Imagine an AWACS flying up, detecting all the enemy radar signatures, sending the locations to these rocket artillery trucks, and getting hit from 310 miles away with no real warning.
Using a non ballistic path, so there is pretty much no chance of interception.
Sadly for the bad guy its true!
As a Mission Crew Commander Air Battle Manager on AWACS, yes, yes I can.
Actually that's what the F35 does. It is fully networked and two F35's working together can gather more data upfront that AWACS and communicate in theater to the asset needed.
The old M270 (the tracked version of this) that came before was the origin of the term "steel rain". The 12 rockets containing cluster munitions it fired would literally delete an entire grid square.
That was a fun job in the 80s -
It kills me that HIMARS is "the thing" now when I was on a Launcher (M270) that was Version 4 back in the 80's and early 90's and no one knew who we where.
The HIMARS and the m270a1 are the exact same system for the most part except m270 is tracked and can fire 12 rockets or 2 missles prior to loading new pods with the LLM.
@@primoxxl71 we built it so well back then that it was unnecessary, and now it's just getting a real chance to spread its wings.
Granted, the missiles and guidance systems have been upgraded I'm sure, but we were building stuff to beat what the Russian SAID they could do, and now we're realizing 40 years later that they were so full of shit that they STILL can't do what they said they could then.
What's up with these LONG ass job titles? "Program executive office missiles and space strategic and operational rockets and missiles project office project manager"
"Program executive office missiles and space deputy program executive officer". It sounds like someone asked ChatGPT to make up as long a job title as possible
Now imagine the guy's parents were from Mexico and gave him one of those long personal names. Everyone would call him plus his title Bob because everyone would be sick of him every time he introduced himself.
It explains what they do and where they work
@@AbruptandOffensiveMost people will forget half of it before getting to the end though.
The job title, "Death from Afar", tends to put ppl a touch off
Launch speed is are twice the speed of sound in 13 feet. A reload takes between 3 and 5 minutes.
Seriously??? Mach 2 at 13 feet from launch!!!???
@@christopherwelsh7008 5000 mph in 2.5 secs in the 1980s- In my time
@@showaltermicro Thanks! Your figures from the 80's are certainly impressive, but if Mack 2 is about 1500 mph, I have a hard time to reconcile that it is attained in the first 13 ft, -unless... Is there is some kind of "Ballistic charge" that blasts the missile out of the tube in addition to the thrust of the rocket? Something like that could get you high velocity is a hurry. Rocket thrust alone would be a constant force (therefore constant acceleration from zero) over that 2.5 seconds, and could never get 1500 mph in 13 ft. for an object that must weigh several hundred pounds. I need a physics major to chime in with an equation, or I won't be able to sleep tonight.
@@christopherwelsh7008I don't remember the actual thrust but the standard rockets are solid fuel and only burn 1 speed, wide open. The thrust to weight ratio is way high. I separated in 1999 so I can only depend on memory from 25 years ago, but I was Cadre at Critz Hall for 2 years and 3 in Germany on line, 4 years on line at Ft Hood. At that time the range on standard rockets was around 30 miles so all this is kind of new to me.
In theory only one person can run a HIMARS system from reloading, driving, launching.
They don't miss. GPS guided with Max Ord of 40K feet. Straight down on the target. They never hear or see it coming. USMC used in Iraq & Afghanistan. Savage & Lethal.
GPS can be jammed. However, jammers must produce a lot of electronic signature to jam something and something with an anti-radiation sensor can destroy the jammer.
@@orlock20We've developed systems to bypass GPS restricted areas a while ago. Almost all new weapons we are developing are designed with a fallback system if GPS coverage is disrupted.
@@orlock20I’m pretty sure most modern missiles, especially U.S. missiles have predetermined flight path till like right above the target for last second redirecting. So basically, jamming would barely affect it and just make you a priority target for the next strike
A lot of countries have realized the potential of precision rocket artillery after its usage in Ukraine. Many NATO countries are looking into buying HIMARs now, such as Poland.
It actually surprises me Poland doesn’t have them already. Since they’re basically becoming a little European Texas now 🤣
Poland was looking to buy 500 HIMARS. Poland just bought 800 JASSM-ER. Idk how many AMRAAM. 90 Apache helicopters.
@@everypitchcounts4875They aren’t preparing for war, they’re preparing to win
That first HIMARS shown firing? 272nd Regional Support Group, Alpha Co, 182nd Field Artillery Battalion, Michigan National Guard. The Battalion JUST returned home from a year long deployment to the UAE. That's one of my "tism's", I read bumper markings. @1:32 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery, 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Wisconsin National Guard.
