You have explained and illustrated visually FPP better than anyone else I've seen! Thank you for taking the time to do these videos which take so much time & effort! I'm excited to try this now! :)
One of the things so great about quilting and really crafters/creatives in general is that there are many ways to achieve the same result. Thank you for showing that no special tools are required (but they're fun if you have them) in order accomplish construction of the block!
Just found your channel and subscribed. I loved your last tutorial, which was #8, lol. I am a newbie quilter, with only 4 quilts under my belt, so I know nothing about this technique, but couldn't you somehow copy those lines onto the back of the paper also or what about using a lighter weight paper that can be seen through? I assume you use paper for this block to keep it from going wonky instead of just sewing the pieces together? I think I might try coming along for this journey. Thanks for all the work and effort you put into this series!!!
Glad you are here! FPP is a technique that is used most often for blocks that can't be just sewn together. However, you can use the FPP technique on almost any block. Here I used it because the 'logs' we not an even measurement so they wouldn't have been easy to cut out. I don't think lines on both side of the paper would help too much because the fabric covers the one side. I made up the technique of folding the fabric back and creasing it where the line is and I think it works wonderfully.
@@jessica_dayonThank you for answering, I know it's a lot to keep up with!!! One more and I promise I will leave you alone! I finally decided what to do about fabric because I don't have enough scraps accumulated yet to do a scrappy with y'all, I'm going for a springy looking quilt, so it's a toss up between Lori Holts Bee Ginghams or a mix of a couple of Corey Yoder's lines. Since you know all the block sizes what size fabric would be the largest I'd need, so I will know what I can get away with ordering, lol, as I'm trying to do this on the cheap (as I can anyway) 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you again!
@@littleluluscraps Great! Both of those will look beautiful. I'm sorry though, I can't give you an amount to order. I'm making the blocks along with the quilt along (only a day or two ahead so I can film the videos). My best advice is to start with a fat quarter bundle and then keep in mind you might have to add to it...choose a fabric bundle that you can get more of or one that you'd be happy adding coordinating prints too if you needed more.
@@jessica_dayon Thanks, I so wish you could see the chart I made out of the stuff I printed from your blog where I mapped everything out, glued the little thumbnails into the empty block spaces, etc. So, I just went out today and bought (18) 1/2 yard pieces and 4-1/2 yards of white on white patterns 🤣 I told the lady at the fabric store that I was doing your scrappy quilt along and she looked up and started laughing she was like "so your buying all your 1/2 yard scraps?!?!" I explained that I was newbie and had hardly any scraps, she said "well, you will after this!" 😅🤣
@@littleluluscraps I love it! That sounds perfect! HAHA! I've been quilting for 5 years and sometimes I still buy for scrappy 😆 mostly because its fun to buy fabric!
Your printer maybe be automatically scaling the print out incorrectly. You might have to play with it on your own printer to get it to come out correctly. However, the block does measure 8.5” from dotted edge to dotted edge and many other have made it successfully. Good luck!
@@jessica_dayon I figured it out. For anyone having a sizing problem turn off print to fit. The center square was shrinking by 1/8". Finally! Thanks for your help Jessica. I am teaching myself new quilting methods by following along Scrappy Sampler 2023!

The block is only 8.25'' along the dotted outside edge.

Does anyone know if these come pre-printed?
No, I don’t have an option to buy the preprinted papers this time. Maybe next quilt along.
Not trying to be rude or anything, but wouldn't it be easier if you sewed it kind of like a log cabin? just my thoughts.
It’s just a completely different block. There are log cabins and also courthouse steps. This is a courthouse step block.
