Today I will revise the anatomy of the shoulder by reviewing a PD weighted MRI of the shoulder. We will cover the rotator cuff muscles and their attachments, the glenohumeral joint, the shoulder capsule, glenohumeral ligaments and the bones of the shoulder. Detailed knowledge of shoulder anatomy is crucial for anyone reading MSK (musculoskeletal) images.

Not sure if the question banks are for you?
If you're here, you're likely studying for a radiology physics exam. I've spent the last few months collating past papers from multiple different countries selecting the most commonly asked questions. You'll be surprised how often questions repeat themselves!
The types of questions asked in FRCR, RANZCR AIT, ARRT, FC Rad Diag (SA), ABR qualifying Core Physics and MICR part 1 are surprisingly similar and the key concepts remain the same throughout. I've taken the most high-yield questions and answered them in video format so that I can take you through why certain answers are correct and others are not.
Happy studying,
Michael

This video makes shoulder MRI a lot easier .. hope you work on common pathologies of shoulder, knee and ankle MRI too.
Thanks Charleen!
Outstanding video. I'm a Sports Medicine physician specializing in non-surgical orthopedics, and I've long been an advocate of physicians learning to read their own films. Your clear and straightforward video does an excellent job of breaking it all down in a systematic fashion. Even though I've been practicing for 27 years, I even learned a few new things!
Thank you for such a wonderful comment! I totally agree that physicians being able to interpret their own images is so underrated and facilitates even more meaningful discussion/collaboration with radiologists 👍
I was so impressed by your video that I passed the link along to my colleagues. I've since discovered that you have an entire series; I'm looking forward to watching the rest of them! @@radiologytutorials
I can't thank you enough, Michael for these videos. Again, Shoulder MRI anatomy made ridiculously simple😊.
Well done.
Thank you Peace 🙏🏻 I’m so glad the videos are helpful!
The shoulder definitely seems less mysterious to me after watching this great video, thank you so much for preparing this. Also, another great WFH shirt as promised, even without the pocket. Looks so comfy 😁

Hello sir, thanks for your excellent educational videos. A channel named Orthopaedic academy is using your video in their channel. I have found this one there. They have cut the right half of the screen where your face is shown.
BEST VIDEO ON SHOULDER MRI.............GOD BLESS U BROTHER.
Well, my shoulder lights up with multiple 1cm big bright spots. I guess my labrum thingy is toast.
Amazing video.. Please make videos on elbow, wrist and finger MRI. it will be really helpful. Love from India!
Thank you Amit 🙏🏻 those videos will be coming in the near future. Love from South Africa
Love the way, you teach sir. You have superb teaching skills. 🙏 Love from India. ❤️

Can you make a hip MRI video? These are great
Exceptional video! Thank you so much doc!
Thank you 😊 hope it's helpful!
Hi does any one have Radiopaedia conference videos 2023
MRI of the knee joint is most welcome. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much 👍🏻🌸
is this Right shoulder?
Exceptional video on shoulder MRI, thank you so much for this. It makes so much more sense now to look at this. Would there be a video on the systematic approach you take for the hips MRI?
Thank you, do you have a video from Pelvis MRI?
Pleasure. Not yet. Definitely on my list of things to do!
A rather complex topic explained very clearly. Thank you so much for this! Looking forward to similar approaches to the other joints too, like knee, ankle and wrist.
Could you please confirm one thing : is it possible (or necessary) to distinguish between the muscle bellies of infraspinatus and teres minor? The tendons are relatively distinct but the muscle bellies tend to almost blend in the image.
Hi Utsav. It is possible to delineate the muscle bellies but can be difficult in many cases. As to whether it's necessary... 🤷🏻♂️ It's an uncommonly injured muscle (teres minor) but is obviously important in humeral stabilization as well as bordering the quadrangular space. Suppose everything is important given the right clinical scenario.
Thanks again for watching 🙂 hope you are well
@@radiologytutorials Is the teres major seen? For the muscle bellies of infraspinatus and teres minor, where is the cutoff. Does the mri show all the way to the origin on the scapula?
Nice lecture sir
Please do explain the musculoskeletal system of lower limb and pelvis
U make things easy to understand
Good luck sir 🌹
Can't wait to share more videos with you Athar. Planning a knee MRI video this week. The goal is to cover the whole body over the coming few months 😊
Thank you sir 🌹
Thank you for the fantastic anatomy videos Dr Michael! You make it so much easier to learn these complex topics compared to anatomy textbooks, and the way you explain things so simply and succinctly helps with memory retention.
I just wanted to clarify - at 18:11, I noticed a small audio edit but am not sure if that is the coracoacromial or coracoclavicular ligament over the subdeltoid bursa?
Amazing shoulder MRI video. I understood shoulder MRI for the first time. Request you to please make video on MRI lumbar and cervical spine.
hello dr. i have pain 8 years because of heavy working at gym and armwesting. i went too many hospital and i got MR but they coudnt find something :D i can do soulder exercises :( before i can work with 100 kg now ı can work with 10 kg. i rest 10 weeks but nothing different :( have u got mail maybe u can check my MR :( i want to know what is the problem
The SAG PD I am using is quite fuzzy. Could dental implants cause this?
This IS great
It's nice being able to compare the MRI of my recently dislocated arm to a normal MRI to see how screwed I am 😅
Excellent presentation.. Btw Popliteal tendon is also an example of intra articular tendon beside long head of biceps..
Amazing. the way you explained it very easy to understand.
Again, fantastic video. Would love a MRI pelvis video, would be great for O&G work.
Hello, your lectures are all very good. Maybe you should add English subtitles or more annotations in your next videos to make it even better ? It's the only negative point if I have to say one.
Great video! Can you do anatomy of hip joint please?
Woke up 15 days ago, without doing any crazy activities, with severe shoulder pain.... after severl days went ot gwt an X ray, the doc said my shoulder on xray loos super healthy and strong and i show no signs of a tear, after several days, the pain got worse and worse, so we went to get an MRI yesterday. Now waiting for the radiologist to read the images and let me know wat is going on exactly. Ihave my images and looked at them but have no idea how to read them. hopefuly we can get this sorted as this came out of no where and being in ain for the last 2 weeks has not been good.
These are videos are truly solid, but is is made for radiologists, please take care before infering your own findings based on the video.
such an easy way to learn , you really helps me ....Thanks alot
As a new radiology resident this has been so helpful!! Any chance you’ll be doing a Hip/ pelvis MRI video soon?
I'm so glad! Hoping to expand our anatomy content this year, so will put it on the list 🤗
Nice video. Thanks from India.

"Thank you, professor.
This is Jesse, a rehabilitation medicine physician in Korea who greeted you through a UA-cam comment last time.
During my residency training, I frequently heard about the rotator interval, but I finally came to understand it clearly through your lecture.
I did not understand the concept of spine lateral recess stenosis well during my training in musculoskeletal radiology, so I would also like to request lectures on lumbar MRI or lumbar CT.
Thank you so much for the excellent lecture."
