I have the boomer it’s only 650 fill but because it has the water proof shell its rated for sub zero 🥶 temperature it’s all you need but if your out of your mind and want to climb 🧗 a mountain in negative zero well I brought the EB Xv lol 😂
One of your best videos yet. Can definitely feel your enthusiasm about how useful this jacket is for you. Also, congrats on getting down to a weight you’re happier with!
I have 2 Superior Down Parkas. Currently wearing one. Black in XL and Indigo in XLT. Its about 40°F outside and I'm toasty with just a t-shirt. My only complaint is like you said, bottom drawstrings and a detachable hood
Male, 6'2, 143 pounds (skinny) Just ordered one for myself, a tall version, size L. Got it for 160 Canadian dollars (a steal I'd say, good discounts online). Let's see how this goes :) I really need such a jacket, first winter in Canada (Ottawa can get very cold yikes)
I got the step down one because i wanted to try it on before i bought, and got it on a half off deal. Apparently the stores are packed with coats in their backrooms, according to the sales person i bought from.
Yeah that makes sense that manufacturing has caught up since I made this video a couple years ago. I think the slow was due to covid delays at that time!
They don't have it's all version then I suppose a medium is what you would have to look at and that seems like it would be too short for the sleeves. Maybe not a good option for you
What can you tell me about it's compatability? I'm looking for a parka/down jacket for resting static on a hike. Does it pack down good to rest on the top layer in my pack?
its a resilient coat but its not that warm! it has zero insulation in the shoulders so when its really cold, the cold sinks in through the shoulders and locks cold air in and around the shoulder blades, its a terrible design flaw and the only flaw that keeps it from being a top tier product.
I just checked and mine does have some on the shoulders, not as much but some. idk man, I just wore mine in -2F for 5 hours and I was totally okay. I did have a sweater on though I guess? What do you consider really cold out of curiosity?
@@GTMGunTotinMinnesotan Real feel temps of negative 5-20 are not uncommon in Kansas, (Dont believe me? feel free to give me your number and ill happily send screen shots of when it happens) lol. and i bought 2 of them coats, one online then one at the store, i even pointed out to a guy and his wife in the store that these coats have nothing in the shoulders and sometimes in the serious cold and winds that it feels worse having that coat on than my 10 year old zero exposure coat i got for 60 bucks at sams club lol, they checked it out and said wow... you are right! and put it back on the rail and moved on. so i traded in the parka for a 800 down fill jacket and the grid fleece hoodie thingy and that was a much better combo, i feel that ill probably go back to TNF or MH for the Serious coats, i always see EB as a almost unbeatable "Value" option. but not top tier. ive had much better from TNF, MH, FF's, RAB.
Mine are filled on the shoulders and shoulder blades. It feels thinner than on the torso, but it's there. Sorry, you just had some bad ones. Bought mine in 2019 for $150. With just a t-shirt on, I feel warm in single digit temperatures. Would definitely layer if it's negative temps. When on discount, price per warmth ratio is hard to pass up. Cheers!

The 90s EB Polar Parka were puffier than this generation and a big fashion item here in DC. EB stopped producing them sometime in the late 90s. One of the outer distinctions was the the gusset on the back. The last model "4 gentleman's " had the gusset on the front 2 bottom pockets aswell

To add: the fur on the older ones were coyote and later sheep before switching to synthetic
Yeah but i think they used a lower fill power down. They just used more of it. Also for the price it is unbeatable.
What’s the best size if I’m 5’11 135 skinnier dimensions and don’t want to look puffy with the coat?
Maybe a medium?
Small or medium but you will look puffy no matter the size. This is the way this parka is. It’s incredibly warm and on special, it’s a steal.
Got the same one for free as a gift I guess I’m lucky
