  • Combining some corn! It was pretty wet all year, but it was especially wet this Fall--making combining a challenge. As you can see, we were playing in the mud! It seems that our combine really likes to slide in the mud, and once it slides into a prior rut it doesn't come out of that rut easy. You don't get stuck, but you do find yourself crawling ahead on an angle for awhile! Most of the field wasn't bad, but there were some frustrating stretches and also some knee-deep standing water in places.
All said, it was good to get off! The corn was Dekalb DKC 38-04 and ran about 175 bushels to the acre.

In spite of all the mud your 1620 performs really well. I noticed the excellent grain sample in the combine tank. The Axial Flow combines are one of the best I think. I used to own a 1420 back in the late 80's and most of the 90's. Have a great year! It is REALLY hot and dry here in the northwestern cornbelt....

It is really dry here, even after some rains. I think what really helps in the mud is the 1620 being a pretty lightweight combine.

we just had some rain here in south western PA. where i live, 25 miles away or less had rain thru the summer, their corn was great, not so for my area. the game commission used to let ring necks out around here yrs ago, that one looked like it maybe, it was raised in a pen. u would of thought it would of up, and flew.

Yeah we do have a few wild pheasants around, but I'm sure that was one from the pens. There are have two separate pheasant pens/clubs within a mile of that field. Also while I was hauling with the 720 there was a pheasant that just kept walking right ahead of that and the wagon--in the open next to the fence line. Later my sister almost caught it!

That's interesting, because it's just been such a wet year for us, but then you hear from so many others how dry it is elsewhere; like in California, Southern US, etc.

The 1620 has been a pretty good machine for us! Wouldn't mind picking up something a little bit bigger though.

I'm assuming you got the heavy rain in August and September like use. Looks like you got the good yields too.

TrueBlue Farmer It was a pretty rainy year throughout, but especially during harvest and the fall. Yields were good too, about 175 bushels to the acre.

How much did the combine cost would like to know

I don't remember what they were asking. We bought it about 15 years ago used with low hours, and we traded in an old Gleaner combine while paying about 20,000. Now 1620s are generally in the 15-20,000 when you see them.
