How to Downgrade the BIOS on your Lenovo ThinkPad T430/X230

So say you want to do some Mods or remove the whitelists for WI-FI or something on your T430/X230, BUT you are on say a too new version of the BIOS, well you're not out of luck! Now the installer that Lenovo provides you with will refuse to downgrade as you already have a newer version.
With my tutorial you can get round this by Flashing the BIOS directly via command prompt getting round any checks to see if you are on a newer BIOS.
In this case, i wanted to remove the WIFI Whitelist but i was on Version 2.82 and for the WI-FI Whitelist removal i would need to be on 2.64.
This may work on say the, T420 and X220 but do this at your own risk.
Confirmed this does also indeed work on the X230.

Did yours act in the same manner when you run the cmd promt after copying the line from notepad? Mine flashed a screen up so quick I couldn’t read it and it acts like nothing was done.
it didnt work on first time but i did enter on bios and disable security chip, disable safe boot, and enabled bios downgrade capable, put on UEFI only and CSM yes, try again and worked! very thanks!

I can not thank you enough! While updating the drivers of my X230 with the ThinkVantage System Update I accidentally updated to the latest BIOS/EC as well. Since I wanted to install the old X220 keyboard I thought I had locked the BIOS until I discovered your magic sauce. For some reason though the BIOS got rolled back to 2.61 but the EC remained at the latest 1.15 version. I then installed BIOS version 2.75 directly from Lenovo and the EC luckily got rolled back to 1.14 again so I'm all set for the keyboard mod. Seriously, how do people come up with such workarounds?! Good stuff, thank you again!

thanks, it works perfectly fom my lenovo t430, I also replace the WWAN / WLAN Card for Intel 7260 Dual Band AC after flash bios and it work perfectly
Worked like a charm! P.S. you should make sure that end-user flashing is enabled in the BIOS aswell! and if you get errors such as "file not found", you have the drivers for the wrong model!

Where is the drivers folder?
Im assuming you moved it to the out of another folder within the C drive
I find the one in system32 but it doesnt have the flash folder in there.
It is there when u try to open your bios driver, it must not be named 'driver', it depends on your directory when u extracted the driver from the exe first

hi, I'm using Thinkpad W530 and there are two(2) folders in my folder C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\.... the old one version 2.76 created on 12/10/2020, and the new one version 2.75 created on 19/10/2020. which one do

Used it on a ghost windows 10 install and produces the 255 error code tdk library initialization failed. Does this mean, windows has to be official?
Everything is working fine.
However I was not able to find the option to change the BIOS time and date. I am having some issues with my backup battery and the system keeps asking me to adjust the BIOS time and date.
Can you give me the instructions to get the date and time changed within BIOS?
Can you use this method on the T440 models
It doesn't work for me, I have bios version 2.77, the system tries to flash but it's still in the same version, it's as if it didn't do anything.try disabling security in the bios. but it seems that what this method does is update to the latest version, but not to an earlier version
You downloaded the wrong file
It just says "The system cannot find the path specified"

i have different files locations and different number of files for example the only thing about bios i can find is at:
C:\BIOS there is 2 folders in this bios folder the old version and the newer version which i want to change it with the older the older and newer bios folders only have one file BWCN12WW.exe and BWCN14WW.exe
when i try to install the older version it gives me an error says:
the version of ROM file is not newer than that of bios.
Hi this helped with my T430 , just got a T440P , so I do same to roll back and get after reboot "secure flash authentication failed” then powers off , I checked Bios settings , both bios settings seems correct , security UEFI Bios Update options , Flash updating by end users , Enabled , Secure Rollback Prevention , Disabled . ? any ideas ?

The system cannot find the path specified.
Is Windows 10 not recognizing the /sd /file command?

Hi, i think i got kind of the same problem. CMD on a win 10 machine doesn't recognice the command. Just does nothing. May i ask you how did you solve this issue? I couldn't find any instructions elswhere on the modding sites.
This could have been a great post Scott, if only you had spoken a bit clearer and not kept moving the camera all over the place, Impossible to follow.

It's possible to use this method for T420 with 1.52 bios version? I don't have a "winflash64.exe" file there is only "winflash64.sys"
