Erica if visually messes bother you consider getting a chest of drawers you could arrange it in the closet I think it would be easier for you. I've seen you rearrange the closet several times so maybe that would be helpful for you. Just a suggestion. As my father would say blessings on you!! Pam
100% every time I watch a closet declutter I think why isn't there a chest of drawers or dresser? So much easier for small items and floppy or slippery items like athletic wear, pyjamas and swimwear.
I immediately thought of these two too! And as soon as you have the new capri, throw out the old one. There is no use in fixing it, if it ripped that much the fabric is just done..
For your favorite capris, It is actually cool to patch them. My daughter does it all the time and everyone loves the look. She does a practice of sashiko. It is very sustainable and intentional. 💝
Maybe put a hook(s) on the wall for your two necklaces. I love the box your husband gave you. You could use that for your necklaces, if you’re afraid of them getting tangled, put each in a small craft ziplock or tissue. You are doing a great job!
I’ve deconstructed pants to make a pattern to make a new pair. Some with bigger pockets, some with an elastic waistband or a big patch and then a quick flower embroidered on for a nighttime project. I’ve also used old nail polish to “paint” on the patches! Fun!
If you love, love, love the capris, I'd find some small scraps of fabric - different one for each hole plus a few more scattered around just for fun. Then wear them out!!
Today I bought two nice cardigans in good colors for me that fit me well. I used to wear cardigans a lot but since retiring I don't wear them too much but need to have a couple. I thought I'd bring them home and discard two or more that I wasn't wearing, were worn out, bad colors etc. Well, I have two lovely new cardigans in a modern style, light pink and camel and in a bag in my trunk I have 15 that I am taking to charity. I feel so good. I kept only a couple old ones because of the colors but I'm ready to watch this video now for more inspiration.
This is what drawers are for--to contain items neatly and to keep things out of sight. I have a big low dresser, husband uses one side and I use the other. I keep socks/underwear/pajamas in top, shirts in middle, and bottoms in the bottom. I use shoe boxes in the top to separate categories. It's so easy and logical that there's no need for labels. Also, Erica, I predict that you will quickly tire of having to pull out the bin, lift the lid, and find what you want. Since you're renting it's not straightforward to remove closet shelving and put a dresser there, but maybe you could swap the dresser in your room for one with different dimensions?
I’d patch them up and give them a bit longer to live. Blanket stitch around a patch looks lovely. Went and did my drawers after watching this video. Thank you💕💕💕
Looks great 💐 Didn’t see how many long johns you have but if just a couple of pairs I would put the socks in on top of them then your socks are in a bin. Have a great day💐
You could repurpose the silk from your pajamas that was gifted by your husband. Maybe use the fabric and sew jewelry pouches to keep your special pieces ❤
That sounds like a fantasy self idea…everything “could” be something else but it’s important to be realistic about what you have time and bandwidth to do.
I’ve always been confused about the bin of things that have been worn once. If they’re still clean enough to wear, why not hang/fold them back up and put them away in their original spots? An extra spot to store clothes seems redundant.
I took three pieces of fabric and braided them together into a circle. And then I hung it from a hook on my wall around my hat, and so my hat hangs up and it looks nice.
Erica you look so adorable in your hats ❤ I don’t like silk on my skin either, I can’t imagine sleeping on silk sheets Try searching on the thrifting on line sites for your capri’s like posh mark ,I have had luck finding things that I wanted to replace on those sites
Concerning the capris, if you enjoy mending or patching clothes, keep them. If that isn’t your style, then you may want to take a special picture of them or save a piece of the cloth for a sewing project. At the point they are at they are going to constantly be getting new holes.
Yes, I've done this with clothes my son couldn't bear to get rid of when he was little. I turned tshirts into cushions and the like. I've also saved patches of fabric from my own clothes and used them for different projects.
Those white bins I think are a little too tight for those shelf spaces, fine if you're not really needing them right now, but a pain if you need to keep pulling them down. I don't own pajamas, I find that I always reach for comfy joggers and a t shirt, that has the added bonus of feeling put together if I need to run out the door for any reason (it happens more often than I'd like unfortunately!)
