Came for Massive Attack.
Stayed for Rosamund Pike.
Very pretty
Or, you know, er...the other way around... ...
I don't think I've seen a movie she's been in, but she is FANTASTIC here. It's a very authentic performance. This how almost anyone would behave when faced with something so completely outside of their conception of reality....BTW, aliens and abduction stories really freak me the fuck out!
She is outstanding in this.
Hmm... no i came twice for Rosamund Pike
She is Re-enacting the infamous Subway Scene as a Tribute to Issabel Adijan's role in Possession (1981)
Really? Interesting...
true, and original was.... well....
We're just missing the blood and goo coming out of her ears
I was looking for that comment
@Beat Fandango Agree, it definitely is a crossover between Possession and Phantasm. The flying sphere is such a cool contraption... I wonder if Coscarelli has seen the video, it's terrific.
What a sublime mix of fantastic art, Phantasm 1979, The Possession, 1981 and Rosamund Pike. Wow.
Nice observation 👌🏻
@@spinespindle9872 HOLY SHIT. I got Phantasm but you are on point about Possession!
Just saw Possession and immediately thought of this music video during that scene, glad I'm not alone. Guess I'll watch Phantasm next
alex garland must've taken some inspiration from this video for his film _annihilation_
Cannot believe y remember phantasm 😂❤
It always amazes me how well actors can react to an object that is not there, this really is an A+ performance from Rosamund Pike.
To be fair there's usually a stand in object that's removed in post. This was probably a green ball on a stick

Or it's digitally manipulated using CGI to mimic their movement tbf
@@Shrimp_Insurance Even more to the point: React to something completely silly-looking without breaking character.
What do you mean? This is not real? ohh
Rosamund Pike deserves an Oscar. She's a brilliant actress.
For this video?
For I Care A Lot.
I care a lot :D
She got the Golden Globe award. Ouch!
For I Care A Lot and for Gone Girl
rosamund pike is astounding a seriously brilliant actress.
She's fantastic!
You're awesome for knowing her name.. I like her too, but am not as good with names.
… also Moraine Sedai in the upcoming "Wheel Of Time" series.
Yes, but anyone can spaz out like this.
I am astounded watching this. About to Google how many awards this video won. It should be MANY. Props to the Director of this amazing video, Ringan Ledwidge.
Rosemund's performance is so mesmerizing that no one commented on the song itself :)
What song's that?
Indeed and the song is actually quite good
Song? What song? Is there any music??? 😏
Rosemund isn't her name that's for sure 😃
good because i didnt like the song

I would give Rosamund Pike an Oscar for this performance.
for real
hell yeah
way better than Still Alice.
+Melina Vera she wasn't in that
+Greg Christensen but SHE WAS in gone girl (against Julianne Moore in still alive)
Well that was intense and amazing.

Mark Mccormick you are allowed your own opinion whether it's right or mostly wrong.
+Toma “HeavyCake” Hawk I found the video well executed. In my opinion the video enhances and elevates the song, and that is what a music video is about.
+Toma “HeavyCake” Hawk well it is "Amazing Amy" after all

My last comment one here was 4 years ago, I still come back to this video ALL the time. It's so well shot, directed, acted, the music is so tight and ryhtmic and timed perfectly to what's happening on screen. This is a perfect merger of cinema and music.

Nice Disco Elysium avatar, a person of fine taste

For me, it’s modernising the demon from ‘possession’ as technology and Rosalind expresses how that shapes us and makes us become someone we sometimes don’t want to be and how it, over times, can damage us. More than that, the acting is amazing. The perfection of subtly hitting your elbow on a wall and getting startled by it to the panic stare she gives. My god, and of course… it’s massive attack, so 10/10 music. This is beautiful.
Andy Serkis did a great job playing the floating metal ball. Very convincing.

@@adammbowman I get your joke, but when a comment deserves far, far many likes than 420, the sacrifice has to be made.
For those who don't know, this is obviously an homage to the 1981 French film Possession. Rosamund Pike is wearing a similar dress to the one Isabelle Adjani wore in that infamous subway scene.
+HabituallyObsessed interesting but it's night here and it's scary

A big homage to Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession
The thing about homage is it doesn’t take a lot of imagination.
Yes! I thought the same thing when I saw the movie ;)
That's exactly what I thought too! Dang!
She's an amazing preformer. This video allowed her to show her range in such an unexpected way.
i knew she could act, but her physical performance is rather impressive. she should be in more action movies
Massive Attack has always been light years ahead of their time.
A light year is a measure of distance. ;)
And we measure time in distance; the distance from one moment's contribution to the same timeline that another moment shares. I thank you for your reminder, I almost forgot.

Actually they're not. This clip is heavily inspired by from a scene in the movie Possession played by Isabelle Adjani, wich was made in 1981. Not quite what you call 'light years ahead'.

This is definitely an homage to the films Phantasm and Possession. The silver ball for Phantasm and her dance/breakdown in and underground tunnel for Possession. Very nice!
I saw Possession for the first time yesterday and this video clip immediately came to mind.
I haven't seen Phantasm but combining 2 quotes in a single concept like this is a truly brilliant idea. Rosamunde Pike is truly an incredible actress. This track with this video is truly a huge masterpiece.

