Sheldon Keefe will win a Cup guaranteed wherever he goes. How do you fire a guy who already has the 5th most wins in regular season play next to the likes of Imlach, Quinn, Irvin? YOU DON'T. The real fire needs to be lit under the underachieving overpaid players who won't play hard for their coach or the fans. We've seen this time and again that great coaches are not respected when they drive their players to win: Pat Burns, Pat Quinn, Paul Maurice, Ron Wilson, Mike Babcock, now Keefe. The more they want their boys to play and win for them the more they get the boot when the players don't go out and do their jobs to win. It's got to the point no one should darken the doors of the Scotiabank Arena for a season and may be when Shanacrap and company can realize they can't pay the bills they might fall on their own swords instead of blaming coaches, it's the easy coward way out..

@@andrewlowe9969 I somewhat agree with you but the same was said for the Toronto Raptors when they fired Dwayne Casey when his regular season record was 59-23 in 2018. He had the most wins in franchise history, it didn't equate to playoff success. He lost in the first round and ultimately lost his job because of it. The next season they brought in a new head coach with a different voice and message and they won the NBA Championship. Doesn't mean that will happen to the leafs but its a results business and they didn't deliver. Good Luck Sheldon. That being said, the players need to be held accountable as well

Fire Shanahan. Then find someone who can build a SYSTEM that develops talent through Their AHL etc.
Shanahan's system: trade Carter Verhaegue, develop Lily and Woll. Draft the core 4, Kneiss and Reilly.
Tampa's system: develop Carter Verhaegue, Kuch, Vasy and 13 other players that win 2 cups and play for their third but lose Yanni Gourd, etc etc.
Shanahan is the problem.

Leafs Followers don’t want Mitch to give up back checking in OT to watch his man score. Mitch likes and wants to be treated as a God in Toronto. Leaf Fans wanted Mitch to play as hard as possible not blaming his teammates for his screw ups.

Little Mitchell should pay a fine for coughing up a hair ball on that series ending play and be booed out of Scotiabank Arena if he happens to still be with this team at next year's home opener. I'd cut his pay simply if I was running things. Will never happen CBA rules protect players for being underachievers.

As I said previously: a coach can’t fix broken. One can coach until they are blue in the face, but if the team isn’t built for success in the playoffs, then it’s a non-starter.
Changing the coach fixes four useless playoff forwards, an average at best defence and goaltending how? How is a coach going to fix this team? The answer is it can’t.
A new head coach will only go so far. Flames' GM Craig Conroy found that out with Ryan Huska, with a need for Conroy to try to acquire some draft capital via trades of as many then-pending unrestricted free agents as possible.
Spot on. How many decent coaches have been turfed by the MLSE front office over the past few decades when they won't blame themselves first? Too many. Keefe is another victim of getting the boot when it's the players who need to take a hit in the pocket books for not playing for their coach. The Front Office needs to support its coaches not sack them for underachieving players who have too big a payroll. Start cutting their salaries it's that simple.
Rather sad to see another good Coach axed by MLSE. Keefer will win a Cup guaranteed elsewhere. If he ends up in New Jersey imagine he could repeat what Pat Burns did post Leafs win another Stanley Cup for them. I wish Sheldon the best he was a great coach.
Sid is right about playing the same players. Game 5 and 6 he was forced to try different players because of injuries and the team looked great.

Yeah Sheldon said it after he was fired. All before that he was all Leafs corpo-speak for years. Just like the players just like the president and board. But the coach can't trade the players etc., but is always the first to go. Good luck to Sheldon, nice guy. Next Leafs coach is Tree's coach.
The next team to get Keefe will be successful. The coaching wasn't the whole issue, the way the team is built and payed is the issue. Best of luck Keefe, I'll be cheering for you on whatever team you choose to coach.

You can't say that every coach this team has had since 1968 till now is accountable for this organization not winning a cup. So coaches are better than others that's true but at the end of the day it's the desire of the guys on the ice and their skills. That last goal was 100% preventable. If they had won that game, then what, would Keefe still be on the chopping block? It was a bad play on the player's part, not the coach. They won't win a cup until the players are hungry enough to do so.
I wouldn't expect any player on the Maple Leafs to take accountability because let's face it...they aren't of the caliber of your Kobe's or your MJ's when they have stated in the past they weren't good enough to win...this is why you will never see another Lord's Stanley's Cup ever coming to Toronto until that happens.

