Thank you Maunalee for sharing, I enjoyed this very much. The vocals and the instrumental. Very nice. Love ya and thank you for sharing the laughter of your babies.🥰🥰🎙🎙❤✌💯
I love Larkin Poe. They are sisters from Georgia. They started out as a trio called the Lovell Sisters who played mainly bluegrass but over 10 years ago the oldest sister retired (believe she retired--I could be wrong but for whatever reason she no longer performs with them) so the two younger became Larkin Poe. They describe themselves as "roots music" which encompases everything from bluegrass, country, blues and rock. My fave original song by them is Trouble in Mind and they also do a killer Black Betty cover. On their chanel thery do a series called Tip o' the hat where they just do acoustic covers of songs that have influnced them--its been going on for ahile and they have covers of everything from Dolly Parton and Chuck Berry to AC DC and Black Sabbath--so between that and the fact their career spans over a decade there is a wealth of good music from them to explore.
They are an Americana Roots/Blues band. They are a VERY diverse sister duo that can pretty much play almost any genre. Their video catalog is very extensive. Their original music always very deep in the subject matters, and very thought provoking. The musicianship is always top-notch. Megan Lovell, the oldest sister, 31 years old, plays the Lap Steel, and Rebecca Lovell, guitarist/Lead Singer is 29 years old. Their vocal harmonies are about as good as anyone you'll ever hear. They are locked in! Rebecca's vocal pitch is incredible. Also, they pay tribute to all of their musical heroes and inspirations through stripped down covers that they do, just the two of them, in a video series that they call "Tip 'O The Hat" Everything from Hard Rock/almost Metal, to Folk and Soul and EVERYTHING in between. Classic tunes we all know and some much deeper catalog traditional blues songs. Their second to latest record debuted at #1 on the Blues Charts and was nominated for a Grammy. Here's a playlist that'll keep anyone busy for days! ua-cam.com/play/PLAOGal7pIOOjFmgnfF5rqPCJsORje73Lq.html
Both of their parents are medical doctors. They were homeschooled. They are classically trained, starting out on piano and violin. Eventually, they discovered folk music and bluegrass and, finally, evolved into blues/roots rock/Americana. Rebecca won a national mandolin contest as a teenager. Their first "big" gig was playing with Elvis Costello, of all people, when they were still teenagers! They had no idea who he was. They were at some music fesitval, and he was singing a song, and they just went up and started singing harmony to back him up. That blew him away, and he asked them to tour with him. Thus, history was made. So to speak. 😄
Your daughter is right it's 11 and not less.😇 Larkin Poe are two Blues Rock Sisters from Atlanta Georgia, now Nashville Tennessee. They are self producing. Their last 2 Albums, 'Venom and Faith' and 'Self Made man' we're Nr. 1 in the Billboard Blues Charts. With "Venom and Faith" they were Grammy nominated. Elton John says recently, that "Self Made Man" is badass and his favorite now. The Sisters Rebecca Lovell (Red Hair) and Megan Lovell are around 30 years old now and since 15 years professionell musicians. Please check any of their new coverversions or "Back down South" and "Holy Ghost Fire" both Official Videos from their new Album. 💞and☮️from Hamburg 🍔 Germany 🇩🇪
I saw them last week at the NY State Blues Festival. They were the headliners and they deserved to be. They owned the stage. It was the best birthday present I ever gave myself.
Love Larkin Poe, one of, if not the, best live acts I've seen. The blend between the two live surpasses what the majority do in studio. Rebecca's rapport with the audience is fantastic. They are indie, but are gaining traction. They have opened for Queen, Bob Seger, ZZ Top, and even toured with Elvis Costello in both Europe and the US as both opening act and back up band. The band is named after Larkin Haskew Poe, their great, great, great, great grandfather, who was a cousin to Edgar Allen Poe.
Their 2018 album "Venom & Faith" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. The whole album is fire, but I'd recommend "Bleach Blond Bottle Blues" to start with.
I think others have answered your questions but they were a trio of sisters as the Lovell sisters now there are two sisters and they do a lot of covers on UA-cam but they've got some great albums which are a combo of traditional covers and originals usually. They were nominated for a Grammy last year in the Modern Blues category. I'd categorize then as American Blues Rock, but it's kind of hard to really nail them down to a specific genre. They are very, very good and I love their albums.
Finally someone reacted to these awesome girls. Stumbled across them earlier this year, was blown away, especially by this song. Stay healthy, Greetings from Germany
Larken Poe is a Blues and Bluegrass band and well known in Blues circles and among Blues and "raw" music enthusiasts. What I mean by "raw" is real musicians who play an instrument, write, compose music, and perform (not simply "produce") their art.
I loved the whole thing. The vocals were really good. I like the combination of mandolin and slide guitar with some nice effects and the other instruments. The drummer was great. I’m glad to have been introduced to this group. Thanks🙏
Yes . The overlap when Megan switched to Lap Steel , while Rebecca still did Mandolin . ( Rebecca was excellent Mando player , but a steep learning curve on electric guitar .)
