This is not my top 31 favorite comedies.
The lost of movies was selected by the group. Originally we picked a handful of comedy directors to make the list. But then we limited it to 3 films per director so we could add a bit more variety.
There’s more than 31 great comedies. So we couldn’t include them all.
I don't care. You placing Spaceballs at 30 out of 31 is an automatic dislike. I don't make the rules. ,:(
I respect the hell out of you but I struggle to even watch this video after where you put Spaceballs.
My Spaceballs hurt
Hey Sean what do you think about Superbad?
I love these videos and I love your videos sean
Remember comedy is subjective. People find different things funny. Let's try and respectful of everyone's opinion.
Yes and no. I would say what makes people laugh is subjective, but what makes a well structured and clever comedy can be scrutinized
@@SonOfZodthat’s a very good point
@@SonOfZodThere’s SO many examples of great art being near universally derided in its time though
+fiilmfankev
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Same comedy is super subjective
Really ripped my heart out with Spaceballs ⚰️
Same here. I am destroyed and heartbroken.
It's just not funny. I've tried so many times to watch it bc I'm a Star Wars fanatic but I just don't get it. I breathed some air through my air a few times maybe? But I didn't really laugh at anything
@@corycosta1818 I get it, it’s a really stupid movie, and, let’s face it, humor is subjective. So while I grew up watching it and laughing myself to tears, I can understand why you saw the same film and just sighed.
@@80sGeekChris-dg7ky when I first watched it it was insanely funny but it got less funny the more I watched it but that’s how it is for me for any movie
@@SSCPRedits Understandable, I mean, if you hear the same joke over and over again, will it be as funny as the first time you heard it?
There’s Something About Mary criminally low😔 one of the few movies that can make me laugh out loud
I love Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. probably my favourite comedy of all time
I’m kinda surprised In Bruges was included instead of Monty Python and the Holy Grail
I agree. Also where is Dodgeball?
Of this awesome list of comedies, here are my Top 10 Favorites:
10. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby-A terrific racecar comedy that mixes together a great ensemble cast with satire of American excess, which makes for a fantastic comedy from Will Ferrell
9. Happy Gilmore-Even though Adam Sandler gets dunked on for his comedies of the last fifteen years, this one never fails in delivering a great time in Sandler’s manchild antics through the sport of golf
8. Step Brothers-While I find this movie to be incredibly funny from beginning to end, I’ve always appreciated this one for its silly humor reinforcing the message of no matter how old you get, never lose your inner child, which I think is something this one doesn’t get enough credit for
7. National Lampoon’s Vacation-A consistently funny road trip comedy that balances the family friendly comedy of the hijinks of what’s going on while being able to have more edgy, adult comedy at the same time
6. Tropic Thunder-Even though this one’s a bit more extreme than a lot of the films on this list, none of that stops this movie from being a brilliant satire of the eccentricities and ruthlessness of Hollywood with self-aware humor, action shenanigans, and my favorite cameo of all time in the Les Grossman character
5. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles-No matter how many Thanksgivings go by, I’ll always hold this road trip film near and dear to my heart for its ability to be incredibly funny in its comedy, but also be very sentimental in ways I don’t think we see as often in storytelling of today
4. In Bruges-As a big fan of all four of Martin McDonagh’s films, this is my favorite of them as it’s able to blend together sharp McDonagh dialogue, profound themes of religion and morality, dark humor, and fantastic performances from Colin Farrell, Brenden Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes, which makes for an incredibly holistic experience of a film
3. Dumb and Dumber-An absolutely perfect mix of incredibly stupid humor written and delivered in the most clever of ways with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels’ chemistry elevating this film to be one of the funniest movies ever made
2. Spaceballs-Because of my love of Star Wars and science fiction, I’ve always loved and adored this movie for its jabs at various franchises in Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Transformers, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, which makes for the comedy I’ve probably rewatched the most times
1. Groundhog Day-An absolutely hilarious time loop comedy that has Bill Murray at his funniest, plenty of memorable moments and lines, a script that’s both cynical and sentimental at the same time, and an efficient runtime, which makes for one of my Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time
Vacation is a good one for sure.😏
good list. christmas vacation is better by a LONG shot imo tho
This is a great list. I feel like you and I are on the same wavelength. And I DO think that Vacation is superior to Christmas Vacation, although I really love that one as well.

