    Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed this video. A question: when I said “Have a good catch”, the man answered “I wish you no tail, no scales”, meaning the opposite, similar to “Break a leg!” in English. When I was writing the captions, I didn’t find an equivalent to this phrase. Can you share under this comment, what phrases do you usually say in English when you want to wish good luck to a fisherman? (And in other languages too). And another question: how do I ask a person about whether the fishing is successful today? In Russian we say “How is the biting today” - do you say it in English too?

    • @LarryKapp1
      @LarryKapp1 3 роки тому +23

      Fishing - same here " Are they biting?" or maybe just " Are you catching anything ? " I thought that no scales comment had to do with him catching an eel which has no scales - ha ha . Probably would just say " Good luck !"

      "are they biting today" is something i've heard here in U.S., but "I wish you no tail, no scales" is really an unique and classy statement. Great vid, reminds me of rural Arkansas close to the Mississippi River.

      "Are they biting? "

      In English, we would say "How is the fishing today?" or "Have you caught anything today?". The fisherman might reply, "The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad."
      For the first part of the question, I guess it would just be a simple "Have a good time fishing" or "Good luck fishing today".

    This is an EXCELLENT video, very peaceful and calming. I was able to find the village on Google Earth, with your help, and locate and follow your "walk about" quite easy in the NW part of town. The inclusion of so many little things, like the flower garden inside the open gate, along with the calm, peaceful "talk along" while you walk make this video TOP QUALITY. @@SamsRussianAdventures Hi Sam, I've watched a number of your videos and they are very good, I find video's of not only Russia and China very interesting, but all over the world there are incredible 4K (as clear as being there) videos of anything you could ever dream of seeing and along with Google Earth, it's better than anything I could have imagined decades ago, being a long time "map junkie". I believe Natasha's success has a lot to do with her young, discovering, "sharing from her heart" feelings about what she sees and experiences. It's not possible for corporate media to convey the same genuineness and even for older, more mature people like ourselves, we can only show and describe in our more experienced manner...One thing about your videos that I really liked is how you just "shut up" and let the people talk, that's "real class" compared to "reporters" who only want to hear themselves and don't even listen to what their subjects are saying...keep up the good work, people like Natasha are rare, natural talents...another one I really like is Maria of "Life in Yakutia", Cheers...

    Hi Natasha. The sky is hugh, stretching from low horizon to low horizon. There are no high landmarks. The sky is like a canvas on this video. There are many different shades of blue, grey and turquoise which may explain the predominant choice of colour for the man made structures. These are contrasted with emerald green foliage, darker grey waters and dusty metal roads with the odd animals thrown in to complete the rustic charm. Thanks for le tour.

    Lovely video, as always. Very serene. You have a reflective, gentle, and objective way of looking at what's in front of you and describing it. And you always put what you observe in a broader, meaningful context, such as historical or cultural. The photo of you as a young girl fishing is so sweet!! I hope your childhood was one of happiness and only fond memories!! My grandparents lived in a very rural area and had no indoor plumbing until I was around 10 years old. Even then, there was no hot water and taking a bath required heating water on the stove to add to the cold water in the tub. They had a well right outside their old wooden house but I recall going into the small town with my grandfather to fill up huge barrels from a metered pump that took quarters (25 cents) for a large number of gallons of water. Although many conveniences were not available, I spent many weekends during school months and almost all summer staying at my grandparent's house. Those were some of the best times of my life!!

      If Ameicans had to process their own meat their would be a lot more vegatarians. Seems like most don't even know where it comes from before the grocery store. I am being sarcastic about the last part...sort of

    I enjoyed your video and your laid back presentation. Also your compassionate reasons for not fishing any more.

    Yes, "are they biting today?" We just say, 'hope you catch something', or just 'good luck!'
    Incredibly interesting, love the landscape, so green. But thoughts of winter make me shiver (I live in Montana).

      Hi, can you do my a favour? I am a huge fan of Natasha and I have also been making videos about Russia for 4 years but without the success that Natasha has encountered. In fact I would say that she is a youtube phenomenon. Her channel has grown so quickly. Is it possible for you to watch my video and tell me what it is that you don't like and what I can do to improve? I have over 200 videos on my channel and I am considering to stop creating content because I don't get many views and it is very frustrating for me. But please don't compare me directly to Natasha, because only Natasha can be Natasha. Thanks in advance.

    It's so fascinating to watch what life is like in that part of the world. I used to fish a lot. It's very common to just ask 'Any luck?' or to just wish someone 'good luck' when they're fishing. I kind of like 'no tails, no scales' better. Russians crack me up. So resourceful and I was there before and saw firsthand how much they love to help each other in any bad situation. Like a car getting stuck in the snow or someone in need.
