Selena may have called her "mami" affectionately, but I doubt Selena called her "mom" or saw her as a mother figure. Selena already had a mother of her own, with whom she was very close to. It would be like me travelling back to February 2, 1959 to warn Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper, and their pilot not to go. It wouldn't have made a difference. Things happen. I'm not going to express hatred upon Yolanda, even though I should. All I can say is that as much as she can say her conscious is clear by saying it was an accident, that's her only way to cope, because it still eats her alive to this day. I can only hope that she does not make parole in 2025, and has to pay for the death of an innocent life with the rest of hers.

I was a junior in high school, living in small-town Western Kentucky, as well as a city in East Texas, when I heard Selena’s ballad, “I Could Fall in Love.” The tender purity of her rich, soulful vocals, and that tearjerking melody- I had to know who it was, and just as I was learning it was a beautiful woman named Selena, she was killed. What a bright, beautiful light, and such an inherently pure, precious, shining spirit! She should’ve had the chance to live a long, joyful, successful life. She was too good for this world. 💔🌹

iamkarenh I know, it's not uncommon in Latin culture to call people "mami" or "papi" as terms of endearment, even if they're not your mother or father. My sister calls her 3-year-old son papi. Selena may have called her "mami" affectionately, but I doubt Selena called her "mom" or saw her as a mother figure. Selena already had a mother of her own, with whom she was very close to. She had no need for a surrogate.
I also think she killed her in a fit of rage. I don't think she intended to shoot at her until she was trying to leave, probably got pissed and went psycho. Oh well, now she's in prison forever because she couldn't control her emotions.

Yeah, but the thing that kills me, prior to the tragedy of Selena her father didn't do a background check on Yolanda. He didn't find out that Yolanda embezzled money from her previous doctor employer until after he discovered that money was missing from both the fan club and boutiques. That's what annoys me. How do you hire a complete stranger and not know anything at all about him or her. Face facts, Selena was extremely sheltered and not really street wise on the many characters that want to cheat, lie, swindle, and eventually murder you. Selena trusted her father and family and she trusted her father to the point that she took her father's advice to hire Yolanda for her boutiques. Although Yolanda had no experience in managing retail space and employees whatsoever. Bad business practices were being committed and Selena's employees were leaving left and right, because of Yolanda. There were many signs for Selena to fire that woman long time ago. I believe that there's more to their relationship than what meets the eye. The tragedy could've been avoided from the beginning!
