I Feed the Crows at my Pigeon Loft to Keep the Hawks Away

    There are 3 crows subspecies here and I feed them near the pigeon loft to keep the hawks away. They don't prevent hawk attacks on the flock when the pigeons are outside but prevent hawks (especially sparrow hawks) from coming at the loft and stressing the pigeons a lot.
    The crows are also a very good alarm, their flying style and sounds let the pigeons know when the hawk started an attack. This way they often ruin the hawk's ambush attacks.

    Funny! I do that too. The crows immediately see the hawk and raise the alarm.

    They can recognise your face so if you go outside and feed them when they are there they will no longer get scared of you

      Thank you. Actually I feed them early in the morning when only the grey ones are around but they are very shy and always fly in trees away from my garden. They see me throwing corn around and get back when I go inside or when I am far away from the corn. I guess this is in their genetics and instinct because most people hate crows, chase them and try to get rid of them.

    It's a pity that I understand English very poorly and didn't understand everything you said. But I roughly understood that the crows are welcome at your place and should therefore keep the hawk away. But they can't stop him from stealing pigeons. There are a lot of crows near me too. They're sitting around everywhere. When they spot the hawk, they scream and warn all the animals. But when the hawk is in attack mode, they can't stop it. If he has set his sights on a pigeon, he will not be disturbed by crows. My experience has shown that if his attack is unsuccessful, the crows will disturb him so that he cannot launch another attack. Then he usually flies away. But if he catches a pigeon, they leave him alone. Flies screaming after him, gathering in a tree and watching him eat the pigeon. The crows aren't much help, but their calling always lets him know when he's nearby.

      You can turn on the YT translation subtitles. I agree the crows won't stop an attack. I was showing that I use them to keep away the hawks from landing on my loft or on the aviary when the pigeons are inside, because they drive the pigeons crazy and stress them a lot. Especially the little sparrow hawk does that and it hates crows. Never saw it at the loft while the crows are around.

    Hello! I often hear that crows are very intelligent and loyal. If crows can alert your pigeons about danger that's even better. Our crows in Texas are black. Today it's a beautiful sunny day at around 62 Fahrenheit (16 Celsius) after a rainy day yesterday.

    Hi mate fantastic to see you use nature's natural alarm to keep predators away to many people say just shoot everything but nature as a natural way of doing things and usually the best roll on better weather and seeing the streaking across the sky👍

    Exactly what I do! So well done 👍 you! I noticed this after a year of studying my garden
    The crows sometimes fly at the hawks if there are a few of them the hawk releases the pigeon
    I know it’s nature it’s all a balance.

    Poti sa faci si o hranitoare pentru pasarele undeva mai sus, porumbeii invata repede cand dau pasarile alarma.

    • @Pigeonmaniacom
      @Pigeonmaniacom  6 місяців тому +2

      Porumbeii cunosc deja toate alarmele de la toate pasarile, inclusiv cei din cotet se retrag in cele mai ascunse colturi la cate un ciripit mai suspect. Le mai dau si acum floare la pitigoi departe de cotet cand e ger mare, dar am redus pentru ca anii trecuti stransesem prea multe pasarele in curte si tineam ulii pasarari numai in zona. Sunt mare iubitor de mierle si le dadeam mere taiate, am gasit mai multe mierle mancate in gradina. Acum le-am lasat mai natural merele in copaci sa se serveasca mai in siguranta, sper eu.

    When is racing season going to start....
    Also have u closed the bottom portion of loft because of winter or is it permanent.?
    Do u let pigeons out when it's fog?

    • @Pigeonmaniacom
      @Pigeonmaniacom  6 місяців тому

      We'll start in late April. I don't let them fly in fog, they can get hurt hitting cables. It's just wire mesh at the lower part under the loft. It keeps the pigeons and other animals (especially rats) getting under the loft to the pigeon food that collects there.
