The CX-5 profile has been around since 2014ish with minor tweaks along the way. It is a timeless profile. It will never look bad. Meanwhile competitors do.
Tru
Still better than cx50 because made in Japan instead of cx50 made in USA
Yep, we bought a new NX Hybrid and I specifically looked for one that is made in Japan vs Canada.
Yeah and I'm like they made the CX 90 in Japan. Wild!😂
Sadly, I think you are right.
The Mazda cx5 is one of my favourite cars anytime because it looks great, especially the headlight, infotainment system really upscale
Touchscreen is dumb AF = accidents. Thank god Mazda designers are intelligent! Best SUV that is not Bavarian and under $60k.
you can make it touchscreen in the settings
I was recently in the market to buy an SUV. I use my cars mainly to go skiing in the mountains and make road trips, and I want to keep this next car for 8-10 years. My criteria, in order of importance, were: 1- Comfort; 2- Comfort, 3- Cargo space, 4- Good AWD, 5- Practicality, 6- Performance (very last). I test drive the 2023 CR-V, CX-5, CX-50, Rogue, Tiguan and Outback.
While the CX-5 is more elegant, I found it lacking in terms of road comfort when compared to the CR-V and Outback. Because the CR-V is significantly more expensive for what you get, my final pick was the Subaru Outback.
All this is to say that there are no best SUVs; All of them just come with tradeoffs, and you just need to pick what suits you best.
Given the models you are considering, cost is important. If you add proven reliability, 5 year cost to own and resale value, then your decision is much easier...you can omit the last three.
I liked the Outback but that CVT was just plain ugh! I went with the Mazda - Signature.
Those 90 degree rear doors really help when tossing someone binded with duct tape into the back seat.
Ah nice, first hand experience? 😂
Suicide doors like on a 63 Lincoln are better, lol.
Not all of us who are interested in the CX-5 have a family to be concerned with. Nor is back seat or cargo space a major factor. How about a well-detailed, reliable, and attractive compact SUV suitable for the older single or empty nester? Count me in.
Would like to hear from CX-5 owners who have had to live with it for a year +.
I bought a CX-5 in 2015 and have loved it ever since. I am single and It has enough room for me and passengers. It is a tight fit if you need to put 3 people in the back but honestly I never have that many people. I’ve taken it up trails as well and have never had an issue. It is just a really sturdy and expensive feeling vehicle. Would definitely recommend and wouldn’t think twice to buy another Mazda. Hope this helped!!
If you like reliability, this is it. 2018 grand touring just amazing, 4.5 years trouble free, best thing Mazda maintenance is so cheap comparing with Subaru, Honda, Luxus, Acura, Chevy blazer all of which I owned before, love the adaptive cruise control that it comes to complete stop and restart back, not all systems do that. Believe me when I tell you on the highway 65 miles speed, we get 34 MPG in the summer and 32-33 in the winter. I would buy it over and over again, just not the turbo as after 150k turbo parts might need replacement. Great car, just get the 4 cylinder premium plus and you are set.
I have 2021 with almost 20k the only issue I have is that I didn't buy a higher trim, love it so much that I bought CX-50 for my wife this year
I own a 2018, purchased in 2021. Absolutely the best vehicle I have ever owned. Classy looking and fun to drive! Go for it!
@@sailboatlighthouse where do you take it for maintenance ?
We just got the 2023 Premium + and it's a fantastic vehicle.
Thanks for mentioning the thigh support for the long leg people. It really makes a difference. My Kia has 20" seats which is great leg support. My Toyota has very short seats and they get uncomfortable quickly.
I'm 6' 3" with long legs. Thigh support is one of my major issues when car shopping. That's why I ended up with a Subaru Legacy Touring XT - it has a pull out thigh extension. Makes all the difference on long trips. Too bad its not a more common feature.
You hit it on the nail. Do you buy a tried and true vehicle or buy something brand new for the looks? I’m torn both ways. Good review!
Just purchased one on Thursday. Can’t believe it doesn’t have usb Cs and seat bolstering is weak…also need wireless CarPlay. Build quality is amazing. Great for the price
What r u talking about? I have one and it has everything you mentioned -.-
I came here because jimmy deserve more views
Thank you!!
Only a few seconds of the video and you can notice that. A really nice work, this guy deserve more subscribers and views.

Thanks for the video. Your serene demeanor and thw clarity of your verb are very good.
Thank you kindly!
We both love our CX5s. 22 models
Actually the display is a touchscreen. You can enable that in the settings.
Great review! And very nice white!
Mazda’s at it again - propping up the PPF industry like my PMG.
You get the color trim instead of the clad black plastic on the base model in the 2024 version. I bought the “S Select” in Rhodium White.
I love this car. It’s very quiet and a blast to drive.
Got the non turbo and drive in a spirited fashion. All city. Average is 8.9 l/ 100km
If Mazda discontinued this car they may be out of business. It's their bread and butter worldwide. The new generation cx5 has been confirmed for 2025.
Whats with these stupid comments? 😂 Have you ever tried an MX5? Best car brand out here.
@@Scifo321 Agreed, I'm a Mazda guy also. Still driving and loving my 2016 6. But they sell more cx5 worldwide than almost everything else they make combined. It's their bread and butter. It's no surprise there will be a new CX-5 model coming.
