Thanks for doing this test. I'm going to bring a propane torch that I use for my charcoal grill to heat up the steel and see how-well/how-long it helps the targets pop.

I've got something like this that I think would work nicely. www.homedepot.com/p/Flame-King-100-000-BTU-Propane-Torch-Kit-Heavy-Duty-Weed-Burner-with-Flint-Striker-YSNPQ1000T/317191753

Cool idea, we hit’m with a weed burner for just a little bit and that works. Maybe it decreases the heat treatment a little bit, but they’re still working. Thanks for the video 😎👍

You'd have to heat it for a LONG time before you got warm enough to affect the heat treat so I wouldn't sweat it.

I would be interested at black hot/ white hot comparisons in video. I've noticed in winter, which is when I coyote hunt, it's different, sometimes target on black hot shows up white, and white hot shows black. I have to use torch since I don't leave targets out full-time. But then for precision zeroing I get too much bloom. It can be frustrating, also just realized I was losing the crosshair color and was missing left or right because I wasn't dead on. I recorded my zero session and after 4yrs hunting with thermal I just discovered this. It explains my inconsistencies. Love your targets and loved a video watched of yours on zeroing when I then learned just how small their body was and why I didn't have kills. What an expensive learning curve of wasted ammo I've done over the yrs, from constantly struggling on zero changes and missed educated yotes.😢 Very interesting at end with color contrasts and backdrops. Wish I would have found out about you in 2019. 😂

Nice Test. Looks like the ceramic helped a smidge, but maybe not enough to bother with. Will stick with black targets and white targets. Between the two, I have my bases covered, it would seem.

My thoughts exactly. Definitely not worth the hassle. I leave my coyote out back painted black with a white vital.

The reason that the weld is black is that it is angled towards the sky, which essentially reflects the thermal signature of outer space (i.e., very cold). You can get better contrast on your highly reflective targets by angling them skyward by 20 degrees or so.
