Ultimate Tehachapi Pass and Tehachapi is my favorite Railfan Location of All time I love watching your UA-cam videos on Your UA-cam Channel Railfan Junction 💗💗💗🤘🤘🤘💯💯
I'm from western NY Tehachapi is one of my dream railfaning places to go someday I hope I get too and it's videos like this that makes me want to go there more and more awesome trains beautiful scenery awesome video. Railfan Junction 2 thumbs up 👍 👌
Wow... you captured what I had envisioned... I had a crap telephoto that I wished I could capture them going through Caliente while standing all the way by tunnel 5.
At the 1hr 27m mark, where is that please, and is there a balloon loop ? It looked like the locos and the car did a complete 180deg change of direction.
That's a siding called Ansel where UP stores coal trains that go up the Lone Pine branch for the power plant at Argus. No loop there, the engines just were oriented so that they were facing the correct way in both directions.
First... this is a great video. I made one too from this location at tunnel five a few years ago. Since then I was told that this spot is on private property, and when I drove away a few hours later it was just in time to see a couple cop cars coming from the opposite direction when leaving the area (I had made it on to the main road by this time), didn't know if they were headed that way to check on a possible trespasser situation. Anyway... a word of caution to anyone else thinking of checking out this spot. It might not be all that legit. That said... love anything Tehachapi. If you can shed light on whether or not this is the case (regarding the possible tresspassing), I'd really appreciate it, because after seeing this spot in person I've very much have wanted to go back ever since.
I appreciate the word of caution! I drove by a parked set of maintenance workers both times I drove up there and didn't get any flak for being up at the tunnel but its legality is definitely dubious, there's at least no "no trespassing" signs along the ROW and I've never been yelled at for being back past Tunnel 3 in the 15+ years I've been going up there.
youre literally in the middle of nowhere, dont spend what precious time you have on this earth worrying about such things. Enjoy that you are free and out of the big city, cheers.
Most of BNSF's intermodal traffic is - though their manifests on this line typically terminate in Barstow. UP's traffic is mostly north-south save for occasional trains that take the east leg of the wye in Colton to head east. There used to be an intermodal train from Dallas to Tacoma that would run every week or so but I think it's been annulled.
It's all good! I primarily railfan for my own enjoyment and being successful is secondary to having fun, so videos being successful and well-watched is just an added bonus ^^

Yep! There's a number of beehives around the pass.

Morning Jeff! You still hunting or ready to transition to habitat work?
??
What kind of engine is SJVR 3001, it looks like a mix between a Geep and a 70ACE, with a GE dash 8 standard, cab .
It's a Progress Rail PR30B - one of the last units delivered in the RailAmerica scheme about a decade ago.
Nice to see some green in the landscape. Btw- is most of this traffic on the transcontinental Los Angeles - Chicago main line?
I meant is this traffic between LA and Chicago or other, shorter runs?

The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954
They still do from the cab!

Funny, got many many view and only 476 thumbs up. Shameful. Put all this together and little reward by viewers. Must be a lot of cell watching