Hot Fuzz is my second favourite movie of all time so obviously it’s my favourite comedy of all time
Where is "the other guys"? That's one of my all time fans. Super quotable and tons of laughs
My favourite Will Ferrel film and maybe my favourite comedy of all time. Unbelievably quotable. 👍👍
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a perfect comedy and yet one of few movies that gets me very close to crying every time I watch it. Perfect comedy with a ton of heart. Can't praise it enough. A staple for me and my family.
14:36 I fully expect Cody to repurpose this in a future video.
That'll be amazing.
Only one would dare give me the raspberry.
*Drops face shield, and voice drops 2 octaves*
Lonestar!
Finally somebody that agrees with me on Spaceballs!
It's a good time for what it is but I feel it's one of those movies where you remember it being good because of the moments you remember but not the actual movie.
Weird Science Spaceballs and Kingpin should be top 10
I’m distraught I love spaceballs
Spaceballs at 30!!!!! Madness
Of the 17 I’ve seen, I’d go:
17. The Cable Guy 5.5/10
16. Dumb and Dumber 6/10
15. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy 7.5/10
14. Zoolander 7.5/10
13. Airplane! 7.5/10, probably a hot take
12. Space Balls 7.5/10
11. National Lampoon’s Vacation 8/10
10. Stepbrothers 8/10
9. Tropic Thunder 8/10
8. Happy Gilmore 8/10
7. The Hangover 8.5/10, love watching this one with my mom and dad
6. Coming to America 8.5/10
5. Young Frankenstein 9/10
4. Shaun of The Dead 9/10, Zom 100 was clearly inspired by this and that’s really what made me enjoy this one
3. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off 9/10
2. Groundhog Day 9.5/10
1. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby 9.5/10, among my top 100 favorite movies personally. Me and my dad always do “Shake and bake!”
Glad to see someone else have Talladega Nights at number 1
Cable guy is my #1 on this list. That movie is so good and it has tenacious d and Saul Goodman.
I can agree with this
Dumber and dumber that low is just sad
@@JackSummerfield-s5m I’ve personally never found it that funny…
Great video, as always! Surprised that Naked Gun, Monty Python, and Chris Farley all missed the list. But lots of great stuff are on the list, so I don't know what I'd drop.
Bro! I just about dropped out my chair on where you put Spaceballs. Pretty much every movie buff on EVERY Discord channel I frequent has this as one of their favorite comedies ever, including me.
How? Haha
Pizza the Hut just doesn’t seem like the best Mel brooks could do with Star wars
I'm in the minority of people who thinks Spaceballs is just mostly cheap and unfunny attempts at humor.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAboutI'm with you actually. It's memorable and very watchable with some good gags but it's not top tier Brooks. I wouldn't have it at the bottom but it's pretty close to there.
Damn…. Shattered my soul with that Spaceballs placement😂. It would be in my top 15 at least personally.
I was not expecting this much Space Balls love. It's fascinating
Love watching these so far and seeing everybody's different comedic taste. Definitely would love seeing a follow up to this!
The Naked Gun is hilarious lol
One of my favorite trilogies of all time.
Posted this on Cody's video, and I'll re-post it here.
Before I share my list, I have to say that I am shocked that these films didn’t make the cut (unless they are being saved for a future comedy franchise 31 on 31): American Pie, Ace Ventura, Clerks (or most Kevin Smith films) Wayne’s World, Austin Powers, Holy Grail, Porky’s, Revenge Of The Nerds and Up In Smoke. All of them comedy classics that deserve to be on a list like this over In Bruges, The World’s End, Funny People, Cable guy, Multiplicity, and Kingpin. I get that you can only fit 31 on this list the films I mentioned above seem like glaring omissions.
Ranking:
31. In Bruges (I have no interest in seeing this film, why is this even on the list?)
30. Multiplicity (Never seen it, but I do want to see it eventually)
The rest of the films, I have seen and enjoyed, although 17-29 are all in need of a re-watch.
29. Funny People
28. Kingpin
27. Coming To America
26. Knocked Up
25. The Cable Guy
24. The World’s End
23. 40-Year Old Virgin

3. Road Trip
2. Young Frankenstein
1. Spaceballs
For me
#1 spaceballs.
Everything else
I don't know what my Top 10 Favorite comedy list will look like.
But they will definitely include Tropic Thunder, 21st Jump Street and a bunch of Will Ferrell Comedies like The Other Guys, Anchorman, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights. Etc. And maybe Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked up.
And yes if you haven't figured it out by now I am very much a Mid 2000s to early 2010s kid who likes crass and slapstick humor.

