let alone 240hz. i guess games requring less graphical horsepower would be worth it. food for thought. also the lack of Gsync, to my surprise, no screen tear, no idea why.
It does have good cooling, indeed. But the 2080MQ version will throttle on 1080p Ultra in Far Cry New Dawn (not badly though). FC is a pretty tough test, though.
Stopped watching when you said how much the base model cost. How do the Tech companies think ordinary people can afford high prices - especially when the devices they are promoting will probably be out of date in a couple of years
useful review, but I must disagree with your assesment of the screen. sub 300nits, well sub aRGB=100, and a 1080p on 17" low DPI is borderline a joke for a "Pro" laptop. for gaming fine, but just Razer should not call this a "Pro" laptop.
Debating with myself about saving for this or just saving for a super high end desktop PC but I like low travel keyboards and having my screen attached to that so that's what makes laptops so appealing to me. I could do something wicked high end but I wouldn't be happy with the keyboard so I might save for this. Might just build a high end desktop and upgrade my chromebook on the side because I still NEED a laptop as well. If Chromebooks ever get thunderbolt 3 support for eGPU's though (to use with Linux obviously) I'll never buy another Windows computer. Love Razer's laptops but seriously considering just getting a desktop instead because I don't need my performance PC to be portable, I'd actually rather have a lower power laptop like my Chromebook for my portable device because power doesn't mean squat if you don't have decent battery life. My Chromebook gets 12 hours per charge. That's better than most laptops still and it's better than ALL gaming laptops. I'll probably just get a Razer case and build a gaming desktop to go along with my Chromebook. Definitely going with cult of razer no matter which of the two platforms I choose but at least I have a while to decide.

I still don’t get why Razers are considered to be the best. Not as many ports as other laptops, nowhere near as good of a value compared to other laptops, crappy keyboard and not great thermals. I would buy this laptop if it had g-sync, 6+ hours of battery life, core temperatures that were in the mid 80s C. Good video, nonetheless
I guess it's due to being the only ones with this design and build quality among Windows gaming laptops and also a professional, "not too gamery" look. If they weren't so overpriced and if users didn't report so many problems with them I'd definitely consider getting one.

17" laptop with 6 cores+ and 7 hour battery: Does it exist?
Impossible if u want a brick then maybe
Aero 17.
I would by it in an instant but the display Full HD is a deal breaker
I still don’t get why Razers are considered to be the best. Not as many ports as other laptops, nowhere near as good of a value compared to other laptops, crappy keyboard and not great thermals. I would buy this laptop if it had g-sync, 6+ hours of battery life, core temperatures that were in the mid 80s C. Good video, nonetheless
I guess it's due to being the only ones with this design and build quality among Windows gaming laptops and also a professional, "not too gamery" look. If they weren't so overpriced and if users didn't report so many problems with them I'd definitely consider getting one.
TabalugaDragon very true
Cameron Bosch Optimus/g-sync switchability is available on more laptop brands than just Asus.
nice stuff!
Nice Review Mom!
Not worth the price differential between this and competing equivalently configured units.
does it run minecraft tho?
great 17" laptop
