How to Fly VATSIM Oceanic Crossing - Easy Tutorial | ATC Clearence & Position Reports

- Since the release of the PMDG B777-300ER, many more people have been taking to the virtual skies in MSFS 2020 and making Oceanic crossings. When on VATSIM, this needs to be done in the correct way which is essentially, the same way as it is done in real life. It may seem daunting at first but this video will ensure you know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it in the most simple way possible to ensure you have a good and realistic Oceanic crossing.
IMPORTANT NOTES:-
- Not all controllers use CPDLC & is not a requirement to fly Oceanic on VATSIM.
- Position reports are not mandatory (as IRL and on VATSIM, controllers can see where you are now!) - but, you can make/send them if you wish.
- If you fly a NAT Track that is not longer valid (see video), controllers can no longer clear you via this 'NAT track' but instead, will treat it as a random route
- Once in Oceanic airspace, SQUAWK code 2000 should be used
- The easiest way to file your Oceanic clearence is to use the NatTrak website shown in the video

Thanks to all (especially Verbjimtim) for helping to answer questions & make things clear.
Excellent information. Thank you.
Hello from vatsim oceanic controller, we actually asume that everyone entering airspace is ABS-B equipped so no position reports are required. If pilots want to make them we ofc allow, but its not necessary.
so no need to request entry?
Great video, thanks for your content pal.
Thanks for another great tutorial!!! I've been meaning to ask for this!
You're very welcome and thank you so much for your kind support.
Thank you for this video, will defo give it a test try - just hope I don’t chicken out haha
Great video however I believe there is are some information that is incorrect when doing Oceanic crossings when on VATSIM. 1 thing I didn't hear you mention is that you should be squawking 2000 after being in Oceanic airspace for 30 mins
Thanks for the tutorial! Haven't flown oceanic in a hot minute, but sure will do in the near future. From what I can remember I once was told not to reach the entrypoint before a certain time. And I remember to have set the time in the MCDU of either the PMDG 747 or 777. Do I remember correctly? and if so - how did I do that? :D
At about 14:25 can I check what you said? I heard '...above FL550', which seems a bit off. I've probably just misheard or misunderstood your meaning though
@@Haz0052-tu7rr should be FL55... not 550
So on unicom just fly wihout clearnce? Thx verry much for the vid
So I don't have to request an oceanic clearence or give position reports if there's not a controller online at the moment?
great videos, cam you link the nattrack website please

Soo how does the selcal alarm work in the 777, because whrn i flew in ctp I didn't get any alert in the 787.
what do we put in atc facility
What are your pc specs?
First!
Hello , Is that really how it works on VATSIM ? because unfortunately many controllers over Atlantic do not accept CPDLC , only voice or web clearence available . I don't know why, since we already have ACARS system modelled in 777 , or do any of you have any better info about it ? .
@@GodfatherCZ1 the use of CPDLC is at the discretion of the controller.
Heya, ACARS isn't supported at the moment on VATSIM due to software limitations. We are, however, looking to see if we are able to implement it in our controller clients. For now, nattrak will simulate our ACARS operation in VATSIM.
Is there a conventional methode of HF communication and SELCAL for message contacts from ATC? Or is there only VHF and CPDLC for clearence in the 777?
Unfortunately, VATSIM cannot replicate HF.
@Easyjetsimpilot Correction to this, VATSIM doesn't support HF radios, but it does a nifty trick with VHF where you tune into a VHF frequency that is aliased to a HF, and when tuned in range of a controller on that frequency, it tunes into HF on the AFV backend. You won't be able to see the HF frequency yourself, but your pilot client is actually tuned to HF.😊
@@funkyspyspy that's really clever.
6:35. a tailstrike and tire press message on the status lol
@@adakushe8161 yes, due to the replay mod and GSX pushback 🤣
@@Easyjetsimpilot once i ignored tailstrike message on display, and got pressurisation problems. so PMDG realized damage of airframe
@@Malloriaksame here!
Question i'm hoping you can answer. If no controller is online, do we not file clearance? Then what happens if we've not filed clearance if no controller is online, and one actually comes online?
Heya, if there isn't a controller online before you enter, then you don't need to file it in nattrak. You can if you want, but it's optional. If you have entered oceanic airspace and a controller comes online, there's no need to get oceanic clearance, it'll be taken as though you've already been given.
@@funkyspyspy Amazing stuff, never flown oceanic myself so was a bit apprehensive. Thanks very much for the info! 🙂
Is it just hoppie code I need - any software that needs downloading ? There is a software on the website to download ? Is that needed ?
No software required.
Hello. i have question about active oceanic tracks..
SimBrief calculated KJFK MERIT HFD PUT ENE CANME DULBA OVIXI YNA LOMSI 55N050W 59N040W 61N030W 62N020W 62N010W ERSER IPTOK EKTAR ADOPI ENGM
Site above has no info about track at LOMSI.... and second question.. if track inactive i should wait untill it become active? ofc it is not problem in real life, flight schedules are made according that situation. But in simulator.. if i cant sycronise my free time for play with that shedule table i cant cross ocean?
It's not a problem, this would just be a Random Route - which is fine.
All it means is when requesting your oceanic clearance, you have to report EVERY waypoint across the Ocean instead of just saying 'NAT C' for example.
You made no mention of TMI number which is very important or did I miss it?
