- This video describes the basics of how the Freshwater Institute raises Atlantic Salmon in land-based water recirculating aquaculture systems as part of their research developing and refining sustainable aquaculture production technologies. www.conservationfund.org/our-....
The Freshwater Institute is an internationally recognized program of The Conservation Fund. For more than two decades, we have been one of the nation’s premier research and development facilities dedicated to sustainable water use and reuse.
As part of the The Conservation Fund, the Freshwater Institute embraces its dual-purpose mission to promote economic development and environmental protection. We focus on water as a natural resource asset important to ecological function, cultural heritage and economic opportunity.
From our campus in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, we combine applied research, engineering and economic development skills to show how freshwater resources achieve economic and environmental goals.
We work with government, industry, nonprofits and individuals to shape sustainable, environmentally responsible solutions to water resource management. Our team is known for academic productivity, professional leadership and consulting creativity.
Awesome... This method will be implemented in Hampton court palace canal... i'm the best dreamer ever exist in this world...🌐🇬🇧❤️
amazing, but with all the complexity are you making profit out of it. ?
Nice video. How do you exactly estimate the 50% hatch? Could you explain it? Is it Manually?
What is the quality of the meat compared to the natural environment? Is it the same quality of meat
What does "purge" mean in the finishing tank? Also, since these are farm raised, do they lack the mercury that a wild salmon would have from bioaccumulation? Also, do any of these salmon wind up with parasites?
The mercury content of the fish depends on the mercury content of the feed you give them.
Purge here means the fish are not fed and allowed to pass out all remaining feacal matter in the guts, so its taste is not impacted.
very detailed... but what are the 'best practices' - that was not covered. (Only asking, as I know this answer will vary to whom one may ask)
* can you do this with Sockeye salmon? King of fish.
beat them on the head
Do all stages use freshwater?
Unlikely. They are usually transferred to saltwater tanks to finish smolt for about 3 weeks. Then returned to freshwater for sales.
From the video it would seem as though they use only fresh water, odd for a saltwater fish.
