    Here is a link to a video all about caring for celestial pearl danios below...
    • Celestial Pearl Danios...
    In this video I will be discussing how to tell the gender of celestial Pearl danios. Commonly referred to as "sexing" your fish , and in this case your CPDs . Also I will be going into quite a bit of detail of the different methods that you can use to spawn baby fry from your adult Celestial Pearl Danios. Be Sure to view my other videos on them for water conditions, habitat and the importance of live micro worms, baby brine shrimp, daphnia or seed shrimp for raising the fry.
    I will point out subtle differences between wild stock caught in Myanmar AKA Burma and purchasing line bred fish which may have more vivid colors and variations in patterns, color, finage and body style.
    The bulk of the video is discussing thr different types of Fry pens or cages you can use to breed egg scattering nano fish. Along with this, I'll discuss some of the common problems that may occur when raising fry, such as predation by snails (almost all snails may eat eggs if hungry), shrimp (neocaridina or caridina) as well as the parents or other fish in the tank. Even nano, or micro fish love to chow down on these tiny little baby fish and or eggs.
    I'll also go over the most common methods of encouraging tetra, rasbora, danio or white cloud minnows to lay ans fertalize theor eggs quickly.
    We cover questions like what is a breeding mop? How do you tell males and females apart, how do you spawn egg scattering fish, and of course, how do I get my celestial pearl danios to mate (and get the offspring to survive).
    Other info includes vegetation, and Fry traps also known as egg catchers or GATHERED, the type you can purchase as big box stores such as petco or petsmart, as well as some DIY ways to breed C.P.D. Thanks for watching, enjoy!
    For low prices on rainbow fish, shrimp, snails and more, I use the Family run Florida Farmer who owns Tampa Aquaculture and tell them I sent you for a free gift with purchase www.tampaaquaculture.com

    You could attach the fine acrylic mesh to the sides of the fry box to prevent babies escaping and leave the original separating grate on the bottom to allow the eggs to fall freely.

    so I have an extra 10g, my plan was to breed blue neocardina in there, sand from my AC tank and some java moss with water lettuce on top. couple rocks for caves nothing fancy. Was thinking of putting some CPD in there to breed as well. IK they could eat some shrimp eggs but not worried, pretty much just want to build an easy breeder tank. Some mystery snails will probably sneak in lol. So was thinking of putting 1m 2f CPD in the tank for a couple days then remove them. wait a few days to look for fry. and then repeating once I move the fry out or if breeding failed. Does this sound about right? would you do it differently? Leeme know, thanks cheers.

    I'm thinking of adding CPD to my 15 gallon planted tank that only has shrimp in it so far. Do you think a school of about 12 would be more outgoing in a species only set up like this? I'm a bit apprehensive as i've read they're v shy and may spend all their time hiding so i'll barely ever see them exploring the tank.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 років тому +1

      it depends a bit on the layout, but i would assume 12 would be fine and theyd have more courage. If you want to order them with a discount aquaticarts.com has them usually and you can get 15% off with mentioning the channel and code SECRETSHRIMP15
      12 is still few enough thay you csn have some corydora habrosus (5 or 6 easily), which are a fun little tiny cute addition that kinda encourages less fear, as they swim all over.
      other tips - water temp around 74 instead of 76 or 78 males cpds a bit more lively and they really like places to hide if need be...so id plant some thin grass or rotala type plants on the back 2 corners or sides....and or something where they feel hidden, but youll still see them through it.
      lastly using small dither fish can help... tinwini / gold ring danios, or green/ blue axelrodi rasboras are one of my favorites since they live together naturally. A little larger but still natives are orange rummy nose rasboras which get a bit larger at 1.5 inches though (also a lake Inle species and cool looking).
      lastly clown killies are top dwellers, small and beautiful and make the cpds feel safe like no birds are above. They stay tiny too.
      Lastly, i would make sure to feed them in the morning lights on or before lights out...but make them come feed from a ledge, plant or stone in an open area so they learn to patrol their full space for blood worms or treats they like

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 років тому +4

      I put nothing in with them.... only an otocinctlus or a few shrimp. I even like to remove the parents If none are born within a month.... youd be surprised how many eggs are being laid by all your fish daily. If you grabbed all the adult fish, and snails out of a heavily planted community tank, and just let it sit for a month after.... and feed baby brine shrimp as soon as you see the first couple fry, you'll likely get 50% of your species having laid eggs that just usually get eaten daily

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  9 місяців тому +1

      So as long as there is a place for the eggs to fall to the bottom or into a tangle of plants, before getting picked at and eaten by the cpds... you can breed them in it. Marbles all across the bottom works well too, or a screen/mesh layer about an jnch above the bottom... both work well. Then after they lay eggs, simply return the adults to the main tank and raise the fry in the pen until 1/3rd to 1/2 an inch long

    • @alexalb2012

      I keep them on a live food diet and they'll keep dropping 3 to 10 eggs a day when in spawning condition...for up to 2 weeks ...the main issue is often they eat the eggs too.., so if you add a screen at the bottom for the eggs to fall through, then you can hatch a lot more.

      A fat belly...and if you shine a strong LED like your phone's flashlight, it sometimes will let you see through their belly and see the outline or eggs in there. Do it when its pitch dark, so you can sneak up on the tank, and they are in their night time sleeping coloration pattern that is more translucent

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  4 роки тому +1

      @@rleyquinn6252 unless your tank is planted extremely well, like solid 3 inch carpets of moss and then layers of plants...youll want to grab the 4 females ideally...separate them and fatten them up on brine shrimp....then re introduce 2 males to the females after a week of feeding both groups nice live food ideally....or at least frozen things like daphnia or blood worms.
      Then make sure only the one species is in the planted tank...and drop off the males at night...so they will spawn first thing in the morning....leave the light off and just let ambient light in the room be enough...and keep feeding the group good quality food...then after 3 to 5 days remove all the fish....and just have what looks like an empty tank.... after 3 or 4 weeks if you look closely you should probably have 10 to 100 baby fry swimming....if you leave adults with them- then you may only get one or two fry that live.... cherry barbs are especially nippy...and female guppies as well.

      Yeah they have a few easy ways to sex them. There's a black bar (usually 2 black stripes by adulthood, on male anal fins.) Also their chest or belly is usually silver and not fully blue on females, along with them being rounder in shape also. Usually the males look skinny and get a bit of a humpback as they become adults .... males supposedly are blue and females more emeralds color....but really it seems to mean males are more colorful than the larger females. Then there is the gravid spot, just like guppies have....although a male about to *cough* relieve himself- can trick you once in a while.
