    Excellent video! On my fireplace, the switch would ignite the main burner, but then randomly go out. I completely overlooked the switch since mine used a regular household light switch and I figured that since light switches usually last forever and since it lighted every time that the switch must have been good. I replaced the entire burner assembly which included the thermocouple and thermopile only to have it do the same exact thing. So I checked continuity on the switch and it was intermittent fluctuating all over. A new switch fixed it. Subscribed and liked!

      Thanks for watching. the reason for pilot flame goes out is that voltage generated by thermocouple is not high enough to turn on pilot gas valve. So first measure millivolt reading, if it is low follow step three to increase it. second low gas pressure is another reason. Good Luck.

      Another thing is to clean up your thermocouple and thermopile. And check if pilot flame colour is healthy blue.

    It’s very helpful for understanding the working mechanism for fireplace. Really appreciate it!
    If the pilot light goes off after releasing pilot button, does it mean the thermocouple is broken? Could you please explain a little more on the thermocouple circuitry?

    • @guelphming3843

      Thanks for watching. There are a few to check 1. Check pilot flame colour, clean vacuum pilot if necessary. 2. Clean thermocouple 3. Check if thermocouple is surrounded by pilot flame you can either adjust position or turn pilot adjustment screw to increase the size of pilot. 4. Make sure gas valve open plus if you live in rural areas hold pilot knob for longer time to purge air in the gas line. Hope these can help.
      Good luck.

    Hi @GuelphMing,
    Your video is really a very helpful. Thanks for sharing with us.

      Thank you for watching. Check the following things 1. Pilot flame colour, if not blue clean pilot assembly and orifice. 2. Check pilot flame size, If pilot flame too small turn it up by pilot adjustment screw. Also, ensure the pilot light is strong and steady; a weak flame might cause it to go out. 3. check if the thermocouple is positioned correctly in the flame. If it's not, it might shut off as a safety feature. 4.make sure the thermocouple is clean. Try these steps.

      Thanks for your quick reply and I did all these steps but haven’t tried jumper to make it direct,, after couple of on and off it was stabbed but new problem power switch some time works some time not, it’s common for gas fireplace after setup from pilot to on mode, and blower any further suggestions much appreciated.
      Power switch works fine as i can see the light in adapter and blower also works fine only issue with gas flame on off through the switch as it works sometimes but not always. Thank you

    Hi - Thanks for the great video and diagram explaining how these systems work. I have followed the instructions, but the fireplace is still not lighting. I have 535 mv at the TP / TPTH terminals and have tried jumping these terminals with a paper clip. When jumped, there is no click from the gas valve opening. Do you have any suggestions for further troubleshooting or an idea what could be wrong? Thanks!

    I have 0.73V; jumped the contacts, nothing happens. No click, nothing. I measure 2.1 ohms across the coil. What could be wrong? Valve not turning on or activating the gas line? How to fix that? Thanks.

    • @guelphming3843
      @guelphming3843  Місяць тому +1

      @@cr95630 looks like your thermopile generates enough millivolt. If you jumped switch burner did not turn on two possibilities one is faulty gas valve, the other is your gas line to the burner clogged, sometimes dust even bug clogged it. Good luck.

      Thanks for watching. First of all, two terminals at TP/TH and TH need to be jumped, if you don’t hear click when you jumper above two terminals. You can check gas valve coil by measuring its resistance. Its range is a couple of Ohms. Good luck.
