I like how they have the code of only killing those who kill or can kill other life forms and cannot kill the weak or those unable to fight. Shows a higher sense of honor than most human hunters.
Human hunters do the same as the predator. Humans at war follow a code also, otherwise you will be charged with war crimes. We just need to be able to kill bad blood and stop keeping them alive in jail.

one of the coolest yautja ever is the elder at the end of predator 2...loved the look of him and his targeting system was on top of his shoulder cannon instead of a helmet... he was unique looking.
The next Predator movie needs to exclusively focus on a young Predator (with no humans except for maybe a human skull trophy) on his journey to become a warrior. Then, maybe some rogue Super Predators (to tie in with the previous movie) would kill an Elder and the young Predator would hunt down the Super Predator and become the youngest Elder in their history. I'd pay to see that movie, and I haven't been to the movie theater in years.

Hm. I don't think the Predators need subtitles, since they never had subtitles before and we understood them just fine through a combination of movements and Yautja speech. Kind of like the apes in the newer Planet of the Apes movies, who also did not have subtitles when doing sign language and grunting.

Falconer from Predators was the only honorable bad-blood Yautja, I know of. As he could of killed the Yakuza at any point, but instead they fought by the sword/wristblade. After I saw this, I bought a Falconer figure and he became my favorite.

Well the thing is there is more sport to be had when the predator and its prey fight on equal standing. So if a human has a firearm chances are the predator would use his especially if the humans are in a group.

OP you are giving more attention to the Predator society than the movie screenwriters ever did, even more than the comic books. In the movies the hierarchy seems like an after-thought.

If they willingly do not defend themselves then its as if they are incapable of defending themselves. It brings upon the Yautja dishonor if they choose to attack these peaceful creatures.
I read somewhere a long time ago that when a Predator hunts, killing the target is not necessarily the goal, but it's often the outcome, not sure how true is that. I also read that if you ever encounter a predator, the last thing you should do is kill it, because then you'll be seen as worthy prey and be hunted for the rest of your life.
And yea what about the two different races of Predators that we saw in the movie Predators one was a lot bigger and stronger than the other I would like to see that explained

Great back story. All of it would make a great movie IMHO. Follow a group of young predators as they go through these rites of passage and have some break some of the codes, see the consequences, etc... I'd watch that in a second!! Ok Producers and Financiers, Fund this Film!!! Who knows, might work. I'd even settle for a fan made film as I was impressed with what I saw in the Dark Ages Predator Fan made film. Just wish it was longer, but that costs major $$$. Lets all cross our fingers and hope this becomes a reality!!! Thanks for the post.. :)

Hardly. That whole "way of bushido" crap was only invented towards the end of their era, when they realized Japanese society didn't see any reason to keep them in power. I would LOVE to see a movie about an ELITE group of Predators who hunt a queen Alien. I liked the Predators from AVP but those Predators were unproven and some died very easily. Other than Wolf, we've never seen an elite squad who is already proven. I want to see the Predators in all their glory just straight slaying some Aliens

The stuff about the Predator's Code Of Honor are complex, well thought out aspects about character, so I liked that the most. It was engaging, entertaining and perhaps even educating.
It all began with the first movie back in 1986. The character has developed through each successive sequel up to this point; the mercy killing of the actor; Lance Henricksen's character: "Leland" in AVP.
The building of the Predator has been an ongoing, exciting and psychological process unlike any other Sci Fi character.
I actually regard it as a dimension of our own.
Yep, such a shame that hollywood constantly fail to go into detail in films that are set from their perspective. Rather opting for copy and paste boring human Characters we all know will die by the end of the film, and even if they live, we know they won't appear in the next.

Whos designing their ships, manufacturing their weapons, producing medical suplies?
Right? I think it makes much more sense considering their technological achievements, weaponry, and so on, that hunting is more of a hobby to them than a way of life. Obviously a very important tradition to them, rather than just some casual hobby if they're willing to dive into nests of xenomorphs with a high likelihood of death and dismemberment. But their society as a whole can't possibly revolve solely on hunts. How would they ever get shit done in order to do all things you asked about?

Think of them in the vain of the tharks from John Carter of Mars.The females stay behind and tend the matters of manufacture and child rearing(though they can still fight if need be). While the men head out and wage war on other green men,or in the yautja’s case,others species
Either the females do it or the males both are highly intelligent think of it as us human hunters or military we both kill and have the ability to repair and build are weapons to maintain them when the predators aren't hunting they are home preparing for there next hunt

Problem: Xenomorphs hadn't evolved yet at the time of AVP. It wasn't until 2093 that we began to see Xenomorph's as we think of them today. Then in 2104 during the covenant mission and its sequel we'll finally see them reach the stage at which we see them in Alien. So either the lore is broken or we're missing a massive part of the story in which Xenomorphs had already existed for centuries which calls into question the events following the Prometheus incident.
So when Dutch won and the predator lost and blew himself up.

The mark given for the alien kill is only for an elite kill not the start of the hunt, that's why each predator has high and low hunters, the masks they wear, the youngest and most weaker is the one that lasts till the end of avp

i can totally see a treatment for this. young predator in a clan hunt for bad bloods fucks up and becomes a bad blood. hunter becomes hunted. anti-hero kills. the possibilities are endless.
This may sound weird but yautja don't kill sick people and all that stuff but what do they do with yautja that are born with a handicap? Because killing a handicapt person or banning them isn't honourable because they are defenselles. Some of them might never be able to hunt because of a handicap.
In discussing the selection of who or what was worthy prey I notice the Engineers weren't mentioned. How do they fit in the hierarchy of worthy opponents?

I have always thought that the humans were only able to kill Predators because they got lucky and the Predator got too cocky and underestimated them. Can't really remember when they were an "easy kill".

Dutch got lucky, Harrigan was almost dead when he got that surprise killing blow in, Royce used the Predators vision for his advantage. Can't remember how other Predators fared but all of these examples simply got lucky. Also as you know, "if it bleeds we can kill it", Predators are superior in strength etc compared to humans but even in the first movie it is made clear that they are not unkillable. True, they are not really too much more stronger than humans but they still are and it gives them an advantage in fighting.

Dutch won because the Predator got too cocky and never even thought he could be killed with sticks and stones. The city hunter had Harrigan on his knees when he got surprise attacked by a man he thought was already too weak to continue fighting. The Katana fight was a draw if i recall correctly, not really a win if you die as well. The point still stands, none of these were easy kills.
A tv show about predators going from young bloods to elite hunters would be awesome.

This is a great vid. I have been fascinated with the predator franchise and yautja since I seen the first movie when I was a kid. I'm super excited for the new movie.
I'd like to see a book about the predator species before they mastered interstellar travel. You know just to see how much their culture changed and evolved. To see how much of their hunter hierarchy they lost, kept and changed to then hunt other extraterrestrial species.

Bad thing about this is, we will never get to see the movie version of the entire way of life unfold bc the predator dies in every film. You would think they woulve been made one movie where the predator is Victorious and become more than a young blood.

Yes. Scar does that in AVP with his Shuriken as a alien is crawling down the wall. It's so sharp, it doesn't actually bleed.
Imagine if all alien species in all the movies including humans coming together and fight. My ultimate wet movie dream would be like this: Humans, Predators and the Engineers vs Xenomorphs, Harvesters (Indepence Day), Martians( War of the worlds). Humans, Predators and the Engineers are more likely to have a code of honor, so I like them more. I can't wait till the new Predator movie though, I hope they will say something about Machiko Noguchi!
