i honestly love how she flips between chinese and english mid-sentence.
It’s oddly endearing for some reason lol
最好的办法就是真正正正地去中国待一阵子,不用多长时间你的中文就会突飞猛进。环境很重要。
I love that too
and she speak Chinese and English in the same feelings and same style like she is bilingual since born, this is so amusing.
She speak Chinese (second language) faster than her English (native language) 😂
Yes 🙌 this is my goal ngl
Speaking very fast can be kind of unpleasant to listen to. Depending on context. Besides it can even be considered unpolite in some cultures.
@@sufeiya3794 is it impolite with mandarin? i heard ppl say Chinese is a fast speaking language... but i thought it was spanish hmm
Excuse me,but "She speaks.....
It might just be that the language itself is speedier, because there are some that when compared do tend to clock faster times on average, but I also think that people tend to hear foreign languages as incredibly fast regardless due to unfamiliarity (I don't know if it's a foreign language for you, of course).
My first chinese teacher used to say in order to really learn a character you need to forget how to write it 7 times. I think copying the character over and over it's good method but it's quite easy to forget it after even a short period of time. You should try to retrieve it from memory and write it down without looking at it. Also try and practice writing 1 character once then another character once and then go back to the first one, its a good way to strenghten your memory and speed up the forgetting process.
I don't even practice writing them characters haha. I just use a computer or phone.
Thanks for the advice! :D
没错,必须要忘掉的之前的语言才能学好第二种语言
I’ll try this. I usually write them 100 each one.
That is the essential skill, and that is how Chinese people learn a new character. We look at it, and we memorize it, at least memorized it for a short time. We memorize characters by components or the whole forms, not strokes. So I think it is important to train your brain to process "image". Another benefit is we can quickly identify a character, since we memorize it by the whole image not strokes.

Alots
There are quite many actually
As a Vietnamese i still find it hard to pronounce Chinese but you are an American whose language does not have intonations. I really admire you.
Are You A 越南人
As Vietnamese speakers, the only sounds missing in our native tongue is the Mandarin rhotic sounds, and certain semi-vowels with different intonations.
Other than that, *Vietnamese speakers should be able to say anything in any Sinitic language!*
vietnameseee :))
What I didn’t expect was she mixed Chinese and English in 1 sentence sooooo fluently , like the way some Vietnamese mix Vnm and English. :)))
@@jamiekellly9_7 Except when Jillian code-switches, it's out of fluency, but when a Vietnamese-American does it, it's out of incompetence, and failure to master either language!
Hi guys! As someone who has been studying Chinese for 7 years but has never been able to reach that fluency level the most important thing you have to do is go to China! Go for a few a months to speak Chinese all day everyday and after that you'll actually be able to comprehend Chinese fluently. Most fluent foreigners studied Chinese in China or lived there, if you only study Chinese in your home country, no matter how much you try you will not be able to become fluent. Chinese is not like studying English or Italian, you won't be able to speak like JJ or other UA-camrs without interacting and being exposed around mandarin on a daily basis. If you have the time and resources spend a few semester in a Chinese speaking city, it will be the greatest reward for yourself! Thank you JJ for the great video, your advises are incredible ❤︎
My friend went to study in Taiwan for 1 month. and besides that, he didn't live/study in China for a longer period of time. However, his ex was Chinese and his Mandarin is so good even Natives are reallyyy impressed. I went with my friend for the same trip to Taiwan and I have already worked in CS with Chinese customers (speaking in Chinese with them ofc) and had no issues with that.
I know many people who got scholarship and studied in China for 6 months/1 year but they were hanging out mainly with foreigners or they didn't want to study that much.
What I'm trying to say - you can learn the language, even when you're staying mainly in your country. It's maybe more difficult but not impossible.
@K C You are very right its definitely not impossible. For example, I lived in a small city and always had private or Skype lessons and the only person I practiced with irl Chinese was my tutor for 3h/week. Yes, I was able to study, memorize and learn 2000+ characters. However, my speaking abilities are 1/4 of what I can read or understand. And that was because I never practiced speaking enough and my tutors always told me that I need to go to china to have my tongue "untied". And another factor is that HSK does not include an oral examination and you don't "need" to work on that. What I mean is that if you go to a Chinese speaking country with the aim of actually speaking Chinese there then you're gonna take off 100 times faster and better that you would have anywhere else.
@@MK-sb3qi I totally understand. My point was that some of the people don't have an opportunity to study abroad or to go to China and stay there for longer period of time - like me for example :p They were and still are scholarships available but I can't go due to some personal reasons. I think it's important for people to know that if they put enough work, find some good Chinese friends it is still possible to speak Mandarin at good level.
@@WrongXNumber Look at this guy Moses Mccormick. He's never been to China but the reaction he gets from Chinese people in restaurants, malls and on the street, his Mandarin is excellent. He is self taught and knows about 49 other languages. He has some great level ups on youtube.
Thx for your shitty piece of advice ms.Expert in language learning. If you have nooo idea on how to learn a language , and failed in it that doesn't mean that others will fail just like you.