I agree with you, very attractive young ladies, loved the song and their voices. Would also like more from them, as I too have not heard of them before. That’s what is great about reactors, you get to hear all sorts of new vocalists and groups. ❤️🤘🇦🇺
I'm glad you checked this band out, the sisters are awesome, whether doing bluegrass or doing rock covers - I really love some of their covers, they recently did a whole slew of them that were all great. :) In 2019 they were on a KBTA Mediterranean Cruise with Joe Bonamassa and there are some great videos from that!
Hello, Maunalee. Just discovered your channel. The Lovell Sisters were originally a trio. They only performed as a trio from 2006 to 2009. Oldest sister Jessica (violin / primary lead vocalist) resigned from the group, got married and moved to Canada. The other two sisters renamed themselves Larkin Poe. As a trio, they played almost exclusively Bluegrass, although they took a few risks including covering a Jimi Hendrix song. I have a couple of their CDs from the old days, and I think they were excellent. My favorite song from the trio period is "When Forever Rolls Around." Unfortunately, the only copy of that song currently on YT is a live performance and the audio is kind of faint. I hope you can react to more of their material from each period.
The first time I hear them was a reaction video from Wings of Pegasus of them singing Jolene. I literally didn't sleep that night. YouTubing Larkin Poe. Listen to the venom and faith album videos
Thanks for that, Maunalee, I was not aware of them before. Just checked out their channel and will be going back to listen to more. Standing by to hear more reactions 👍
Hopefully almost 9 months later you have checked out more of their music. They are definitely in my top 10 bands in no particular order that I listen to on a regular basis. Their covers and originals both never disappoint. Now if you want to check out another sister band. SHEL is another in my top 10. ‘Enter Sandman’ was the cover that introduced me to them. They also have some really good originals. I was born a dreamer. Is the doctor in today.
Larkin Poe is amazing. Some more I’d like to seen review are Journey - Mother Father, Sam Cooke - Nothing can change this Love, Ingrid Michaelson - The Chain, Boston - Something About You, Jason Mraz - Absolutely Zero. Thank you! 🙏
I´m Norwegian -and they have been on my play list for 3 years - The name Poe is actually because the Larkin sisters are related to the great poet Edgar Allan Poe. Talented girls - I recomend this one ua-cam.com/video/cEWiJR9qeoc/v-deo.html "preaching blues" . The girls are from Atlanta, Georgia and they deserve a lot more fans. They´re getting some attension over here in Europe now.
Another great reaction Maunalee ! I really like Larkin Poe I think my favorite of theirs is "Look Away" Your kids are adorable by the way . Keep up the good work. I see that you have done a reaction to Samantha Fish so I know where I'm headed next !
Not only their great grandfather, but two generations earlier, Edgar Allen Poe, had his mental issues. Loved this group for a while. The slide guitar is killer, just enough off key to make the point. Sticking with the theme of bands local to the central east region, I'm suggesting the interesting band, Mandolin Orange. The way those two work with multiple instruments (hey, another mandolin--usually) is really good, and the combo of voices also interesting, like Larkin Poe in that regard. I suggest Golden Embers: (1) Mandolin Orange - Golden Embers - UA-cam
Listen to their cover of Son House's "Preachin' Blues" ua-cam.com/video/cEWiJR9qeoc/v-deo.html to get a good feel for the girls. Also, their original "Bleach Blond Bottle Blues" ua-cam.com/video/Wy0RGsd2-JA/v-deo.html.
If you can check out the Canadian band “Big Wreck” I strongly suggest & it’s the lead singers band which is Ian Thornley who has a side project band called “Thornley” as well but they’ve been outta the scene for awhile now but “Big Wreck” is something else especially if your a musician you will greatly appreciate this band!
You should hear Sweat by Tool. It's 1st track on their 1st official album, cos if you're not ready to Sweat, just leave the Tool in it's box 😆 you should hear Every Bird That Flies by Lakin Poe, too
Listen to their album Self Made Man. killer tunes. Also their cover album coming on november 20. Check out their covers of Night in White satin and Fly away.
Try "Trouble In Mind" ua-cam.com/video/l5dqS251D98/v-deo.html and "Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues" ua-cam.com/video/sGI_TWLl_UY/v-deo.html Just truly amazing!
Does this reviewer get the reference to "Paint the roses. Off with their heads"? Probably not. And she'll be really surprised when she hears more of Larkin Poe's music. And ... her Mom will probably like them.
It's been a year and you still haven't gone back into this Rabbit Hole 🙂. Try "Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues or Self Made Man or actually just about anything they've recorded
That's disappointing. I was hoping to see more Larkin Poe reactions by her. I don't know if she realizes this was a fairly old song and they don't dress like that any more. Also Mad as a Hatter is pretty unique within their catalog. Only more recent original that comes even close to this haunting style woukd be Ain't Gonna Cry.
Thank you Maunalee for sharing, I enjoyed this very much. The vocals and the instrumental. Very nice. Love ya and thank you for sharing the laughter of your babies.🥰🥰🎙🎙❤✌💯