Vehicle is sealed against rocket exhaust - you don't want to breathe that shit in. The nice thing about that system is that it's a pod of missiles and they have a crane to reload - which is significantly faster then the russian and the older chicom systems.
HIMARS is a tough piece of equipment…nice it’s fired, the truck is on the move in seconds. Hard to target something that fires and moves that quick.
One of the peculiar attributes of the F-35 is the ability to communicate with several independent systems electronically. This gives it a much higher kill rate than conventional fighters.
LINK-16 are on many U.S. craft including the latest version of the Apache. The F-14 was the first U.S. aircraft to have multiple targeting ability.
We used to call it peace through superior firepower. MLRS and HIMARS mean no need to apologize
When I lest the Millitary the just come out with the Himars System.
And it was a pure bad ass weppon.
They have shutters they have to pull down so they aren't blinded by the light of the rocket blast
The himars was created in the late 80s and was first given to the us military in the mid 90s. The atacms are able to reach the max distance but only certain variations are capable to make.
"Only 7 meters in length" - remember in the US we used to build passenger cars that were 6.4 meters long... lol. 🙂
I was regular artillery in the us army. 13B. The Fire command giving by the chief is kind of like... doctrine determined. It needs to be the command of fire along with the visual hand/arm signal "the karate chop" It's kind of a keep people out of jail thing if someone were to fire without the actual command being given if you catch the drift.
The ranges they give are the GUARANTEED 10 m CEP range. It can hit much further. It takes 5 minutes to unload a expended pod and reload an fresh pod. FIVE MINUTES. PRsm has a longer range, bigger whallop, and faster.
I might add that you've never had fun until you scraped the exhaust residue out of the LLM after live firing.
I was in one highest ranked artillery units in the U.S. for over 8 years. I dealt with both the MLRS and HIMARS. Anything you'd like to know I can tell you.
The order book for HIMARS must have exploded
In 2018 I had the opportunity to be trained on this asset this weapon, and when it first came out, it was 90 miles and then eventually it’s actually a little bit more than what they advertise. It’s accuracy is absolutely unrivaled in artillery. It will shoot actually 300 miles.
Russian military leadership was following not far behind the front lines during the early part of the war in Ukraine along with a lot of the military supplies. Since Ukraine has gotten some HIMARS, Russia moved their supplies and leadership much farther away from the frontlines because they started losing officers when their command posts started getting hit by missile attacks along with supply depots. If you go back and look at the news about the war, you'll see news reports of generals and other high ranking officers being taken out not long after Ukraine gets the HIMARS. Ukraine has shown they are good at tracing radio and internet signals to figure out command locations, they just didn't have artillery with good enough range at the start of the war to utilize that information.
yeah...reminds me of that one report of the Russian General who forced his Unit to assemble in close formation like they were getting ready for a parade, 243 killed from a Himars attack. (Ukraine spotted it with a drone, got the cords, sent a missle)
😂 when u were asking what the turn around was for changing the rockets then ppl find out we don’t change the rockets. It’s a whole module u take off and slap a new one on. I spend 4 years operating the himars they are a beast of a system
5:55 LOL at the frowny-face painted on the truck. :D
Remember, this is old, I mean very old U.S. tech the millitary has.
About 540 M142 Himars have been built to date the us only has around 180 thus far but a goal of 900 total for the US military by 2030.
I miss the military every day.
"Best job I ever had".
@@TheRagratus even the BS could be endured cause you had your buddies who all agreed that *blank* was BS. lol
It doesn’t miss.
And it tucks nicely into a C-130.
The spicy bonk
Preloaded pods make for quick reloading
Impressive weapon system, looks very versitile. Also check out the Swedish RBS 16 Gungnir anti ship system.
I'm proud that you like the United States Marine Corps' improvement on the old 1970s version from the Army, the MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System).
Himars = grid square remover.
I believe the latest HIMARS rockets are 200+ miles of range now, closer to the 300 mile range mark already. I believe the Marines have been retiring their Abrams tanks for a bunch of these to use in the Pacific.
yes and no. possibly tankers who still want to stay in will get sent to Arty, but mostly they'll just be pushed out the door. But on that note, the Himars isn't even the most dangerous Mid-level missle truck they and the Army are getting. now picture that same truck the Himars uses, except with a 4 pack of Tomahawk cruise missles. 🤔 Since Sta- I mean Putin dissolved the SALT treaty. we are no longer regulated on how many medium missle carriers to possess. So Army and Marines are getting stocked up on Himars, MLRS, and the new Tomahawk missile truck. (Marines stationed on the Philippines, can hit into China with those Tomahawks for reference)
@@nadjasunflower1387 yeah, similar to the russian Iskander system, we'll reintroduce our medium range theater ballistic missiles, as well as things like a land fired tomahawk.