Look at "possession" (1981) With Isabelle Adjani, the Subway scene. I think this vidéo is an hommage to this infamous possession scene. They loved this movie I think :)
Wow Rosamund had conveyed Adjani's brilliant performance. An excellent tribute
One of the best, most intense music videos I've ever seen. Her acting/dancing/movement is incredible. Unerestimated as fuck.
If I remember correctly, the shoot lasted a couple of days. Although the team had built false walls to cushion her impacts but she was covered in bruises and could barely stand by the end. She didn't hold back.
Young fathers too
Weapon of Choice
Her performance in this video absolutely terrified me!! ....Incredible!!!😲😲😨😨😢😢😭😭👏👏👏👍👍👍😍😍❤❤

Rosemund Pike is our girl.. this is the definition of acting.. she's perfection. 🧡
Fast forward 7 years and this is still the most stunning performance I can muster up a memory of.
Pretty good modern MA track, but definitely one of those situations where the actor's performance elevates the material to extraordinary heights.
Reminds me of that scene in Possession by Zulawski where Isabelle Adjani goes batshit crazy in a subway tunnel.
its based on Possession and Phantasm

Young Fathers + Massive Attack = Excellence
Rosemund Pike just makes it all better
The music, the video concept and the acting. Gives me hope again.
That sound of the "ringing keys" that sounds in the begining and repeats in the background from time to time during the track is so damn cool.
This is the Black Mirror finale I was expecting.
no words her dance and feelings are so perfect GOSH
When a song makes a video & a video makes a song: both are better for each other...
This is one of the greatest music videos I've seen in along time. If it doesn't win some kind of award then there's no justice in the world. It's absolutely outstanding.
Agree.
+69crafty This may sound strange, but I'd REALLY like to see this developed into a movie. With Rosemund Pike of course, but no other headliners to keep it all about the story and less about the massive egos of Hollywood's actors and actresses. Well, except perhaps Scarlett Johansen. She was good in 'Lucy'. I could see her kicking ass on the forces that are sending these chrome ball drone things trying to take control of the human race.
+69crafty Really one of the greatest? How?
Because if you compare it to most other bland music video's around at the moment it's totally unique. It manages to grab your attention from the start. It's intense and has all the quality's of an actually film and a great performance from Rosamund Pike. It's like you've just stumbled into a really good Sci Fi/Horror film about half way through. That's how.
+69crafty I guess I can see that. Definitely not one of the greatest for me but I respect your opinion.

Rosamund Pike, enough said really ❤
She is one hell of a actress , what a top notch performance.
This was a brilliant first time experience: my first thought was Irreversible (Gaspar Noé, 2002), then when the sphere turned up I thought of Phantasm (Don Coscarelli, 1979), then when she went hysterical, I thought of Possession (Andrzej Zulawski, 1981) and Rosamund Pike reminded me of her psychotic performance in Gone Girl (David Fincher, 2014). What a wild, unnerving ride that was! Can't be coincidence, I'm sure. Great work by everyone involved.
It's a creepy video, feels like Black Mirror and all the works you mentioned. It's a very simple but creepy concept. The needle in the eye is so cringe. It disturbs me.
Dont forget cube 2: hypercube lol
She's seems sexualized by it....as she screams by it aswell
Imagine......how sinister if the wrong men (not just Russia / China....the evil in this damn world).....got their grubby hands on this type of thing......remote rape/assault/even murders in the future????..,etc with zero ability to track/trace who these slimeballs are...in the near future I'm predicting it'll become a thing😱😱😱

Wow, that was an amazing, physical performance! The more I see and hear her, the more I find her to be a truly amazing creature. Somewhere in her biography she must have received training as a dancer. This was a very physical, modern dance.
Likewise, cant help watching her closely once a month , awesome actress and dancer, scenery similar to the film Subway ...music cutting our soul’like à sharp knife. Pure torture
@@laurence.MusicAndSights I concur. She is a superb actress, nothing she does is vanity-building related (e.g., A Private War, The Wheel of Time), yet her beauty shines through nonetheless. Hostiles and Die Another Day were other physical movies for her. She is one of only two former Bond Girls to become award-winning actresses (other is Halle Berry). If you want a real treat, listen to her narrate books on Audible. Suggest you give Pride and Prejudice a listen among other books she narrates. She played one of the sisters in the movie.

Actually, Gone Girl was quite a departure from the usual roles she plays. She's been the wife/romantic interest far more times than I care to count.
The director asked her to do the video because she did *that* scene in Gone Girl, not because she always plays cray.

TBH this reminds me of Possession's (1981) Subway Scene. Actually, it is basically that scene. Nicely done

good observation. That`s exactly the movie I thought of when I saw this video. That was Isabelle Adjani, and I think she got the palm de or in Cannes for that performance.
The director of the video, Ringan Ledwidge, choose for chief inspiration the possession scene from the aptly named 1981 film "Possession", when directing the Oscar nominated actress Rosemund Pike. The floating mechanical ball featured in the video was inspired by 1979 horror/scifi film "Phantasm", which featured similar ghostly balls controlling helpless people's bodies.
