    I love mine , I changed the saddle to a brooks B67 ( which is sprung ) , added two Smart R2 rear lights to the back loops on the saddle , yes it’s heavy but at speed that rear wheel which does in fact rev to over 42... feels very stable , not like cheap Chinese bikes do , plus being built like a tank you just know she’ll be fine if you come off. Unlike a carbon bike one crash and it’s good night next frame please.
    The creeping up n surprising peeps can be cured by a blue tooth speaker Marshall Emberton on the handle bars it’s very LOUD ! and the bass can be felt though the bike.
    I’ve never seen an all metal e bike throttle , I think it could cause problems after all it’s a variable resister and you wouldn’t want it shorting out on the case to frame.
    I agree with the display a pair of clock style gauges would look better , and I personally like the regen on a big red button like the older versions. Having said that the style is supposed to look like a 20s board tracker.
    The only bit I don’t like is Vintage have now removed the ignition key in favour of new display.

    Not bad looking but for that price it needs to be perfect. I couldn’t believe how sloppy the welds looked, considering the plastic throttle, poor grips, and low speed peddle issues they need to learn how to make a refined product at that price point.

      I've got about 325 miles on it now and have had absolutely nothing but joy and relaxation on this bike as well as taking in miles and miles of state trail scenery that Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota has to offer! I don't regret spending one cent of what it cost. Was everything I hoped it would be!
      I haven't yet run the battery completely dead.. but on my trips that I primarily state trails I'm certain I can get 65 and maybe 75 miles. I do most my trail riding in either power of 1 or 2.. probably most 2 I suppose. So it's a very healthy and light cardio exercise.. I'm just out to enjoy my day.. and I got the extra oomfff when I need it! In town riding I usually run the power setting up to 3-5.. depends on the traffic I have to coexist with. Lol! In town riding will absolutely eat the battery up if ya got alot of stop and go.

    I've been eyeing this thing recently so it's in my future of purchases. I already bought the sidecar for it too. I've ridden one for a day and I love it overall. But like you said, every detail needs to be premium with the price point. 3 things they need to update/change. 1. The throttle. That thumb shifter needs to go ASAP. It needs to be a twist throttle. 2. They need to upgrade the rear light. It seems like the rear light was an after thought and just installed it to have one (like every ebike company they skimp on rear lights). It needs to be bigger, more prominent, brighter, as well as feel like its one with the chassis. 3. It needs to have a brake light function. 4. This one is a bonus but I hope they make a dual motor upgrade option in the future as well as add a 2nd battery that can be installed in the rear that mounts on top of their rear rack.

    • @dipdip7250
      @dipdip7250 Рік тому

      Twist throttles are liable to be set-off when you lift the bike over a curb and require you to rotate your whole arm instead of just flicking your thumb (which is much safer). Also, the thumb throttle is cheaper to replace if you break it. That’s why I prefer thumb throttles on e-bikes.

    • @houseofintent
      @houseofintent Рік тому

      @@dipdip7250 both have their pros and cons but all bikes with motors should really be twist throttle because it’s a bike. E-bikes, eMotos, scooters, motorbikes have twist throttles. Its a standard and they all have it on the right because again, it’s a standard. How often do you break your throttle? Accidentally triggering throttle is going to happen regardless if you don’t know what you’re doing. That’s why it’s important to know the machine, know your limits, know what you’re doing. I ride motorbikes so I’m comfortable with twist throttle.

    Are these are being sold on Alibaba for $800?
    (Google "electric bike cruiser alibaba, you'll see it, looks identical but in silver or black, seller - Shanghai Diamond)
    The power rating is significantly lower for the Alibaba offering, but they look IDENTICAL, all the way down to the leather fork bumpers. So is it a case of another Chinese company ripping off a product and making a cheaper version, or is it a case of a company picking out an existing Chinese manufactured product, making a few subtle changes and calling it 'their' design and engineering(which happens far more often than you would expect in the cycling world)?

      @@55bolts hi John, thank you for your response. I am also deliberating which vintage electric throttle bike to purchase. As it stands, I think the roadster is the bike you’re less likely to get hit by a car while riding on however, you are more likely to get pulled over because it looks like a motorcycle. As for the scrambler, I think that it looks more like a bicycle than the roadster but you’re much more liable to get hit at night because of all black. the Shelby, if only because it is blue, looks more like a bicycle but catches the eye, it also screams “look at me” and visibly just looks more expensive than the other bikes to potential thieves. For riding a bike on on public roads I think the Shelby makes the most sense.

