    Thanks for this video, we just bought this cage and appreciate seeing your review. The sections are a bit small, but you can modify them to fit the birds more comfortably. We had ours for the last several months in an outdoor tractor setup, which did not work well. We didn't know who was laying or wasn't, the wire was not good for their feet (bumblefoot issues) and they would stop laying for any little reason. We are hoping for much better results using this cage in our garage.

      Eric Jennings there is nothing like snapping these things together and being done with no tinkering to get them right. Definitely watch the hatching time website vid for assembly. Really helps.

      Sparkle City Quail Farm Excellent, detailed review. Thanks for the effort. I’m ordering a 5-tier. Any issues with rodents coming to your garage for the bird feed? (My birds will be in my large, unfinished, walk-out basement in a subdivision. No woods, but rodents can show up unexpectedly, I’m told.) I’m also interested in how you supply the adult quail with ample lighting for maximum eggs production.

      Shane Crabtree We’ve not had any rat issues however field mice do make their way into our garage. It Has not been that big of a problem as we are constantly moving in and out of the area. Ironically enough we just had a snake get into one of our cages that is NOT this hatching time cage system but designed similarly. The rat snake we think was after the eggs in the roll out and decided to take on a quail. Unfortunately we lost one of our layers but the snake was dispatched and hopefully won’t have any more issues suffice it to say rats mice and snakes can get into this cage system. We just acquired a property to expand our operations so our update video has been delayed. But there is much more to say about this five tier cage system. In the pros and cons. Stay tuned

      Sparkle City Quail Farm Thanks! I now have 2 cheap WiFi cameras ($30 each) on my incubator and my brooder. I’ll get another for my cages to detect any movement outside the pens. It’s so easy to monitor multiple cameras from a single app on your phone.

      Catrike & The Flaming Eyeball yes with our current setup we have our birds in our garage. We can control the environment with light and less temp swings making for more consistent laying.
      We empty/spray down our trays every morning so smell is minimal. And if it needs it we open the garage and put a fan on for ventilation.
      Compared to our first pen setup this has very minimal waste outside the trays.

    Hey, it's been a few months since you posted. I am very close in pulling the trigger to purchase some of these. Can you please provide an update on how these are performing? Do you still like them? Are they worth the investment?
    Down below you suggested that you'll be building industrial grow out pens. Why not use more of these? Too expensive or is it something else?
    Thank you sincerely.

    • @sparklecityquailfarm1068
      @sparklecityquailfarm1068  4 роки тому +5

      Aaron we still do really like these snap on cage systems. It’s held up pretty well. Since making this video we had two waterline clogs. And we figured out how to quickly flush the system. So it’s not that big of a deal.
      One of the pieces of plastic on one of the doors broke still does work.
      It depends on your situation us personally we would not hesitate if given the opportunity to redo things to buy this product again.
      The reason why we are looking to build our own again is due to the fact that we want a bit more room for our quail and I want a brooding system that stacks underneath it. there is nothing on the market that does this so we’re making our own. I’ll be posting a video soon about that.

      Most we’ve had is 12 when they were growing out to maturity. (4-8 weeks old both male and female). we had max 10 when we separated male and female. And for breeding we had max 1 male and 5 female total 6 per cage. Anything beyond those numbers we were getting in fighting. That is what worked for our flock.

  • @UndefinedBailiwick
    @UndefinedBailiwick 4 роки тому +5

    I built a slightly larger 5 tier cage with lighting, water and feeders for a third of the price. Chewy.com has a much heavier duty tray for only $12. Those manure trays you have look like 1020 trays and will eventually break. The plastic they walk on doesn't look like it'll stand the test of time either, some birds can have pretty sharp nails and they love to scratch at the floor.
    If you're going to get a grow out cage, I would suggest not getting another plastic one.

    • @sparklecityquailfarm1068
      @sparklecityquailfarm1068  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely be sure to check it out. As stated in the vid, we originally built our own pens and although they worked great, we found that these are working much better for us in our current situation. We will be building our industrial grow out pens coming up in February. Probably do a vid update for that as well :)

    Does anyone else have any issues with the watering system on this? I keep finding mine not supplying water to complete layers. I take it completely apart and put back together but never find what the issue was that caused it to stop flow.

    • @sparklecityquailfarm1068
      @sparklecityquailfarm1068  3 роки тому +1

      We had the same issue. Start at the very bottom at the very end of the run hold the water nipple down until water starts to come out. Did the same thing to the next layer at the very end and so on. Sometimes it takes a bit. Kind of annoying. To be honest I think that every watering system has problems whether it be algae, overflow, or water freezing.

      Leda Kerrigan Unfortunately I spent probably more money in the first cage system that we built that was a failure. So I completely understand the sentiment. After having these cages for long enough I learned what works and what does not work and will be building our own again. With the same concepts in mind and with modifications from what we’ve learned. It does truly take a huge load off your back when all you have to do is assemble and you’re done. Hour of work rather than days of work.

    We ordered waxed butcher paper. Super cheep... so we cut a stack of sized sheets. So this is what we do sheet of butcher paper, fine pine shavings from tractor supply. We even save our spent coffee grinds and sprinkle on the shavings. Pull out trays fold up the paper. Lay new paper put down shavings and coffee grinds. We do this once a week and we have no Oder issues. Easy easy! Romans 10: 9-13
