I love your idea that music means to you whatever you want it, despite what the writer actually meant. That's really empowering. I've tried to decipher lyrics all my life, and I've never thought of it that way.
So few reactions on this amazing song, as much as I like Kingdom I feel like there's nothing quite like this one ! Glad you liked it !
Also your analysis is correct, I believe he wrote this song after his complete disgust with the music industry and the end of his illusion for it, hence the death of music.
Devin said its about his disappointment about music industry (lies, contracts and money more important than music itself).
This gig was at the Royal Albert Hall in London, one of the most prestigious concert halls in England - it's where "The Proms" happen every summer, eight weeks of daily concerts celebrating all kinds of music. I was amazed to see Dev selected to play there, someone at the RAH knows their prog metal :)
Thanks for the genuine reaction! Try "Higher" from the "Live at Plovdiv" concert. Fantastic performance, and it takes you through a bit more of Devins philosophy of life. It's truly uplifting.
If noone else has said it yet, I'd like to add that this performance was like 2.5hours into a live set.
Deadhead is good too, actually anything he does is exemplary!
Thanks for doing the death of music.. It's epic (as you now know).. After that you need something more fun.. Please consider vampyra (official vid) or why (quarantine concert) for the lighter side... Or just go balls deep into strapping....
Cheers mate.
Ps.. Yes deadhead is great but it has been whipped by everyone along with Kingdom..
Anything of ziltoid or deconstruction is also a must listen.. Also casualties of cool is flawless..
Pps.. That was a long Ps... Sorry.. 😂
He's had a lot of mental health issues in his life and a lot of his songs are about that, and about positivity in the face of adversity. Gigs are incredible man, such a positive vibe, everyone fucking hugging each other afterwards, it's a totally uplifting experience
Dont die Dev......just never die.
That climbing from begging to rage is what gives me life. When I’m at my lowest, this kind of rage gets me up and I use it to fix some things.
Thanks very much ! This is a huge lift for my day - I consider this to be his vocal masterpiece. It was a pleasure getting to enjoy this emotionally intense performance with you. Subbed and bell for sure Come to his Crappy Halloween special on October 31st Steve Vai and Anneke are going to be there as well
Enjoyed your reaction bud. If you don't know about it and you're interested Devin has a series of podcasts which he has done over the pandemic period talking abut his albums - this track being on the first album he talks about.. It looks and sounds like a fabulous insight!
Awesome, I will check it out!
I would definitely recommend "Spirits Will Collide" from Devin Townsend, off his Empath record.. the video itself is silly, but being in a very dark place, that song was a light in the darkness that I desperately needed due to its strong message. I still go back to it if things get sideways. Great to see someone take up one of the other "big" songs he has done. Cheers!
I found this band through another Nightwish reactor and I'm just blown away. So, so good. And I've been there, and I'm still there, but music is what takes you to another dimension. It lifts you higher.
It'll get better, hang in there 😖😫
Devin Townsend is the real deal. He's been to some dark places, and he shows how and why he came back. He shares so much of his reality to help others as well as himself. He's an awesome dude. Like I suggested in my comment on the reaction, listen to "Higher" from "Live at Plovdiv". It's exactly what the title implies. All the best!
@@un7itledreacts 🤞🤞
@@digibirder Great stuff!! Thank you.
Welcome to the world of Hevy Devy!
Such an emotional and powerful song. Luv Devy 🇨🇦🤘
Deadhead is the best one of them all IMO. Keep doing it man, your reactions are great, without bullshit and with some deep thoughts
Thank you!💓
Brother, great reaction. Honest, open, and respectful. New sub!!!!
Great reaction, I think you were pretty close with your analysis. If you continue the journey with Devin, I'll be there to feel it all over again. Yes, Deadhead at RAH is awesome, but do be warned, it gets blocked a lot. Higher! at Plovdiv certainly worth it as well. Since you liked this song and the subject matter of it, I think you'd like that one as well.
Can't go wrong with a bit Devin Townsend.
Personally, I can't go past Deadhead from this same concert as being his most epic song. Any song from the Royal Albert Hall concert is just great.
He does some really cool videos from quarantine that are worth checking out. "Why?" is a brilliant one.
Enjoyed the breakdown. Gave me a slightly different perspective.
Wait until you see his "skullett" days🤣🤣🤣🤣long hair but totally bald on days
Oh yes please DEADHEAD next please
I second that, Deadhead at Royal Albert Hall.
Third for Deadhead Live at Royal Albert Hall.
@@user-lz7fn9ho3c 🤣🤣I was just watching it again🤣🤣
I vouch for Plovdiv version tho :(
@@soon_to_emerge They are all good. Don't really mind what version.👍🏻👍🏻
Your insight was spot-on. We assingn meaning based on personal experience. Art is subjective.
My initial take:
Someone bent on knowing what death sounds like... finds out. Best friend -- guilt wracked-- still mourns.
Don't die on me, indeed.
Best reactiin video ive seen
If ever a song became a spiritual experience this song did. This song sounds like the feelings I experienced watching my son die in my arms from cancer.
I am so sorry.
I absolutely love this song, but in this version you can hear that his voice is tired from the previous 2 hours of singing, and having a cold. Check out the Live at Plovdiv version, it's even better. He's still a master in this show, but it gets even better my friend!
Hey man, good reaction. Did you grow up in the Central Valley in CA? Your accent sounds like it!
Very close! Central Coast area.
Devin is my Lord and Savior 💯🤘🔥
The days of having hair a beard would had been back when he was the frontman for Strapping Young Lad.
It was not cold in there :)
React to Sleep Token - Calcutta please!
I suggest the new song from female thrash metal band called Nervosa ( new members). Song called Guided by evil. m.ua-cam.com/video/9xs2YGGrbZA/v-deo.html