Many people are now calling the Himars “Sniper Artillery”
PRSM can go further than 310 miles (or 499 km). There was some treaty with Russia limiting range to that distance. When we fired it out over the Pacific for a maximum distance test the official report was that it went 499km then 'lost communications' lol
RU quit the treaty with the US so those limits no longer apply.
@@pauldunecat Understood. We still didn't want to openly state the range beyond that for whatever reason, though.
6:43 IT is 80s-90s tech so I'm sure it's public by now
If you think this is wild, look up the Rapid Dragon system. Thats a terrifying weapon.
I miss being a gunner on these and MLRS. HiMARS is crazy with what it can do, to include raid missions rolling off C130s.
It’s an expensive weapons the battle is made out of titanium and the support for the targeting ASIC park doesn’t always come with it. Do you need that support from Lockheed Martin that’s not give it away to other countries, but it is absolutely a game changer and it has completely decimated significant targets in the Ukraine and Russia.
If you think HIMARs is insane you should look into the NEMESIS variant of it currently being tested.
Check out the storm shadow cruise missile with a range for 400 km, its also used in the Ukraine war
can they play doom on it? XD that made me bust out laughing
its called a knive hand !~
And us Americans wonder why everything is so expensive and why we never technically own anything 😢
Most people don’t know this but the USMC also uses the HIMARS.
Edit: Just saw the part of the video where it says Army and Army National Guard and US.Marines.
The rocket boxes are reloaded away from thw truck as you can see the box is removed and replaced with a loaded one in about 15 to 20 min. Ready to go again. Ain't technology wonderful
The US Military wants the world to know what will happen to them if they ask for it.
You should do a video on MARSOC Marines, they're pretty similar to the Royal marines. I'd say they are the US equivalent. And yes, I do have this comment saved to my Clipboard so I can keep putting on every video LO. L.
I would say the 75th ranger regiment
Ive been trying to geth im to do the F-35 video from real engineering lol. or a video about the YF-23 black widow II
12:08 It's not even a question of "Could one country beat the U.S.?". It should be "how long can one country survive the U.S.?". Keep in mind 3% of the U.S. GPA is in the U.S. millitary, which is around $800 billion, imagine if it went to 10% or even 50%.
Would love to see you react to the NASAMS
i know it actually stands for "High Mobility Artillery Rocket System" but with the Ukraine war going on i prefer to call it the "High Mobility Anti-Ruzzian System"
Hi - mars
Say it like High - Mars
Just For that mysterious UA-cam algorithm thingy 👍🏼 2:38 Now thats a title and half for a job 😂
Well since the United States is basically a teenager now based on her age. This is what happens when are digital, and the rest of the world, for the most part is still analog looking at Russia and Putin. Better technology will almost certainly destroy larger numbers of antiquated military equipment. I am grateful that the United States, we believe in the concept of less is more thusly with the weapons we have currently it does show how that is a sound strategy. I am not saying that we do not need boots on the ground, just not as many as we once did. Russia is finding out the hard way that shear numbers will not cause a nation state to fold and surrender, once given the tools to follow the less is more model, it shows the true value and utter devastation of that concept.
While that is part of strategy the other half is more.
If 100 units is sufficient to take on the enemy, we send 1000 just in case. Overwhelming firepower superiority is kind of our thing.
US does quality and quantity. More is better, ask Wagner about what happened in Syria.
The pod that they are in is switched out. The rockets get replaced into the pod elsewhere. They fire telephone poles for training rounds. I used to be a Fire Direct Control Specialist for artillery in the US Army.
I expected this to be an impressive so of tech but the fact it can also shot out a sea and hit a moving target at least 300 miles out if far more impressive than i expected. Sure others have sad it already but these are just the public specs.
You should watch The Insane Engineering of the F-35B by Real Engineering.
this is nothing,, upgraded version is even more lethal
@ great being a US citizen
check out the SMART torpedo's and the THRUST VECTORED BEAST
It's basically a lighter, more highly mobile version of the M270 MLRS. The rockets come in pre-loaded magazines, and, it takes about 4-5 minutes to reload with a magazine of 6 rockets.
I served as a HIMARS marine, I enjoyed my time on the system both as a gunner and a chief.
Oh and btw, you wanna know more cool stuff about the HiMARS, I'd watch the Unsubscribe Podcast episode where Habitual Linecrosser was a guest. Shit is absolutely BUSTED in air dominance warfare!
Huntsville Alabama's Red Stone Arsenal is working on AL drones that can decide their own targets as according to their mission perimeters.
AI drones...sorry for the typo
In 1986 the rockets could reach a speed of 5000 mph in 2.5 sec - that may have changed over time.