How dare you not include Uncle Buck! In all seriousness I love these 31 on 31 videos! Lots of fun and I love your list @SeanChandlerTalksAbout. Keep up the great work my friend!
He didn't decide on the 31 movies just the order.
Happy Gilmore is my favourite comedy of all time so I hope it’s at least in the top 5
Edit: Damn, not as much of a fan as me lol, but the wife is
The Cable Guy is my favorite Jim Carrey movie and I’ll take it to my grave 😂
Crazy that Dodgeball isn’t in the list 🤯
My dad would be very mad about your placement of Kingpin.
Can’t believe caddyshack, Tommy boy, and Superbad didn’t make the list

I still have to watch Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Talladega Nights, Groundhog Day, Multiplicity, Zoolander, and Airplane!.
Space balls at 30! Oh my Sean I’m shocked lol I am usually close to you on all your rankings/reviews…but this one, no way! Still love the channel though. God Bless brother!
My thoughts exactly! 😅
The one thing I always forget but TRY to remember is the maturity level of men.
That's sexist
Young Frankenstein is another great American comedy 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
I was glad to see all 3 Cornetto films featured here, but was surprised by some of the omissions - no Monty Puthon films, Spinal Tap, Austin Powers, Team America, South Park or Borat.
But, as always, a very well made and enjoyable video.
Eary role for RDJ in Weird science
Wow. Sean putting Spaceballs at 30 is a shocker.
Edit: Sean, I hard disagree with where you put The Cable Guy. That is one of the funniest dark comedies I’ve ever seen and my 2nd favorite dark comedy film ever made.
Great list! I'm surprised you didn't include Caddy Shack, Princess Bride, Office Space, Animal House, Stripes, or Pineapple Express. They're all sooo funny to me.

Huh?
@@thealjohnsonshow2188”To it’s credit, it (Spaceballs) did in fact inspire the plots of the Lorax & the Marvels”
I believe the implication here is that Lorax & Marvels are 2 movies most people consider shitty, and inspiring trash is not a good look for Spaceballs.
Are you guys planning to do the debrief ?!! Love to see all of you together

Sean Chandler of the Dead gotta be top 10
I’m so happy to see Tropic Thunder come in at #1, I completely agree! Even with all of the amazing competition it went against! It is sooooo effing hilarious, and I have it in my top 5 comedies of all time.
The birdcage with Robin Williams will always be my number 1 . Hahaha
It stank.
@@saucensugar fair enough !👍 have a good one !
I like pizza, I like to lick it and put it in my wallet.
Saw Spaceballs at thirty and threw my phone.
I get that a lot
A lot of gens on this list but no Monty Python, Wedding Crashers, Superbad, Caddyshack, Snatch, or Naked Gun makes me think it’s a woefully incomplete list.
I love the list! I love superbad that would be my number one
Where’s White Chicks’ it’s my number 1 of all time 😁 your ranking otherwise is pretty spot on, although Scary Movie is my fav parody and shame it’s not mentioned 😭
SPOILERS FOR In Bruges: It's absolutely brilliant and one of my favourite films ever, but it has one of the most heartbreaking, disturbing and frankly disgusting death scenes I've ever seen. That scene gives the Saw films a run for their money. It's a hilarious film but very hard to call a comedy.
Whilst I know comedy is subjective... rating Spaceballs so low is horrific! Spaceballs is so great
My favorite comedy of all time is probably The Naked Gun: From the Filea of Police Squad. Then again, on another day, I might pick Tropic Thunder OR Team America: World Police.
Anybody that says In Bruge isn't really a comedy doesn't know what a comedy is or is very sheltered in their comedy that they don't watch the Heathers, Happiness, Election, Harold and Maude, Arsenic and old Lace, War of the Roses, Fear and Loathing, Delicatessen, Fargo, the Death of Stalin, the Lobster, the Royal Tenenbaums, in the Loop, Adaptation, Dr. Strangelove, the Ref, the Voices, Better Off Dead, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, World's Greatest Dad, etc
This. All of this. I find a lot of the comedies on the 31 list funny, I’ve seen all of them, but give me dark humor all day. In Bruges is hilarious and just a straight up great movie. I went in with no expectations or knowledge of what it was about and I loved it. If people can’t embrace the idea of dark comedy I just feel sorry for them. Coen Brothers movies in particular are often dark humor that get better with every viewing because the laughs are subtle, not obvious. You pick up on more hilarious things every time. It sounds snobby but if a person could find no comedic value in any of the movies you named, I wouldn’t want to hang out with them whatsoever.
@vesuvianvillain it is understandable though that people have a hard time with it though. Jokes about being a pedophile or other really divisive subject is pretty uncomfortable for the average viewer to be able to relax and laugh at them
@@aaronrumph3291True, it really depends on your outlook and staying open-minded. Some people just can’t move past difficult subject matter. My approach is it’s all art and if it can actually make you think or feel something, I respect it. Avoiding things/topics you find difficult will never help you grow as a person. In my opinion, people who only go to the movies to “shut their brain off” are really missing the point.
@vesuvianvillain I go to the movies just to have fun, but I don't really care about political issues enough to get bothered by political jokes as long has it is done well like when a pedophile father has am awkward conversation about masterbation with his his boy and later having a conversation about being a pedophile with his son is pretty hilarious.
Been excited for this one!
3 movies deep and every one was a banger in its time. I get it tho. I watched some Bill Hicks the other night and it really hit me how much the culture has shifted.
Dang cable guy and kingpin are up at the top for me!
Also I feel like this is the year we are getting the Universal Classic Monsters version of 31 on 31 in October. Feels like the right time and probably about the only theme to keep Bryan one more year.
Dude, I am unsubbing for the Spaceballs snub. Everytime I watch it, it gets better!

