Hill Valley Sub! Love it!
Thanks, and thank you for watching!
Great video and much appreciated for the link to order the printed tools. I have yet to venture into 3D printing at home and that definitely saved me the step of having to source a vendor to do the printing for me.
Thank you! Please leave a comment and let me know if you get the tools and how they work for you! Thanks for being here!
Thank you for the tools and guide, can't wait to try them out on my layout.
You're welcome! Thanks for being here!
Thanks for this video. I'm beginning to create a layout for my dining room table, but I need it to be portable so I can take it up, store it and use the table for other things. It will have one intersection with the buildings branching out from all four corners. I decided that the best way to handle the buildings and all the extra stuff like benches, people, fire hydrants, etc. would be to create concrete islands (similar to what you have done in your video) and glue everything to that island. Then, when I lift the island to store it, everything comes with it at one time. Other building like factories will sit on the surface as most of their objects are glued to the loading docks. I will also do similar islands for groups of trees to place on my layout, grab one tree on an island and the whole small forest will come with it to store. What I didn't know was HOW to accomplish this until you showed me how to do it and what thickness of styrene to use. Thanks for the useful tips.
Hi Danny! I'm glad the video helped! It's a great idea to attach your buildings to removeable "islands". You may consider using a thicker styrene than I did. .03" Is pretty flexible. If you went up to .06", your curbs would be taller (almost 10 scale inches) but it would be much more rigid and durable. I'd love to hear how it works out! Thanks for watching!
@@hillvalleysubdivisionnscal708 Thanks, great suggestion. While surfing the internet, I came across board games and thought it might be possible to use Monopoly tokens as additions to store signs. For example: for a pet store a sign with a shelf above where the little dog is located. A top hat for the haberdasher shop. The boot for a shoe/cobbler store. Racecar for the toy store. And the horse and rider as a park statue.
Great technique I plan to use on my layout
I hope it works for you! Please post back with an update when you try it!
Great street work, looks good. Bob
Thank you Bob! I appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching!
Great video. I love the tool idea. I don’t have a 3d printer but I could handcraft something similar. I’ve done a similar removable approach for my blocks. I have a lots of lighting and so I drill holes through the base underneath and that approach let’s me manage it well. Thx for your work.
Thanks Randy!
I updated the video description with a link to the tools on Shapeways.com. they'll print them for you and ship them to you. Using your lighting to hold the blocks in place is a great idea!
Great ideas! Thanks!
You are so welcome!
Amazing tutorial thanks for sharing have you made a custom n scale Marty mcfly?
You're welcome! Thank you for watching! As for Marty... Not yet... Trying to figure out how to pull that off. I do have the Delorean however :)
Hello... I've come across your excellent N scale street video. It is exactly what I'm looking for. Since it is an older video, it seems the link to purchasing your street template tools does no longer work. Are you still in the hobby, and do you still still sell the templates? Sadly, I cannot afford a 3D printer and templates look like the perfect tools. I hope you are still monitoring your channel. STU
Hello there. I'm still in the hobby, but unfortunately the on-demand printing service I was using (Shapeways) has gone out of business. I'm currently looking for an alternative.
Thanks for taking the time to reply... I've looked at several ways to easily do the streets and think your system is the cat's pajamas. Hope you're successful in finding a new source. Take care and roll on.
Thank You !!
Thank you for watching!
Great video. Where can I find the stl files for the tools?
Hi there, sorry for the slow response. The stl files can be downloaded here:

Good luck! It'd be great if you'd come back and leave a comment letting me know how they worked for you.
hello... just watched this video great job with the tools...i just subbed to your channel... i am an N scaler tat does lots of scratch builds...i was wondering since i don't have a printer would you be willing to sell me a set??? i would suggest to complete your streets to cue a product by Highways & Byways...their street graphics are awesome & to scale....here's what's in the kit ...yellow & white strips...direction arrows...stop...yield... they are not expensive... cool video thx 4 sharing... vinny
Hi Vinny!
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. I have been painting stripes on roads on other parts of the layout. Those graphics might help a ton.
I've uploaded the sidewalk tools to shapeways, a site that 3D prints on demand and ships right to you. You can order a set from them at:

Thanks!!!
Impressive! Where does your courthouse come from?
Hi Jerry, I got the courthouse from Marc at 1one60Mo3dls on Etsy. Marc has actually modeled all of the buildings from downtown Hill Valley. He's great to deal with!

This isn't N scale. I don't get it.
Yep, it's N scale.