WOW. Her chinese isn’t fluent. It’s Native.
It is really not native level, far from it...
No, her chinese is far away from native, because she can’t correctly prononce the différent tones and several rythmes. However, being a western foreigner, her Chinese sounds really fluent and amazing, I can understand all. It’s hard to correctly prononce every tone of every character I must say. Nevertheless when some Japanese learning Chinese, they prononce extremely perfect Chinese tones.. even Chinese people can’t figure out he/she is Japanese.
No you guys are just ignorant. Stop being jealous pricks about her fluency in chinese. Just accept that she sounds like a Native and go learn more languages yourself.

you can totally just practice listening and learn to speak. It's not an urge to write it at the same time.Chinese is not like English, character doesn't relate too much to pronunciation.Even a Chinese kid always masters listening and speaking first before school age and spends a few years learning how to write at school. That's the most native way to Chinese learning. And when you focus on writing, take it as an art.Every Chinese character has a story for you to explore, especially for traditional Chinese character.Feel free to ask me about Chinese learning,I am happy with that. From a native mainland Chinese.
Thank you for your comment
I have a question on the chinese characters,
If someone wanted to learn why a certain character is used for a certain word which material should i use,
You know instead of just coping and pasting and repeat the character over
But really understand why a certain character is used for a certain word
So You mean that learn characters is not as important to speak and understand fluently?,well that the way I am studing....
I find your videos useful for both English learners and Chinese learners, which I really enjoy!

Thanks for the tips, this was very useful. :) I had the goal of learning 3 new French words a day but I think I wasn't repeating them enough and I would abandon them when they'd inevitably be forgotten. I was thinking that maybe it might be even easier if I learn new words within the context of an expression? That might actually help me retain their meaning and how to use them, what do you think?
Me too... Been dreaming to be proficient in French. But always lack discipline and the environment to learn:(

She is so good in Chinese literature because she has had an internship in China. With this language environment, if there is no one around you who speak Chinese to you, you cannot learn it well. Just like I learn English. Your generation is English. Talk to me. I want to learn English.
I wish I had seen your video earlier. I'm at HSK 4 下 at the moment and my vocabulary is very limited because I didn't actively and deliberately look for new vocabulary elsewhere. Hey, do you have any tips for speaking mandarin? I always get tripped up on my words whenever I speak, plus I’m not sure how to put intonation separate to the tones themselves, if that makes any sense. Love the video ^.^
Don't try to hard to pronounce the tones. Most Chinese people are not pronouncing Chinese correctly. Not even pronouncing wrong, we are actually saying the wrong word. For example milk is niu nai, but I and others from Changsha pronounce it as liu lai. To us, we say l instead of n, even though we all know it's niu nai. My point is that you don't need to worry about pronunciation to be fluent. The person in this video does not sound like a native speaker because she puts too much emphasis on tones and it sounds unnatural. Don't worry about tones and just say the words naturally!
@@andrewzhang5345 I disagree a bit- If I speak Chinese to my friend and mess up the tones on a certain word, he has a lot of trouble understanding me. My advice would be to think of tones as "correct pronunciation" and as you get more comfortable in speaking, you can relax your speech over time so that you don't sound like a news anchorperson lol.
@@kevlo7624 like which words? You would have to butcher a word very badly for someone to not be able to understand you

Well to be honest writing characters is a completely what of time when you have the basics down.
Think about it, you learn 20 words a day, and you writing each of them several times. Multiply this by one year and this is a huge amount of time that could be spend on everything more useful.
Why is it useless then?
Because unless your profession or school need you to write characters you're not gonna do it in China. So the basics first 500 is enough.
2) you're gonna forget how to write unless you use srs which I don't recommend because overwise you're gonna spend much more time
Very useful! Thank you! 💓

I have a problem where even if I memorize words as soon as I put it in a sentence, I end up transliterating from English or using it in an awkward way instead of saying it how a Chinese would.
What should I do to say things like a Chinese? Also how do you remember the tones? Thanks xx
listening to a lot of tv shows/podcasts or reading is a great way to improve that. Find some at your level and actively pay attention to how they are structuring their sentences and how they say words, you don't always have to memorize their exact phrases but taking mental notes is helpful and eventually you'll start developing a feel for how certain things should be worded or said in Chinese because you're inputting so much. It's not a full proof method but it definitely helped me. Btw听故事学中文is a really good podcast for this :)

你中文已经很好了,不过有个问题就是每个字都发得太清楚了,有点用力过猛的感觉。有些地方如果能模糊一点,一笔带过会更好,这样显得更自然。
应该是她讲话的风格,唱歌的锻炼。她的英语也是 diction 非常清楚;UA-camr 的话这样讲话会让听众听得清楚。的确没那么自然,但一般学习第二语言都会有这种习惯,说清楚比吞音懒音好。