Die Hard should be Numero Uno. Like, actually, when McClane drops the corpse on to Sgt Powells car I laughed so hard and I have no idea why.🤣🤣
Odd suggestion, but your director rankings are some of my favourite videos of yours, and i saw that you sighted The royal tenenbaums as your favourite film of 2001, so i'd love to see a Wes Anderson ranking at some point.
I've tried to in the past. It's just he's a tough one because he has such a narrow style. It's like eating the same meal for a week straight
@@SeanChandlerTalksAboutthat is a good point but to me there is a clear split from everything after Darjeeling limited, with the stuff before hand being pretty much all dry and melancholic charming comedies and all the stuff after being meticulously crafted stories on a much larger scale.

This is your most controversial video by a mile. Love it
Y'all need a part 2 with the exception of some Mel Brooks there isn't any 70's comedy or no 60's at all Blake Edwards did some excellent comedies. But I liked the list.
Here is my ranking of the 18 films on this list that I have seen:
18. In Bruges
17. The Cable Guy
16. Shaun of the Dead
15. Talladega Nights
14. Happy Gilmore
13. Zoolander
12. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
11. Coming to America
10. Vacation
9. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
8. Groundhog Day
7. Airplane
6. Step Brothers
5. Blazing Saddles
4. Spaceballs
3. Dumb and Dumber
2. Young Frankenstein
1. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
I love a good amount of these movies, so it was hard to pick the best.
Ace Ventura is my favorite Comedy. I really wish you included it lol.
Before you watch this video. Please stop. And jump immediately to 14:36, watch until 14:43, and then rewind and start the video from the beginning. Your welcome.
Comedy has to be the most subjective genre cuz it’s crazy how wildly different my list is like I’d have In Bruges at 1 and Dumb and Dumber near the bottom
Why the heck is Monty Python and the Holy Grail not on this list?????
Yall missing out on one of the best, if not THE best, comedy ever made
The only Mel Brooks film I've liked was Robin Hood Men in Tights. I quote that all the time.
My husband and I just recently rewatched Road Trip and it was SO bad. We actually went to the theater to see it when it first came out. I dontt think I cared for it much then either.
There are so many comedies I loved as a kid that really don't hold up for me as an adult. Ferris Bueller is one. I will watch it, but like...Ferris was a brat, haha. Home Alone is another one. Kevin was ALSO a brat. I still laugh, but getting through the first part where he's just a mouthy kid...its hard. I'm glad I had them though. They made my childhood awesome.
Out of the films I’ve seen, I’d rank them…
Anchorman
Talladega Knights
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Airplane
Zoolander
Happy Gilmore
Groundhog Day
Planes Trains and Automobiles
Hangover
Coming to America
Vacation
Dumb and Dumber
Step Brothers
Old School
Kingpin
I will say I quite like all of the film listed above.
And I’m surprised Superbad was left off the 31.
My ranking of the ones I've seen:
1. Groundhog Day
[HUGE gap]
2. Tropic Thunder
3. Dumb & Dumber
4. Spaceballs
5. Blazing Saddles
6. Young Frankenstein
The reason road trip is so low is because your not a teen
My favorite movies from this list
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Plane's, Train's and Automobile's
Multiplicity
Tropic Thunder
Spaceballs
Weird Science
I haven't seen Groundhogs Day or Young Frankenstein, but I'm going to have to check them out.
Multiplicity is another great American comedy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😍😍😍😍
Is this a bot account
If it’s not I’m genuinely sorry
Do you have cue cards? How many exits were done? I'm extremely impressed with you doing this entire list without a script I guess that's movie magic but I think that's pretty cool
1. Superbad
2. Anchor Man
3. Scott Pilgrim vs The World
4. Step Brothers
5. Malibu’s Most Wanted
The best movie is Groundhog Day on this list however I don't really class it as an all out comedy. The funniest and most quotable is Anchorman. Will Ferrell at his absolute finest.
Dumb & Dumber is the top of my list.
I’ve only seen Tropic Thunder once but I found a lot of the jokes in it very witty. So that’d be high on my list too.