@@Scifo321niche car
This is how you make a proper car, no 10 speed gear boxes, unneccesary drive modes, fake this fake that, it is exactly what most drivers need and would appriciate
The Wind Chill Pearl is the best color choice period!
Thanks for this review. Quick question: Will the roof rails and racks on my 2021 CX-5 still fit on a 2023 CX-5?
Nice overall vid, Jimmy.... *A+* = Thanks!!!
Shame that the only way to get the painted cladding is to buy a turbo engine trim. Turbos just add another major point of problem/failure, just like cylinder deactivation technology.
Great review, thank you!!!
Hanks for watching!
What I hate the most is that my elbow hits the corner of the arm rest since its short and it doesn't extend. For some reason I can not get comfortable in the CX-5
Jimmy absolutely great review! one question. Does the turbo also have cylinder deactivation?
Thanks! It does not, that was only available for the naturally aspirated version
If I'm using the cx5 normally, which version ii's best for comfort and cost
wow, that's a mouthful describing a white color....
Jimmy with two car seats installed...can a 5'6 person sit in the middle still? Thanks
I have the signature in eternal blue wish it was the white.
Excellent Video!
2024 touch screen with CarPlay I love it , I got the carbon turbo😂
I love the CX5 but it’s wonderfully outdated somehow can’t explain exactly how I feel 😂
Is this car has diesel varient available?
Here in Canada Mazda has discontinued the diesel but I’m not sure in other countries.
The diesel variant has been plagued with problems.
Is this fuel efficient city driving
I own that exact (US) spec. 😊
At the end, you say it will be discontinued. Why discontinue a best seller ??
The platform has aged and the cx-50 should be it’s replacement. That being said, Mazda has not confirmed if that will happen.
Incredible car
Does it have wireless android auto or plug in?
Plug in
Seat is not soft.
Nappa leather seats in the CX 5 are soft, very soft. I sat in the Sport version with just leather seats and they were too firm for me but the Nappa is beautifully soft.
@@fungooloo12 This is interesting. All seat types share the same padding inside; there should not be that much of a difference.
I agree, the sides are too firm but I’m hoping they soften up with use.
@@fungooloo12 I have the top spec with Nappa leather. The seats are not soft. The padding on the seat and backrest are not soft. I’m using a seat cushion with over an inch of foam padding to make it comfy.
Love Price❤
If my knees didn't hit the sides I would go for one. I am not tall neither
agree with you, the cockpit design could be modified to allow for more knee spread on the left side where one's leg hits the unnecessary door handle location...and the right side could be indented/curved at the top edge of the console to allow the leg to rest against it more comfortably.
How mazda still does not have a touch screen blows my mind
Probably can't get the chips even if they wanted to upgrade, they can't even put the Bose system in right now due to chip shortage.
No touch screen is intentional.
You can use it as a touch the screen as long as the car is in park. I usually get in, set my destination on Waze with the Apple CarPlay turned on pick a podcast on Spotify or music and I barely have to adjust anything besides the volume for the entire drive. And if I do, I just use Siri to do everything like read text messages or send text messages you really have to use a knob.
@@ant5355if you go back into your settings where you paired your phone, the Bluetooth settings I think, there is an option to have touchscreen on when driving. I’m not sure if your car has it because it depends on the year model but worth checking out.
I at first thought that too but after using my infotainment knobs for a week my muscle memory kicked in and it’s a breeze to use. I don’t miss touchscreen at all now and no fingerprints to clean.
Mazda needs to get away from that audio control system. You will tend to look down at the nob on the console which is actually more dangerous than touching the screen in front of you.
You don’t look down. It just becomes intuitive.
I don't even think there are 2.4 L turbos in the market.......anymore. Maybe Volvo .....
Volvo all uses 2L turbos. Toyota and Lexus has a 2.4 Turbo.
Subaru Ascent and Outback have a 2.4 Turbo and it is fast!
That paint is now 595. Ridiculous
If you look H or T brand these days...yup mazda is the only ice car make sense these days..
Deze man heeft koude handjes ..............
For me it is all about excess space. There seems to be more space for the engine than people.
STOP the " It looks dated" BULLSHIT. It's time for car companies to STOP changing things so freakin often-- that "has to be new every year" is BULLSHIT-- like software people on computes updating things every day-- which is a crock.. EnOUGH-- when you get a GOOD design - like ths-- KEEP IT til no one buys it- THEN change it--
Dizel sa hibridno tehniko bi bilo idaalno
They make a diesel for the CX5 but the engine has many problems from what I hear. Everyone says stay away and keep the petrol one.
Pretvrda za grdsku voznju i preveliki potrošač
My CX5 is touch screen... 🤷

I hear the Mazda paint is crap.
The soul red color has reports of easy chipping but the other colors seem ok.
At the rate car makers are churning out gas guzzlers, I wonder how we are helping to mitigate climate change.
Ask Russia , India and China
Go hug a tree
ICE cars are not going away for a very, very long time. They maybe can mandate EVs for wealthy countries, but how is the developing world supposed to support an extensive charging infrastructure? Automakers aren't going to ignore the needs of those markets.
This white colour looks ok but i lacks a soul and it's so boring
