    This mic is really amazing!
    By the way, to prepare myself for one minute films I bought the Rode VideoMicro and did a non-technical quality review.
    Excited for one minute films!

    Woot! Great little coverage on this mic! Very excited about the new features :) Would have loved a quick audio sample as well, but I'm sure it's rock solid just like their existing mic.

    A really cool documentary on Spielberg just came out on the 7th as well. He talks about his life, how he got into film, his technique, and more. Really inspiring stuff. If you have HBO I would definitely recommend watching it.

    Not bad, honestly it picks up everything which I found annoying. I had that but I ended up getting a Zoom H1 and using a lav mic. Why Zoom H1? Well, 1. the zoom accepts and lav input 2. You can use it on the hotshoe or off so you can use it just for picking up sound effects or interviewing 3. It fits in your pocket and the sound is insanely crisp 4. The mic can be used for many other purposes even when the camera is off. 5. Could be use for videos such as prank videos where the person is far away

    Great review! I'm really digging all the updates to the Video Mic Pro. The auto on and off, safety level on the second channel of audio and the detachable 3.5mm cable are really the standout features for me. It's also really nice to see that they updated the door. No more broken battery door tabs or lost battery doors. Do you think it's worth the upgrade if you own the original VMP? Cheers!

    I always wonder how they managed to make the original battery door so bad. It must have taken a lot of r and d. Instinctively and with the next dozen most obvious ways to do it would have resulted in a much easier to use battery door but the commitment and time they must have put in to make it as bad as it is really shows.

    Hey Ryan! What do you think about budget Chinese stabilizers like the Neewer 24 inch and Yelangu S60t on Amazon and Aliexpress? What's the best budget (

    • @Antiganos
      @Antiganos 7 років тому

      altern There's a great review of the Yelangu S60T by Eskild Fors.

    • @DysnomiaFilms
      @DysnomiaFilms 7 років тому

      The Laing stabilizers are pretty good for the price, but the left/right balance seems to shift on it's own accord a bit so you probably won't be able to get perfect dynamic balance. Below $100 they're all going to be pretty crap. If you're not looking at getting serious with steadicam style stabilizers you'd probably be better off with a gimbal. On a basic level they're way easier to operate.

    I use the rode videomicro for my setup, and I love it! My main argument when I first got it was I didn't have to worry about leaving the mic on (I'm not a professional like y'all), but this mic has for sure put my argument to bed! Great review! When I upgrade this mic will be on my short list.

    What are your thoughts on the Azden SMX-30 shotgun/stereo switchable microphone? It seems a bit beefier, but just as versatile as this mic with the added plus of being able to switch to stereo with the flip of a switch if you need/want to capture ambient sounds in a shot without switching microphones entirely.

    I prefer harware switches on "normal" PRO, but having auto power on/off is good enough reason to accept soft buttons.
    BATTERY COMPARTMEN DOOR on my old PRO is sooo frustrating, that this is enough reason to me already to upgrade.
    What about sound? For me PRO is not much usefull. I found STEREO version much, /MUCH!/ better and more natural. I used Videomic PRO on top of my CANON XHA1, to improve sound - e.g. to pick speech more clearly from few meters.But this "shotgun" does not resolve speech any better than camera's integrated mic, so I ended up, always using CANON's integrated MIC and do some "audio mapping" out of that. I stopped using PRO for that reason, since it is my worst mic - If I look from DSLR stand point, it is huge improvement, but from XHA1's integrated MIC, it is not. That I use externam recorders like Zoom H6, and again, this MONO MIC is way behind. While StereoVideoMicPro is fantastic, natural and to my ears it outperforms shotgun mono version even at picking and resolving speakers.
    Having said battery compartment doors are frustrating - battery last for ever, so I stopped bothering taking battery out after shoot. It last a year or more in my case.
