      Nah you're missing the point. It's not about that, it ain't about us it's about making a statement & stance against the industry because Kanye is one of the only ones who actually has the ability to do it.
      plus if 10% of people buy it he'll make more than it would on spotify & make it immediately. he dont care that the rest get it for free cause having it on spotify is effectively free anyway, Im willing to bet the revenue from DSPs wouldn't even be a fraction of what he spent actually making let alone promoting the album. this ain't about the money (although he'll make more this way guarenteed), we all know kanye wants to be special. he wants to be at the front of the inevitable change that's coming to the industry which is good because in the past it's always been the companies that get the jump & that's why artists always get fucked. if the artists lead the charge this time it will be better.

    People really acting like buying an album is greedy when that’s how it’s been done for the majority of history. Sure, the 20 dollar price point might be a bit much, but it seems like it’s subject to change which is good. I’d say 5-10 dollars would be a reasonable price considering that it’s digital only, but I’m buying regardless. As a statement, it’s much more powerful for him to sell his music on his own terms instead of relying on the industry to give him play after what it’s done to him. Long term people will understand this as more of a power play than a cash grab. But today Ye is dealing with a generation of entitled zoomers that never bought an album before and want something either for free or at their convenience . The entire premise behind the album is to demonstrate that he is a legendary artist that has no need for the gatekeeping middle-men of the industry trying to control him. No better way to prove that he’s his own man than to own his own music and to profit from its sales directly.

    I feel that what he is doing is creating a path for small artist to learn how to connect with their fan base. Going back to direct to consumer without getting ripped from labels and streaming platforms. Labels will hold you in contract telling you that you’re music will earn you less than 40% of a split when the revenue comes thru and streaming platforms stream is worth less than half a penny per stream. We are taking what we own back by following in his steps. We as artist need to reconnect with our supporters directly

    • @lazhwardafsharzada
      @lazhwardafsharzada 5 місяців тому +4

      Exactly. It needs to be normalized for artists to be independent and it needs to be be normalized for a consumer to pay the artist directly. If a smaller artist can sell their album for 3 bucks to 10 000 people for example, that's a win.

    • @1618Cyrano
      @1618Cyrano 5 місяців тому

      Bruh the path already exists its called underground DIY. It's what the majority of artists do but most consumers aren't plugged into any scenes and just consume whatever is mainstream and established. The Ye mentality is massive in underground rock sub genres through bandcamp and the standard, even the soundcloud wave had a DIY direct audience connection. There's a whole world out there aside from major label shit, YE isn't doing anything ground breaking he just wants more money lol

    I gotta disagree the independent route is what’s picking up speed right now and the big industry is on hospice. It’s a big shift happening.

  • @vulpedavid

    There should be a way to make an album have value again, because right now people see music as free, and it shouldn't be the case because it's a product just like a burger is. I am just not sure a digital album is the way to go.
    On the other hand streaming brought something really good too: making money from music in perpetuity. When people bought CDs or Vinyls 90% of the revenue was in the first month and then its pretty much gone. Now you have people like Morgan Wallen that sell tens of thousands of units a year after release because of streaming.

    I don’t think it’s a bad idea. It’ll limit the album for sure but if he sells it off his website it’ll for sure get sales. Especially if it comes with a shirt or something. Daylyt said this back in 2018 I believe and his album moved like 100k copies. It’s possible. Streaming sites are unfair to artist and trapped consumers into paying $9.99 for the rest of their lives.

I know it will severely diminishing the reach of the album but if your just about the money selling just 1000 vinyl's for lets say 50 each is 50,000 while getting a million streams on a song is 4000 which is freaking insane! Since Kanye is already a superstar I feel like this is much easier for him then most.

    1st, I respect that Ye is putting a value on his craft. He should sell both volumes 2 and 3 as vinyl especially after the rollout issue he had with these streaming platforms. Number 2, Ye is moving just for the controversy atp. Like let’s keep it a stack. He’s pushing back on the music industry wanting more money for his music but just 2 weeks ago he said he wants to mark down clothes and shoes only charging his consumers $20 to make it affordable seemingly pushing back on the high priced luxury retail industry and because it’s not about the money. I’m just trying to see where he’s drawing the line in the sand because he seems to be pouring water on the line and redrawing it every time.

    You have to look at the demographic of hip hop/rap listeners. Majority are poor and are used to living off the system. Getting everything handed to them for free. The artists put there soul into each project. You don’t just shit out gold in 5 minutes. Their efforts should be compensated. You think Kanye cares about all scum that pirate everything? Taking out the middle man and selling direct to the consumer is huge in terms of profit margin. What he’s doing is business 101.

    I think Ye is against the concept of streaming, and wants to go against the idea that music free, he wants to lead and want other artists to see that streaming isnt the way. The problem is that the current infrastructure isnt built for this whole other system that Ye and James Blake might envision. Streaming is tied to capitalism, it will not be easy to force capitalism to have a different shape, you would need political support for that or convince corporations that there is more money to be made with a different system. The thing is that big labels aren't needed that much anymore in the age of the internet, labels have some type of control through streaming services. Hopefully all artist will be independent one day.
