Very nice. I would definitely like to have an external preset bpm readout for the El Cap.

Does this require TRS cable or will a normal cable work?

hey Curtis cool mod. I did this myself a couple years ago on my El capistan it's definitely crucial if you want to use the favorite switch and sync the pedal with other pedals. you do need more of an advanced tap Tempo at all though cuz the El capistan tap does not play well with others

If the mod is done properly it will work with just about any passive controller or smart controller. It just has to be isolated and receive a momentary normally open tap signal. :)

DS Guitar Engineering how do you isolate it in a passive external tap that is wired with several tap input Jack's? I have tried everything.

Just put a small signal diode in series with the positive side of the tap input. That's the black wire on the tap switch. The anode goes towards the PCB and the cathode connects to the tap switch and the tip of the external tap jack. That will isolate the El Cap's 3.3V logic from any other device that uses 5V logic. I use 1N4148, but any small signal diode should work. :)

DS Guitar Engineering just to confirm would I place the diode in my external tap or somewhere on the El Cap?
I built an external Jack on the El Cap that literally connects right to the existing tap switch. Its just two wires connected to a jack. I then connect a cable from that Jack into an external tap input. The external tap pedal has three inputs, the El Cap uses one of them.

Everything you've done is fine. All you have to do is disconnect the original black wire from the tap switch and splice the diode to it. Connect the anode to the wire and connect the cathode (the side with the stripe) to the footswitch lug.
