  • See thousands of starlings flock together to create breathtaking patterns across the sky. #starlings #murmuration #birds #starlingmurmuration #flockingbirds #foxweather
    Thousands of starlings flock together to create these swooping, swirling patterns across the sky.
    The mesmerizing aerial ballet is known as a murmuration.
    The name comes from the murmuring sound the starlings’ wings make while beating in unison.
    During a murmuration, studies have shown that each starling responds to six or seven of its nearest neighbors.
    Despite its mesmerizing beauty, the reason for this phenomenon is still a mystery.
    However, it is believed that murmurations protect starlings from predators as well as keep them warm at night.

    close proximity helps them fly, along with many other things im sure. geese do it to in a much more mild way but each goose catches the wake of the one before it and it helps it to not work as hard to flap its wings. these little guys likely tire easily, you can tell how some parts move faster. they are helping each other remain airborn without more effort. gorgeous.

    • @brunoalves-pg9eo
      @brunoalves-pg9eo 9 місяців тому +2

      Geese fly in formation to reduce air drag and, as you said, reduce the effort. Cyclists do the same.
      Starlings on the other hand, don't fly in formation, these movements are much ore akin to a school of fish. It's probably to make it harder for predators such as falcons and eagles to target a single one of them.

    LOOK WHAT GOD HAS WROUGHT
    That's what I thought as I was totally mesmerized watching this.
    I actually was on a completely different site looking up species of black birds, hoping to identify the flock that comes early mornings, filling all the branches of my tree, some also landing in my yard, but it's the 'leftovers' parading, hop, skip & jumping across my roof that really burns me. The noise I could continue to deal with until hopefully they move on, and it's been weeks (kinda enjoyable actually 😊...Kinda), but the wear & tear on my roof is a concern (And for those of you who would say they won't damage it, 1st of all, you don't know that. And, you're not here listening to all the scratching & movement, & sometimes what sounds like pecking up there...).
    I've bought owl & hawk decoys. They should work. If not, I also bought a powerful hose end sprayer.
    (And it's not just my house...)
    And after watching this video, I'll wait a little longer.
    Absolutely hypnotic...
    He does such wonderful things...