Let the capris go you deserve to look good even when you’re cleaning.put the small purses inside the big one to help keep the shape of the large tote stand your bins up on the second shelf and put the ball caps under the big hats and stack them put your necklaces in your bedside drawer hope this helps😊
LOL your favorite jean pants reminded me of a pair of shoes so comfy but just couldn’t let them go and one day at the beach I had them on and got the courage to toss them into the waves 😮 Some things we have is very hard to let go of! You will find the right time to let them go and OK for now to put them in your closet. Loved the video and thanks for sharing a normal day of this is a way you declutter ❤
I had to get rid of my favorite pair of jean capris last Summer. I had repaired multiple times and finally just couldn’t anymore. It was hard and I missed them this last Summer, but it’s ok. 😒
Have you considered hanging most of the items? It appears you have a lot of hanging space. I hang all my nightwear, swimwear, shorts and pants, along with my tops and dresses. Everything looks nicer than jumbled on a shelf. I always enjoy your videos and the way you talk through your decisions.
I also hang all my clothes by category. What I am currently wearing is in the middle. Going right-bottoms grouped together by type, next pajamas. I live in four seasons, so I have everything from babydolls to flannels. 2 for each season. Next dresses in garment bags, finally random. Going left are tops by sleeve length depending on which season we are in. Next sweaters. Next, Any top I am not currently wearing but want to keep, finally jackets. I have a dresser which is wear I stash accessories, jewelry and memorabilia. The top two small drawers contain socks on left, undies, bras and random stuff on right. That just works for me. I will pack up summer clothing and put in a bin on closet shelf. Keep at it!
@ Me too. I live in a four season area. I’m pretty minimalist so all my clothes fit on a five foot rod. I have one box for my undies on the shelf above the rod. I have one dresser drawer for socks, bras, purses and accessories. One small drawer for jewelry.
Hi Erica, happy holidays! Suggestion: "S" hooks from the hardware store are great for hsnging purses from the "grates" of your shelves. You can hang them at the back of low shelves so it doesn't interfere with other things. For your fave J Jill capris: have you checked Poshmark, Mercari, or ThredUp?
I love when you process decluttering with us. It helps so much to see your thought process. I left a message late on your previous video and I don't know if you see them after the fact. Would you do a video or post on toys and books that you found beneficial and had play value. I am so sick of plastic toys that the kids lose interest in so quickly. You have a nice assortment of games that I think would be good gifts; I have 5 and 7 year old grandchildren. Thank you!!
The Jean capris can be patched from the inside. Get a light cloth colored if you want to show off the holes or whites if you do not. Turn the pants inside out and sew the patch to the inside. The best place to sew the patch to is the seam on each side of the pant leg. Remember if you use a patterned cloth if you want it to show through sew it upside down. So it shows through the whole when you turn your pants back out the right way.
Just a thought, you could treat yourself by taking down the shelves and replace them with drawers . My closet is completely open to my living space with wire drawers so I can see everything while it being tidy and contained.
If you don't want to let the ripped pants go you should try sashiko mending (Japanese technique) which is very pretty. One of my friends mends all her pants like this and it it great because you pick the colours. 😁
I had not seen you for a while. you look great. I would keep the capri and sew some cloth on the inside. you can get some remnants from cloth stores; or any thing you no longer use and like, cut squares and sew them on.
10:15 Yes! Treat yourself to new pajamas and underwear often! I actually wear an extra large men’s white “cotton” T-shirts ( v-neck) to sleep in and throw on a pair of lingerie wear pants on when I wake up. I buy new ones t-shirts often when they wear out or get stained. A 6 pack of men’s t-shirts games or fruit of the loom is so much cheaper than an omens t-shirts and cotton is a good material to sleep in.
I mend our jeans but it doesn't make them stylish. :) if you love it and it makes you feel good, keep them. But if you're uncomfortable because of the rips, work on getting replacements. Xx
for your J Jill capri pants - have you tried to find a replacement on Thread-Up or Poshmark? Or Vinted? Good luck!! I found a paid of dark denim jeans at Target this year that were just perfect... I bought 2 pairs!!
Erica, great tiny tidy of your closet space. Personally, I really think you should let go of the capri pants, really they are so shredded and don’t look nice. Socks are used every day and should really be in a more accessible place, so maybe hang your husband’s boot camp shirt and put a bin in that space for your socks.