    • @55bolts
      @55bolts Рік тому +1

      @@dipdip7250 I'm game for all 3. In the end I'll probably end up with the Shelby. I live in Utah so the roads are wide. So I'm not in tight traffic. I'm not worried about the motor cycle look or being pulled over. There are people and kids riding all sorts of E things here. One guy was in some sort of a tri wheel (one wheel front 2 in the back). We were at a light and he was beside us yet he was so low we couldn't see him. The only thing that kept him somewhat visible was his long flag in the back. When the light turned green this guy was gone. I kid you not he must have been going 50 miles an hour with in 10 yards. I will use this bike more for local store runs etc. and occasional commute to work. In the end I will most likely end up with a bike from this company. Doesn't seem to have issues with them or their product and I take care of my stuff really well so it should last me a long time. As for the ONYX I still like the look and speed but the company has ups and downs. Complaints about them and the bikes themselves have plenty of complaints. I've had my eye on e bikes for about 5 years and I'm glad I waited since there are more choices now. Again I feel really comfortable buying from these guys even with the higher prices. I think this is a classic case of..."you get what you pay for". Let me know what you decide up the road?! Have a good day!!!

    Point 1: is it worth $7,400?
    Hell no! You can get a quality motorcycle for that amount of money. Not a bicycle. A real mode of transportation. Not a children’s toy. A thing you could use to ride across the country with two people at the same speeds as a car.
    The electric bike is basically a toy. A wildly expensive toy. You going to park your $7,400 toy on the street in SF while you do some shopping or run some errands? It’s going to get stolen in no time.
    Are you going to carry that 86lb bike up several flights of stairs at your home or when visiting other people on it? As I mentioned, it’s going to get stolen if you leave it on the street.
    There is no front fender on this. You won’t want to take it in the wet.
    “If you’re willing to fork over the cash ....” you can spend lots of money to turn heads. If that’s your goal it’s pretty easy to do. Wear a $5,000 watch on a $2,400 electric bike ... or a small CC bike like a Honda Grom or Kawasaki z125.

      Looks like a motor bike so no one pulls out in front of me now , yes you need to keep it in a garage and buy £500 worth of locks !
      The rear mudguard ( fender ) doesn’t work in wet you get a wet ass lol but they now do a full front and back option with comfort bars !
      Who can see ya Rolex when your doing 55 ...... so mines a fake lol
      Yea she’s heavy , that keeps her planted at speed , as for toy yup it’s a joy toy Vintage Electric is so much fun to ride I don’t regret spending the money to buy Two for a second , I got one used ex demo and had to wait for them to build the new one.
      They start at $5000 , and lots of high end bike are much much more expensive and they are fragile compared to a Tracker ..

      @@adrianthomas4660 i feel like by your logic better than this would be a normal bike that costs 1/100th what this costs. It uses fewer resources. Needs no charging. No battery waste so it’s more eco friendly.
      The comparison isn’t really this vs a bicycle though, right? For this kind of money you can get a real motorcycle. A real mode of transportation.
      I’m sure there is a city somewhere that this can be parked outside in. I’ve just never lived there. In San Francisco where this was filmed it would get stolen if you left it locked up outside. I wouldn’t trust it in communal spaces in apartments either.
      I cannot imagine what would make this worth that amount of money when you can get a motorcycle for half the price of this which OBVIOUSLY is a better value with more complex manufacturing and greater capabilities.
      You could spend 1,000 on a pair of socks and then talk about how eco friendly they are ... go for it, man. This is absurdly expensive. You can get better options for significantly less.
      You care about the planet? No motor and $600 will get you a bike. You just saved about $6,500. Honda and Kawasaki make more than 11 bikes you can get brand new for less than the cost of this e-bike. Some of those can be used to transport two people on a freeway just fine and still cost thousands less than this ridiculously expensive bicycle. Some of these motorcycles get over 150 miles per gallon of gas. Yeah, that may not be as great as electrically charging. But, with the spare $4,000 you could do a lot to offset that difference with other aspects of your life. And, you could be using the motorcycle as a main mode of transportation for commuting.

      @@adrianthomas4660 did you give yourself a thumbs up? That’s a pretty recent post sent to me, so only I would have gotten a notification for it. I don’t think there are a lot of people exploring comments on a 9 month old thread.
      In the state I live in (California) it isn’t legal for a bicycle to ride on a sidewalk. So, that isn’t really a thing here. Nature trails? I haven’t ridden a bicycle in 25 years. Not since I got a driver’s license. If I want to do a trail I hike on it. You do you, though.
      When I did do mountain bike riding it was about exercise. I can’t imagine wanting a motor to do the work for me.
      I’m glad you’re super excited about your crazy expensive toy electric bicycle. That’s cool. It’s good to have a hobby.
      This toy is almost $8,000. I also ride an R6 supersport motorcycle. I got it almost 10 years ago. I got it for half the price of that bicycle. I can, and have, done 150mph on my bike. It’s been cheap to maintain. The stock 0-60 time on it is 2.8 seconds with a 10.8 second quarter mile at 128mph. It’s fast as hell. I live in Northern California with mountains and costal roads and it’s immense fun riding the better roads out here. Things you need more tire for than the toy bike would have. I can do track days with Sonoma Raceway and Laguna Seca around the corner.
      I can’t imagine a world where I would spend this kind of money on a toy like this. But, that just shows where my priorities are. I’d get an electric motorcycle before an electric bike. I’d get a gas motorcycle before an electric one. And, if I really wanted to do leisure rides for health I wouldn’t use something with a motor.
