- Continuing the series focused on the brilliance of Jack Dangers, I discuss “Satyricon”, “Edge Of No Control”, “Mindstream”, and remixes from Orbital, Aphex Twin, D.H.S./Ben Stokes, and Consolidated. Andy why not throw in John Carpenter, Dan O'Bannon and "Dark Star" for good measure??
That album stirs up a lot of memories for me, most of them euphoric, and every time I put it on I have to listen to it all the way through. Another great one. Thanks for the video.
Same here, it’s tough to just listen to parts of it, it all flows.
I went back to listened to Meat Beat. It has been quite a while.
The production on this album stands above any album I can think of. It's the most layered landscape of sound ever produced. The bass on Drop knocked me sideways. I heard it the first time on CD on an old Pioneer stereo with giant 80s speakers and it rattled the neighborhood. Also this album demands to be listened to in its entirety front to back in order on the CD version, not the vinyl. I don't like the vinyl track order. The vinyl release was pretty lackluster as you pointed out. I always considered it a concept album. Haha Dark Star. So awesome. A lot of those samples are also from the movie Head by The Monkees. Awesometown. Love that Mindstream single album. Those mixes are fantastic. I saw them in LA in 2019, and the bass still rattles the neighborhood. Mark Pistol from Consolidated mixes the live shows typically. And I love that Jack and Ben Stokes (DHS) are MBM now. It's cool seeing Jack Dangers, Ben Stokes and Mark Pistol together at shows. They are very approachable. HOLY SHIT you quoted Alien Sex Fiend. Good stuff.
If you were listening to electronic music in the mid 90's chances are your record collection is great, i never stopped buying vinyl because a lot of the music from my favorite producers was only released on vinyl.
Satyricon changed my life - opened my mind and ears up really coincided with my artistic awakening.
I swear you have all the albums I did when I was 18, and still love.
Keep it going mate.
Skinny Puppy up any time soon?
Tim Buckley? Jeff Buckley's father. An amazing artist in his own right.
No Means No was 'stonchly left' as well. Saw them in '91
I agree, get into the tech side of the music industry eating themselves with digital, to rewrite contracts to reduce royalties to artists in new formats.
Hey, we just have exalted tastes, right? Yep, more Skinny Puppy on the way, I’m basically gonna cover the early albums up to “Rabies” which I’ve already done. I’m gonna pull out my Front 242 as well, along with other industrial dance oddities.
@@occasionalfeelgood23 Sweet! Ya Front242 was an OG as well for the industrial stuff and so underground in the early years of the '90s.
I did an edit and added a couple other names you may know bud.
@@occasionalfeelgood23 SP beyond Rabies I didn't gel with as much as the Rabies album. It was seriously hard for the time.
Some of the colab bands of uncle Al are good as well. Of course a lot of bands owe a lot to him, but a lot owe a leg up because of his openness to work with anyone and just do it for the music.
@@thethree60five Not a Buckley fan (only because I never bothered to listen), but definitely like Nomeansno. I also saw them in 1991 with Jello Biafra in tow. That reminds me, I plan on doing a Lard video.
Soul Driver holy shit what a tune. Dude, based on your Meat Beat videos I feel we could def hange.
Nice overview of MBM, which i've heard a lot about over the years but never listened or dove in. Still figuring out where to start, but listened to that recent comp of singles lp you started off with and liked it.
That’s great! Jack sounds different with each album so it’s kinda hard to recommend a starting point. I’d recommend just starting at the beginning and going chronologically from there. He’s one talented S.O.B.!
Aphex's mix of Mindstream seems to be in a Polygon Window style to me. Love it!
Hell yeah! The Aphex remix is so great here. And "Surfing On Sine Waves" is my favorite Aphex album, hands down.
@@occasionalfeelgood23 Good call man!
Satyricon is my favourite album of all time. It blew my mind on many occasions and still does to this day. The cd album is the version to own. Sadly the vinyl album doesn't flow as well and misses tracks. I do feel Jonny Stephens really added to the sound and production on this album which is why it sounds the way it does. An album I can truly claim is perfect.
Satyracon was my 1st cd I ever bought and after that New Order Republic then skinny puppy, ministry, einsterzende neubauten, front line assembly, and the rest was history lol I have all that music backed up in triplicate- 🤩🤘
The Communion tour they did in 92’ with Orbital and Ultra Marine was probably one of the most memorable shows of my youth. My musical tastes changed permanently walking out of that show.
Oh yeah, forgot about that tour! What a line up that was.
wow.. i need that mindstream remixes 12" in my life.. i have SO much aphex twin, but still missing some gems.. and DHS? hell yeah do a video about him! i only have the House Of God double 12" on R&S + two remix 12"es and the Mind Control 12" .. i always wanted more, but some DHS records are very hard to get in germany and / or expensive... oh yeah.. and i got a DVD "Tino Vision".. if you dont have it, go and buy it.. according to the discogs entry, the MBM track fromage is an exclusive version.. cheers man!
Thanks, man! That Mindstream remix 12" is essential, some of the best remixes of the 90s in the humble opinion. And I have Tino Vision. I'm gonna show off some cool rarities in my DHS video for sure!
@@occasionalfeelgood23 very looking forward to the video, man! :D oh and i just found out, Meat Beat & DHS released a brandnew EP called Man From Mantis.. release date was june 9th! go grab it! :)
The beach ball!!
Haha. The scariest monster in movie history.
Not just ASF did "Zombified'",
Ronnie Radke and his band Falling in Reverse do a good song called Zombiefied, same message, for new artists.
Bad Religion on deck?
OLD Dinosaur Jr.?
Saw Killing Joke - Money is not our god
Pylon was inspirational for something newer. Also a good old time vibe in the vein of lefty rage - I am the Virus.
Hard to find the other fans. Please some one reply to this.
Haha, like I said on another post, a girlfriend and I spent thanksgiving 1992 F-ed up listening to this LP !!
If only I could be 22 again,
I know, right? These albums sound just as good today as they did then.
@@occasionalfeelgood23 They most certainly do !!! So much of this type of music, and alternative rock in general, is very timeless sounding.