Say goodbye to the capri pants. You are worth more than wearing something that is sooo worn out. The wear outweighs the fit and believe me, no matter how good you feel in them, I'm sure that they are so thin they'll continue to rip. You can also treat yourself to some new capri pants when you shop for new pj's
I would thank the capris for their service to you and throw them out. I have hanging space so I hang almost everything but underwear. I don’t wear pajamas so I even hang my sleep shirts!❣️🎄🎁
I appreciate that you were trying to use the bins you already had, but I really don't think they will work for you... You seem like a visual person, and those bins can't be seen through, and have lids, AND only just fit into the shelf, which makes them annoying to get in and out.
For the ripped jeans, you could put a large patch of durable material (a pretty pattern or color) on the inside of the leg so that's what's visible instead of skin. More fun than a big patch on the outside.
I have some black jeans that were expensive specifically because this was part of their design - pre-ripped and then plaid patched in behind. They look awesome.
What about sewing a legging-material patch on the inside of the jeans, in either a skin-like tone, matching the jeans, or a fun contrast color? That way you get the aesthetically cool rip but it's not bothering you when you're wearing it (or getting your foot stuck when you're trying to put them on). I bought a "stylish" pair of black jeans that came pre-ripped and I love the look and fit but am also driven crazy by the holes. I almost always wear sport leggings under them...
hello! your decluttering process always inspires me ❤ thank you! for the capris, you could patch them underneath: i mean, sewing the rips ONTO a piece of fabric, so they'll show that instead of skin, and the tearing will stop and not be as prominent as now. this goes if you prefer a ripped (but not revealing😉) style instead of 'external' patches! i hope the explanation makes sense 😊 wishing you well from italy - i wrote before reading the other comments, only now i've read the same suggestion better worded by someone else, and some other nice ideas peace, love & joy ❤
The capricorn is worn out. Even if you patch them up, they will rip around the patch. The fabric is so thin. In the USA, there is a company called ThredUp. They may have this capris. They have so much! It I a rent/subscription with quality thrifted clotes. If you get something you love you buy it cheap. I do not know anything more than this. We don't have it in Norway. But you can look it up. 😊
Love your video! Have you thought about not having kids on the bins? I have seen a lot of your videos and I don’t see you as the person who gets those out take kids off and on and put everything back nicely. They seem a bit tall for the shelves that you can’t just reach in and grab. Maybe it will work for you! I wish you the best!
I absolutely love watching you clean. it's so inspiring. I did a huge go through of my apartment, and I'm having a yard sale this weekend. ❤ love when you put on the hat and smiled 😊 that made my day, and I needed it ❤
Hi there sweetie pie hope you are well I agree with Pam if a set of draws can go in there it probably work better and also visually look better love from Eugenie your friend xxx 💓🦋🌞
Capri jeans, if you love them that much, you're not ready to thank them for their service and let go just yet. I would question why you can't let go - is it just the fit or is it something else like a particular good memory etc? Work through it. If it is just the fit, and I can't fix them, I would get some black - we call them tights here in the UK - or thin black leggings to wear underneath., and decide if they look good enough to wear outside, or just wear them around the house.
Get rid of the disgusting Capris; you are better than that! Torn pants are for teenagers, not for grown women. Fold the Pj's tops into their matching bottoms, and keep them in one bin. Use the other bin for your socks. What are period undies? I never use those. You own too many undies! Please trash the ones that are stained, or have holes in them, or are two small, too worn, or undignified. Go over your socks and declutter the old ones, too. You'll love your closet once all the old stuff is gone.
The capris have done their time and deserve a respectful declutter 😊
Agreed. You’ve gotten your use out of them, time to say goodbye and don’t look back.
You could put some lace behind the big hole, otherwise declutter.
If you stack the two large hats, you can put the jewellery on the top shelf and your socks where the jewellery is.
Exactly my thought!
Erica if visually messes bother you consider getting a chest of drawers you could arrange it in the closet I think it would be easier for you. I've seen you rearrange the closet several times so maybe that would be helpful for you. Just a suggestion. As my father would say blessings on you!! Pam
Oh that’s a good idea! Or decorative baskets maybe? I notice if I make it pretty it stays neater!
Ikea dressers take up the least room with the maximum amount of space in the drawers.
Yes baskets!
100% every time I watch a closet declutter I think why isn't there a chest of drawers or dresser? So much easier for small items and floppy or slippery items like athletic wear, pyjamas and swimwear.
I would go on poshmark and try and find the sane ones!!! ❤❤❤
Or ThredUp
I immediately thought of these two too!