Jessica left to plan her wedding and to go to College and Larkin Poe is named after there great-great-great-grandfather a cousin of Edgar Allan Poe.
I agee this deserves an eleven, for sure. They really scare me. They are this fantastic
at this age, what are they gonna do in the future!!!!

One of the most haunting songs ever. Unique in their catalogue....The sisters when they play their usual blues riffs are a wonder.
Your daughter is right it's 11 and not less.😇

This is the song that got me interested in Larkin Poe now I can’t get away from them Awesome they are just Awesome
You should listen more songs by Larkin Poe like Trick of the ligth, Don't,Look Away, they are amazing I am totally in love with these girls.
My favs! This haunting song and performance are only equaled by their killer blues-rock : ) I tear up every time.

Don't forget, they also played with Keith Urban and stole the show on Joe Bonamassa's "Keeping The Blues Alive" Mediterranean cruise last year.
Their 2018 album "Venom & Faith" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. The whole album is fire, but I'd recommend "Bleach Blond Bottle Blues" to start with.

Great channel, I love your passion & interest. The song “Don’t” is great by Larkin & Poe :-) cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I was introduced to them when they toured with Elvis Costello a few years back
check out the reactions of WIngs of Pegasus and Michael Palmisano!
Their name comes from their great, great, great Grandfather who was a distant cousin of Edgar Allen Poe

Megan's solo on "Well, Well" is amazing. Just ignore her little stumble near the end.
The Warning was a great rabbit hole to fall into but the Larkin Poe hole is deeper and more twisted
Hello, Maunalee. Just discovered your channel.

Thanks for that, Maunalee, I was not aware of them before. Just checked out their channel and will be going back to listen to more. Standing by to hear more reactions 👍
They're pretty much blues-rock, but yeah they have kinda Indies' vibe in some of their songs. I've been following them for a few years now.
I agree with the little one i give them 11!

Their EP from 2010 "Spring" really shows off their bluegrass roots.
Check out their version of Come Into My Kitchen!!
If you like blues, check out Hugh Laurie (yes the House actor), St James Infirmary. a very good New Orleans style blues cover.
Listen to Black Betty!
They are coming from Georgia, i guess.
I mean US State Georgia, not from Georgia, Europe.
They're from Calhoun, Georgia.
They're based out of Nashville now.
Any song, any album.
Try "Back Down South" and go from there.
Or "Keep Digging".
Check out their cover of Jolene, it's the best I've ever heard.
Larkin is the girls grandfather's name and they are related to Edgar Allen
Your daughter has great taste.
These girls are Edgar Allan Poe's great great great great granddaughters. Drummer is his great great great great grandson
Try "Trouble In Mind" ua-cam.com/video/l5dqS251D98/v-deo.html