A good leader holds everyone accountable regardless if the player is a star… either you follow instruction and check your ego or you sit on the pine. It’s fkd up almost every season I don’t know their lines. That was the case again this season right up until game 7. Keefe always juggled the lines so much but didn’t touch the struggling PP…..Weird
Just watched 10:30 press conference, lots of good words like messaging, cohesion and my favourite chemistry ... thought I was watching a psychology conference. Here's a term that's really scary to the MLS crowd .... new players and fire Shanahan.

Unless Daddy Dubas hires him in Pittsburgh, no other team will hire him. He had top class players and he couldn't figure out how to make them win in the Playoffs. He was never an NHL Calibre Coach and it showed in the Playoffs

Sheldon Keefe I personally like him as a coach but someone had to take the blame I think shanahan should have been fired, and even took full accountability like Jesus Christ start from the top and finish at the bottom time for a cleanup we've been due for the last 8 years

Like you Sid, die-hard Leafs fan here. That was a good call firing Keefe, but Shanahan needs to be fired too. Shanahan has been president for 10 years now and needs to be accountable for not getting it done with all the money invested in the core group. On that note, clearly, they need to break up the core four as well. I like Tavares but Matthews should be captain of that team. Toronto also needs a goalie who can take them through the playoffs, alongside a strong backup goalie. Some better defense would help too.
Firing Keefe is symbolic. No one coach can make this team a Stanley Cuo contender. Four finesse forward, average defence and goaltending has never been the template for playoff success, so fire anyone you want, but the team is destined to fail, until the lineup is addressed.
Practically everyone who gets fired or traded from this team, goes on to do infinitely better elsewhere. Maybe..... just maybe, those people weren't the problem.
Keefe "will" go on to another team, yes, and he will undoubtedly do better with a real roster, and not some cream puff prima donnas. Anyone would.
See you next season for a different face, and the same results.......... if not worse. 🍻
That was so obviously scripted by someone else and a perfect positioning for a future gig; love and respect the man, history will show he wasn’t the right guy for this scenario. He’ll do well elsewhere if he finds a right fit.
Leafs are an excellent team that can win a cup! Shown in last 3 games, you play defence and protect the goalie he does not need to be a superstar. Keefe had to go, 5 years the Leafs were patient with him. Move on and bring in experience and a winning coach. I could have had a .667 winning percentage with that team. Treviling need a another season when a decision will be made with Marner and Tavares, plenty of money to work with in the middle. Domi played great for 3 Million. I'll take 4 of him over 1 Taveres

Keefe was the fall guy. Shanahan should go. The whole concept of investing everything into 4 guys basically was a numbskull move. Get rid of Marner. Get rid of Tavares. I would have said get rid of Nylander was well. He's a floater and not worth playing like you are short handed every time he's on the ice. Gio should go as well. Brodie. Choose a goalie to get rid of as well.
Nylander needs to go but they just recently gave him a lot more 💰 I think Marner is still not at a 💯% health to play and would be nice if he had the right coach to give him the confidence he needs to keep going for the playoffs. It would have been nice to have a brand new PP coach sooner.

As soon as Samsonov went in net I think everybody knew they were going to loose. If they don’t get a good goalie a new coach won’t make a difference & Woll seems to get hurt to much.

The Leafs will look the exact same because it isn't about the coach, players or management. The Leafs have been hiring and firing coaches, players and management for the last 50 years with the same results. The problem with the Leafs are the fans. People keep showing up and buying Leafs garbage then you won't see any real change. Until Leafs fans stop putting up with this BS then nothing will ever change and Toronto will never see another Stanley Cup.
You do realize that the majority of leafs seats are corporate owned, right? They will never stop buying.
I am of the belief the Leafs will not make th playoffs next season. know body speaks to the fact that you first must win in the season to even have a chance to start in th playoffs. what happens with this club if it looses 6-8 games or more than this season .. unfortunately we will likely yhav not break up th score and regardless of who what happens to th play making it takes to first score a goal..we need a less injury prone top drawer goaltender and a solid main line defence man or 2 and neither of these positions are likely to be 80-100 point men.. so a challenge does exist . the only alternative is to draft top prospects in goal and defence and wait till they mature..risky but doable.. free agency is still costly way ..take 20M a year off cap space and perhaps in a2-3 years we will compete again.
Good, changes will be made now....the PP coach, has to go now....poor Keefe, scapegoat...he did a fine job. The PP did not score, 4 pylons on the ice for that last goal....none of this was Keefe's fault. You will be missed coach. Great things ahead for you.