And as soon as you have the new capri, throw out the old one.
There is no use in fixing it, if it ripped that much the fabric is just done..
For your favorite capris, It is actually cool to patch them. My daughter does it all the time and everyone loves the look. She does a practice of sashiko. It is very sustainable and intentional. 💝

You should put the box for long johns either up high or low since you don't access them often. Socks are every day and need to be more accessible.
If you love, love, love the capris, I'd find some small scraps of fabric - different one for each hole plus a few more scattered around just for fun. Then wear them out!!
Let the ripped pants go. I'm sure you have other pants you can clean in. Permission granted.
I always enjoy your videos. Your the real deal!
Thank you! It is very motivating for me to see how you go through your everyday decluttering process.
That sun hat with the bow looks so cute on you! You have such beautiful hair ❤️. Thanks for keeping me company with your videos.
Girl, you just made me laugh so hard when you said “you know it’s time to clean or declutter when the hair goes up”. I’m the same way.
Today I bought two nice cardigans in good colors for me that fit me well. I used to wear cardigans a lot but since retiring I don't wear them too much but need to have a couple. Ditch the pants! They’ve had their day 😊
If you flip the 3 green bins it would look even more organized. ❤
I’d patch them up and give them a bit longer to live. Blanket stitch around a patch looks lovely. Went and did my drawers after watching this video. Thank you💕💕💕
Embroider patches with flowers and keep on wearing them! Also you can have a pattern made from them and have them remade by a seamstress.
I would patch them. There's a fun Japanese technique for patching and stitching denim called sashiko that you might want to look into.
Sure! Stitch 'em up since You Know How. Yay🎉 They Fit. You like 'em. Do it! 😊
Looks great 💐 Didn’t see how many long johns you have but if just a couple of pairs I would put the socks in on top of them then your socks are in a bin. Have a great day💐
Good job! Those capris have seen their better days! But, keep them till you’re ready to get rid of them. Nice surprise of a video today.💐
You could repurpose the silk from your pajamas that was gifted by your husband. Maybe use the fabric and sew jewelry pouches to keep your special pieces ❤

I would try sewing up the hole one time. Give it a try, then if not , say good bye. 😊 I like this kind of video. Great job.
I agree. I have a 3 strikes and it's out rule. She's already had to do a couple of fixes so 1 final mend is worth it for a favourite clothing item.
Great job Erica. It looks so nice after decluttering.
Hey, the Joyspun brand from Walmart has some great jammies. They are size inclusive and very affordable.
I have some, they wear well, wash and dry well.
Erica you look so adorable in your hats ❤
I don’t like silk on my skin either, I can’t imagine sleeping on silk sheets

Erica, have you checked ThredUp or EBay for the beloved capris?
The hair and hat was really giving off “Anne vibes” and I’m here for it.
Erica, I like the hat. You look great in it. ❤❤❤
I’d suggest replacing the wire shelves and bins with drawers and a few solid shelves.
Great job!! Organizing my closet makes my heart happy. ❤

the cute thing now is stitched/embroidered flowers/leaves on the jeans
Very nicely organized!
I had to get rid of my favorite pair of jean capris last Summer. I had repaired multiple times and finally just couldn’t anymore. It was hard and I missed them this last Summer, but it’s ok. 😒
I would parch them with a floral or polka dot fabric and keep wearing those capris!
@ Me too. I live in a four season area. I’m pretty minimalist so all my clothes fit on a five foot rod. I have one box for my undies on the shelf above the rod. I have one dresser drawer for socks, bras, purses and accessories. One small drawer for jewelry.

Macys has some incredibly soft Tommy Hillfiger capris. So comfortable.
I love when you process decluttering with us. It helps so much to see your thought process. I left a message late on your previous video and I don't know if you see them after the fact. One idea for old white tops, maybe: use them for a chemistry lesson: dye them with the kids, have fun while turning it educational.
If they are unevenly white, they take the dye unevenly as well. So underarms darker, etc.
@Dashzap one more thing for kids to observe, right?

The capris are past time to throw out.

Patch the capris with cute fabric under the holes so it's more of a peekaboo feature.
love this
I had not seen you for a while. you look great.
Love the hat💕
Haven't finished the video yet, so don't know if you do this. Could your special nan's necklace find a home in your special copper jewellery box?
