I've burned out the converter board and the motherboard by accidentally connecting them when the power cord was in and blowing the backlight fuse (hopefully the mobo isn't actually damaged but I have no way to check yet), and I've only recently managed to acquire another used T430 for cheap, so all the parts are ready for me to repeat this upgrade but with a WQHD panel (thankfully it didn't suffer any ill effects) and an i7-3840QM. Thanks for the video, it will come very handy during the process.

It's an ESD foam, and rightfully so. Probably the best use for that foam I have seen yet..! You can tell it's ESD and safe to use in that manner from the Pink color. There is also a blue ESD fome but tends to be much more rigid... One of the components used came packaged in the ESD foam I would imagine... Excellent stuff right here, next time don't forget to upgrade the Ram too..!

Is that a thick guitar pick you used to pry open the plastic seams? Or is that a dedicated tool? This is relaxing, but also it wouldn’t put me to sleep because it’s so interesting lol.

I don't understand why did you installed a old IBM keyboard. The original one on this T430 is away better to the T420 keyboard..

Hi Wonfgang, wonderful video.. thank you! May I ask you whether the screen and the CPU upgrade can also take place (with the same part numbers) onto a T430s -which is the one I have? I have already upgraded the Hard Drive and RAM, and thinking of upgrading the CPU -if possible, as well as the screen with the one you have upgraded your T430.
Also, what is the LVDS-to-eDP converter and why does it need to be changed/added?
Thank you and well done once more for the great video!

      Hey!
      1. The screen upgrade is possible for the T430s, but you'll need a different eDP adapter
      2. The LVDS to eDP adapter is necessary because LVDS (the display protocol used in T430(s)) only supports up to 1600x900px resolution
      3. The CPU upgrade is not possible unfortunately, since the CPU is soldered to the motherboard
P.S. Thanks for the donation :)

@@WolfgangsChannel Thank you once more, will then look for a LVDS to eDP for a T430s. Any thoughts on what “type” of LVDS to eDP connector I need for the T430s? How do I determine what is the “right” convertor type? Are they “T430s” converter models or I need myself to understand what is the correct one? Thank you!

It had 12GB. No dual-channel, so I might exchange the 4GB stick for 8GB

A manufacturer’s recommended max is conservative so you can see if you can exceed it. If the RAM installed is more than the cpu can support, your laptop simply won’t boot.

May you make a video on how to partition two disks, one ssd and the other hdd. Which directories should be in ssd and which in hdd. I've read somewhere to put /bin, /sbin, /usr/bin (basically directories that are not written too often) in the ssd and put /var, /tmp (and the like) in the hdd.
    Thanks for creating quality videos!

It generally doesn't matter all that much in my experience. I usually go for mounting /home on my hard drive, and /boot and / on the SSD.

/ on SSD and /home HDD. Try to create a .cache .config and .local link to the SSD too