The HIMARS systems in Ukraine have been so effective that there are bounties out for the evidence & destruction of the Trucks. They have been a major factor in the success of eliminating HVT’s during the war along with ammo supply lines and Forward Operating Bases. The HIMARS has quite literally been a game changer in todays military
Is a well documented fact that if you don't say FIRE! with the hand of death the artillery will not hit as hard.
Why fight up close when you can stand off and take out the other guy before he knows what hit him? BTW, the reason they cost so much is because they don't miss.
Country send build weapons, and then re-purpose and adapting better than United States
Am surprised you didn't notice/comment on one of the HIMARS painted nickname in the vid, "FAMINE". It made me "gulp", and say "ah sh1t". The definition of famine in the Christian Bible: Famine was seen as both punishment and opportunity. Ouch. If your enemy was weak due to a crappy crop "well yes we'll be by to take everything you own and take your women." So Hellfire raining down on you is what those guys are saying, hells yeah...
The newest version has a range of 1000 kilometers but I don’t know if in service yet.
Operations Room is a banger channel. Reacting to any of the episodes would be great but Desert Storm is what got me hooked. Insane logistics for that one.
Clearly hasn't spoken or watched any of Habitual Linecrosser have you? I'd give him a bit of a look as HLC is active US Army and is an Air Defender (HLC's job).
The new PrSM are getting an anti-ship variant as well those have a minimum range of 300 miles. New USMC systems: NMESIS, Dark Eagle, Typhon.
That thing can kill something from where i'm at now all the way to Chicago. My lord that thing is no joke.
The damage Himars did to the russian backline was insane it stop them and made their commands go outside the range of Himars ❤🇺🇦🇺🇸
In russia conflict, Ukraine is using them as "fire and flee". They arent there anymore when russia shoots back.
Imagine if you could combine the Patriot system and the HMARS. Say be able to hook up a anti aircraft radar system to it and have anti aircraft missile "cartridge" so it could be reloaded a little faster.
OH if you love this channel for military equipment, check out Matsimus he's an artilleryman formerly with the UK army, and currently with the Canadian reserves. He does a lot of content similar to this, but in more detail. One of the best channels by far, he has done a video on damn near everything out there.
310 miles if you’re gonna drive that at 60 miles an hour it’s a long drive lol. And then thinking most rockets are 2000+ miles per hour by the time you launch it and the smoke clears the targets already been hit. That’s the crazy partis how fast and lethal and accurate they are. Sounds like fun until you’re on the other end.
Yeah they sitting in it that cab is damn bunker lol oh yeah and they are now put on aircraft carriers
This is our free health care. And im strangely okay with that lol
BIG rockets. Holy sh.t!!
and this was always an issue for Russia who said they are offence weapons not defence which the u.s and nato has always stated before the ukraine war... lol another red line that the west doesnt talk about. this whole thing was a build up. the west are hypoctires
if you think thats impressive just imagine if you loaded the flight deck of an ford class cv full of himars planted it off the coast of russia with enough reloads to make a warhammer 40k orc blush at the ammount of dakka and just gave the grunts permission to go nuts you would have to redraw the maps a bit afterwards i bet
MOR DAKA !!!
-Rah ! -
Yes, it can run doom. Easily
We’ve only got a little over 400 Himars in service right now apparently. Prolly less now since they like to send them to Ukraine.
Not one HIMARS was destroyed in Ukraine in the first 6 months or so they were on the field. I have not looked since then, but the Russians cannot find them to destroy them!
Remember, the HIM is for high mobility! They shoot and scoot less than a minute later. If you aren't looking at them (with your missiles ready) at the second the fire, they will have a minute or two AT LEAST to move a mile or more from where the rocket was fired. No artillery blows up that big a footprint.
Also, the Ukrainians amused themselves making wooden mockups to decoy the Russians from the first day they put them into service. At one point the Russians claimed to have destroyed something like 2x the total number sent to Ukraine! Then the stupid Russians stopped bragging once they realized how badly wrong they were and the Ukrainians showed footage of blown up wood models.
Pretty badass uh
You were impressed with the connectivity between the HIMARS and the F35, look into how our Patriot air defense system works. It's also being used to great success in Ukraine.
Himars are already in Oekraïne in 2023 June, Himars has made no difference in the outcome in this war
HIMARS Rockets travel at Mach 2.5
Just remember, if they're ADMITTING to 310 miles, it's probably realistically threatening out to at least 400 miles. It would be idiotic of any military channel or information supplier to put forward fully accurate information to a forum that is publicly accessible from anywhere in the world.
Mostly found spawn camping in BF4.
A comment. Possibly third. Possibly not. Anything is possible.
You should react to German weapons videos really cool
Hi mars