Girl, POSHMARK THOSE PANTS!!! To buy, I mean. I get all of my favorite discontinued brands and styles on Poshmark. Sustainable, too!!!
Put the silk pjs on poshmark too
So you have your Carly Simon hat and your Anne of Green Gables hat 👍🏼
Yes to patches ❤. I love seeing patchwork stuff. Just make them cute, not utilitarian looking patches.
Toss the capris!
You are mature. Toss them.
You could patch from the inside with a darker color. I have seen that as a trend, too.
I mend our jeans but it doesn't make them stylish. :) if you love it and it makes you feel good, keep them. But if you're uncomfortable because of the rips, work on getting replacements. Xx
I'd sew them up with bright fabric and wear them around the house
for your J Jill capri pants - have you tried to find a replacement on Thread-Up or Poshmark? Or Vinted? Good luck!! I found a paid of dark denim jeans at Target this year that were just perfect... I bought 2 pairs!!
Keep those capris as work pants. Patch them if you want and wear them at home to work.
You could use the iron on stuff to attach the pretty fabric so you wouldn't need to sew.
I have some black jeans that were expensive specifically because this was part of their design - pre-ripped and then plaid patched in behind. They look awesome.
Maybe check thread up or poshmark etc for the j jill capris to replace? Just a thought
🎉🎉 cut the capris into a pair of shorts…❤
It might be the wrong season for capris. Check the website again in the spring!
Turn the capris into gardening pants and add a flower patch?
Make the Capri pants into shorts. Also yours should be long Jane’s
hello! your decluttering process always inspires me ❤ thank you!
for the capris, you could patch them underneath: i mean, sewing the rips ONTO a piece of fabric, so they'll show that instead of skin, and the tearing will stop and not be as prominent as now. this goes if you prefer a ripped (but not revealing😉) style instead of 'external' patches! i hope the explanation makes sense 😊
wishing you well from italy

i wrote before reading the other comments, only now i've read the same suggestion better worded by someone else, and some other nice ideas
peace, love & joy ❤
you could turn the jeans into shorts/cutoffs
You could wear some calf length leggings under your favorite capris? Not so great for super hot days but could work sometimes?
The capricorn is worn out. Even if you patch them up, they will rip around the patch. The fabric is so thin.
In the USA, there is a company called ThredUp. They may have this capris. They have so much!
It I a rent/subscription with quality thrifted clotes.
If you get something you love you buy it cheap.
I do not know anything more than this. We don't have it in Norway. But you can look it up. 😊
Put the summer up high w hats on top. You don’t need that stuff, right?
Love your video! Have you thought about not having kids on the bins? I have seen a lot of your videos and I don’t see you as the person who gets those out take kids off and on and put everything back nicely. They seem a bit tall for the shelves that you can’t just reach in and grab. Maybe it will work for you! I wish you the best!
Socks could share the period underwear bin. Thanks for being real in all your videos. God bless you!
Go Phillies! Can your capris be cut down to shorts?
I absolutely love watching you clean. it's so inspiring. I did a huge go through of my apartment, and I'm having a yard sale this weekend. ❤ love when you put on the hat and smiled 😊 that made my day, and I needed it ❤
Cut off the capris for shorts and add them to your summer bin.
9:21 - I'd give myself 2 weeks - if they are not patched they go (if they are important they are patched). OR gone today.
Pitch the capris ' !!
Hi there sweetie pie hope you are well I agree with Pam if a set of draws can go in there it probably work better and also visually look better love from Eugenie your friend xxx 💓🦋🌞
👍
Look for the pants on poshmark. Or thread up
❤❤❤❤
Got to ask is that the original label maker that you were always losing?😊
Capri jeans, if you love them that much, you're not ready to thank them for their service and let go just yet. I would question why you can't let go - is it just the fit or is it something else like a particular good memory etc? Work through it.
If it is just the fit, and I can't fix them, I would get some black - we call them tights here in the UK - or thin black leggings to wear underneath., and decide if they look good enough to wear outside, or just wear them around the house.
I would check on Ebay to see if someone is selling those j jill jeans
I would keep the capris and patch em. Patches will be back in style soon enough💕💕💕
You can patch your pants from the inside and keep the look of holes....
Maybe a stupid question, but what is a concert purse?
At most concert venues your purse has to be clear or it’s not allowed in. Safety reasons.
@hayleechapman1218 oh, that makes sense. Hopefully it is actually helping.
