    CHEAP AUSTRALIAN MID-PIPE FOR GSXR! The guys who sell Screamin Demon exhausts for the DR650 say they will sell the mid-pipe separately for AUD180. Bargain! We don't know how far it will push the exhaust to the rear though. Let us know: www.xtremperformance.com/products/dr650-se-1996-2021-screaming-demon-s-s-s-o-oval-exhaust.html

    I loved the DR500 with a different carb, the subsequent models not much. I admire Gordon's dedication to the DR650 though. Unleash the beast. Until Harley's are quiet I couldn't give a crap how loud my bikes are.

    I did what you said a few years ago. What a difference. I got the gsxr 1300 muffler. Works great with the Procycle mount. I have a extra 1300muffler I’m in Texas Dallas Ftw

    Really taking a good look at the Dyno sheets: Massive improvement to the torque curve….
    Beyond the overall improvement on area under the curve, the stock setup has that massive dive in torque at around 4500 rpm which is the rpm you’d probably be aiming for on the trail when you want the power to come on. So you probably really feel that lack of power right when you want the bike to accelerate. The modded setup has a much nicer rounded hill with the peak torque lining up nicely with the off road getup and go RPM of 4-5k rpm

      +BBQ Rider did you get the smaller lighter 40, bbq rider? i've got the 35 and while a bit louder she's definitely way quieter than any aftermarket pipe. makes me wonder if someone modded your gixxer can?

      ADVENTURE OZ
      I actually have no idea which one is on mine. It doesn't seem to have any relocated brackets or anything, so if there is one that bolts straight on, it should be that one. I bought the bike like this, with the stock anchor...erm.."exhaust" as a spare part

    Wow! Your friend Gordon (technically, shouldn't that be "Gordo" in the Australian language? Or does it remain "Gordon" because he's Canadian, Eh? Or is that Hey? I just cannot keep up with the Commonwealth! LOL!!) is totally into the big DR! Which is good of course, for those of you also into the bush pig. But that dude's even got a DR frame to use as a jig for making up the mid-pipes?! Way cool! ...Especially for a hoser from da Great Wyte North. Eh... Or Hey.

    that is some great work on the pipe, but I think most people don't have the skills to weld like that or have the tools readily available :-( For me it would probably work out cheaper in the long run to get a Staintune pipe as I wouldn't have to pay for someone to do all the extra work needed. I tell you what though, this makes me want to learn how to weld better though ;-)

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  9 років тому +1

      +Andy Pandy Motovlogs true andy, many will find just buying stuff easier.... but gordon did point out most guys will know someone with good welding skills who will probably enjoy the challenge and the carton of beer you'll present him with if it all works. :)

    Anyone know if this exhaust mod can be done on a DR 350 with same results?

  • @Xeil
    @Xeil 9 років тому +2

    I don't even want a DR650, but this series is interesting if the off chance I happen to adopt one. That exhaust mod makes a lot of sense. Is it relatively cheaper than aftermarket or close to the same after everything is said and done?

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  9 років тому +1

      +Gnarlington it all depends on whether you buy a mid-pipe or make your own, and which GSXR muffler you are after. e.g. a mid-pipe is US$185 from procycle or you can weld up your own with around $50 in stainless steel parts. the GSXR mufflers can vary from $20 to $100 depending on whether you get the common #25 or the quite rare titanium #40. so it's not necessarily cheaper but i think it's the way to go if you don't want that loud exhaust note.

      @Adventure Oz. I've finally got around to finishing the bst and exhaust mods to my DR. I managed to pick up a very cheap gsxr exhaust and I must say it sounds awesome, and the improvement in performance is noticeable. The only downside is that I've list 20km of fuel range around town. Though in all honesty this may be due to riding a little quicker....

    Why take a heavy ugly muffler (DR oem) and replace it with only a slighter lighter and slightly less ugly? Not to mention you spend money for the midpipe. You can buy an ENTIRE Delvic system for under $300 USD.

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  7 років тому +3

      look up the data, the GSXR pipe is up to half the weight depending on which one. AND it's still quiet. i haven't heard of the delvic but the vast majority of aftermarket mufflers are too loud for most riders.

    nice videos man! I've been thinking to buy one of these but it's a '93 and the weigth turns me off about these bikes... I mean about 170 kilograms is a shit load of weight especially since I've only owned and ridden 2stroke motocross bikes so far and they weight in about 90 kilograms. I would get the bike for cheap tho, because the piston blew after rebuild. I'm not sure if I should buy the bike or not. You seem to have fun with it and even has some potential for extra power. What do you think? the owner asks about 400€ for the bike.

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  7 років тому +1

    @fnq-8890 9 років тому +2

    Whats with the quite exhaust stuff? Bikes and especially singles should have a bark to them, I don't get this??? You can really feel a engine through the bikes sound and the quieter it is the harder the it is to feel, everything about your videos are fantastic and the riding footage is amazing but this I just get, bikes are made to 'crack'!

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  9 років тому +6

      +Classics a lot of adventure (and road) riders wind up with permanent hearing loss... much of this is from wind noise through the helmet but a loud exhaust plays it part. ear plugs are the main answer but a reasonably quiet bike helps. a lot of guys prefer a loud bike but many of us like it reasonably quiet but with a good note!

      Late reply here, but I need to put in my two bob's worth.
      1) The "straight through" after market exhausts are nothing but cop magnets.
      2) They annoy the neighbours, which I guess is OK if you don't like them, but I'm fond of my neighbours
      3) Those "straight through" after market mufflers suaually make top-end power at the expense of low end grunt.
      4) These mufflers don't need repacking
      5) They sound great.
