So Colm can scream now too. The man has no limits to his voice... What's next, is he going to admit to us that he also beatboxes. Amazing version of the song and expression of talent.
Colm having good technique in a wide range for vocal areas probably makes learning other parts a lot easier. Beatboxing would definitely be a lot different but I bet he could learn it really fast having good control already.
To play devil's advocate, I didn't know I could scream until I was about 25-27. I even did 4 years of varsity marching band, wrestling, and cross country. Didn't know I could actually, genuine get that bass in my voice until I had 2-3 kids. Now I practice thrash and black metal with my husband to keep him on key. I don't have the best voice ever, but it is a voice that's on key. 4 years of marching band, 6 years of all county, and 2 years of all state gave me a great ear, just not a horribly pleasant voice.

Okay I was wondering if I heard a hurdy-gurdy and then I saw it and yes. I cannot express the yes. Everything about this song is beyond perfect, from the vocals to the instruments. Colm is a modern bard capable of anything and I love it.
Another cover of an amazing song from the people i can call my own and if it will be in Old Norse it will hit close to home. Knowing you Colm, we listeners will not be disappointed. Keep up your work and god bless your voice i want it so badly. Edit: After hearing this i can truly say that it brought warmth to my cold Scandinavian heart. Hearing you sing with such passion and power in a language that layed the foundation for the language i can call my own. Really amazing work on this one Colm. Worthy of a seat in Valhalla and the halls of Odin.

Hey guys! This poem, Þat mælti mín móðir, was written in approx year 917 by my great great great... (repeat "great" 26 times hehe) grandfather Egill Skallagrímsson. I am his direct descendant 28 generations up (like probably a large chunk of Icelanders alive today, haha). Egill Skallagrímsson was born in Iceland in the year 910 and is the main character in one of the most famous Icelandic Sagas, "Egils saga Skallagrímssonar". He was the son of Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson, who emigrated from Norway. They settled in the West of Iceland and the farmhouse Borg is where they made their home. The small town of Borgarnes, a stone's throw away bears the name of farmhouse. Egill was quite the character. At the tender age of 7, he was playing sports with the neighbour's kid, Grímur Heggsson that was a strong 11 year old, and Grímur was giving Egill a hard time so Egill just killed him. As you do... haha. That's what vikings do. haha. After this his mother told him he would make a fine viking and Egill wrote this poem on that occasion. It should be noted that the Icelandic language has changed very little since that time. Here's Egill's original poem (1st vers), followed by the modern Icelandic version: Þat mælti mín móðir, at mér skyldi kaupa fley ok fagrar árar, fara á brott með víkingum, standa upp í stafni, stýra dýrum knerri, halda svá til hafnar hǫggva mann ok annan, Það mælti mín móðir, að mér skyldi kaupa fley og fagrar árar, fara á brott með víkingum, standa upp í stafni, stýra dýrum knerri, halda svo til hafnar höggva mann og annan, Þorsteinn Kolbeinsson
One of Loki's nicknames was "fire hair". I can't help but feel but he's somehow channeled in the screams of this song. Freaking AWESOME rendition of this song!! Gave me the chills!
Still listen to your old norse cover on a daily basis and I really can't wait for this one. Gotta admit, I never really listened to a lot of metal so I'm just getting into this genre but the combination sounds great:)
I love Colm's first cover of this song. Simply performed, and all the more beautiful for it. The old Norse version is haunting and powerful, wonderful show case of Colm's lower range. Then there this, I'm not even sure what to say about this third cover but I had a big smile on my face the whole time. A stunning piece of work!
I have been listening to this on repeat since the premier, and I have to say, this song is powerful and already one of my favorites. Thank you Colm for making such amazing and breathtaking music for others to enjoy.
this version is so-so norse-epic that it couldn't be spoken! music is incredible, voice and all it's changes are gourgeous - and visuals, icluding makeup, are just amazing. thank you for this art, it was all i needed tonight.
I'm late to commenting but..........................wow. This is my favorite style of this song by far. I was very surprised when you shifted from the clean vocals to the screaming lyrics. I was taken aback by the transformation of your makeup as well. Showed the intensity of metal in a wonderful display. Awesome as usual!
So, "fun" fact: this was never a sea shanty. It was a poem written by the Icelandic viking and poet Egil Skallagrimsson, about what his mother told him after he killed his bully at the age of seven, which resulted in a family feud which killed six more people.
