    In Costa Rica the streets are in poor condition, Costa Rica has problems with garbage, the locals want to charge double when they see you as a tourist, the food is too expensive and crime is worse. However, in Panama there is more development, better streets, the people are friendly and educated, the food is cheaper, the technology, we must bear in mind that Panama is the richest country and with the highest human development in Central America and therefore that there is less poverty and crime. Visit both countries and you will realize that Panama is the best option, we lived in Costa Rica for 1 year and we moved to Panama. We have lived in Panama for 10 years and it was the best option, we love Panama.

    I lived in Panama for 5 years. It’s very well developed because of all the USA had put into it and the canal. They also benefit in good drinking water there because of the bases that were there. In Guatemala and other countries we had to buy bottled water. We got to go back and visit Panama again in 2016....I’m still in love with Panama.....it has my heart.

    Since Noriega, there is no military in Panama. There is, however, a militarized police force: the Policia Nacional; many patrol on motorcycles. They frequently check on banks and malls for security. They're usually friendly.
    In Panama City, it may rain for 2-3 hours with beautiful thunderstorms mixed in, after which the sun comes back out generally. Much more humid, though, April through Jan. But in higher mountain regions, such as Chiriquí, the story may be different. 🤠

    Panama has more positive points than Costa Rica. 1. In Costa Rica, the streets in poor condition and full of holes do not invest in infrastructure, however in Panama there are good roads until the most distant town has good streets. 2. Cost of living in Costa Rica is very high, technology is very expensive, food. In Panama it is cheaper to buy a car, technology and even a house. 3. In Costa Rica use colones, one day there is a price tomorrow is another price, inflation in Costa Rica is unbearable. In Panama there is price stability because they use the dollar. 4. Costa Rica being a low income country there is more poverty and as a result more crime. However, Panama is the richest country in Central America and with the highest human development, there is less poverty and crime. Costa Rica is very overrated, it is not worth paying so much money for a country that has little to offer. There is a lot of nature in Panama and even in Guatemala, Panama has more forested areas than Costa Rica, you have to know, my wife and I traveled all over Central America and we decided on Panama, it is the best there is in Central America.

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  Рік тому +1

      Valid points and we agree on most @Marco's AQ.
      We will maybe say it in a different way... that Costa Rica DOES have much to offer as does Panama. 🥰
      We are Canadian and so for us having the dollar as the basis in Panama was actually more expensive or equal to our cost of living in Canada whereas some less touristy areas in Costa Rica were more affordable for us. So, that is something else to consider.
      In our experience, it's just like anywhere in a country, you can find pockets where it's more expensive and you have a harder time living and then there are other pockets in the same country where you find very affordable places to live with an easier cost of living and pace of life.
      We quite enjoyed our time in both countries but at this point we probably wouldn't consider going back to either until we check the list off of several other countries. 🙊
      For instance we are in Ecuador right now and it's an incredible balance between an astonishing amount of biodiversity, a stable US dollar and a low cost of living. 👍
      Stay tuned to our UA-cam channel for more videos on Ecuador to come!
      Thank you for watching this video and we really appreciate your comment and perspective on all your points above. So glad you found a great life in Panama!

    Cost of living and crime would be high on my priority list. Looks like CR would be best to visit and Panama is a better option to live. I am curious what the difference is for visas?

    • @PlanFree
      @PlanFree  3 роки тому

      Yes you pretty much nailed it with the cost of living in crime overall and generally speaking both would be a bit higher in Costa Rica that is our experience and what we heard from many people we met and lower overall and generally in Panama.
      Depends on so many things to though which locations in Panama and Costa Rica....etc.
      For your Visa question what kind of visas are you referring to our experience was just the tourist visa in Costa Rica only gives Canadians 3 months to stay and Panama give 6 months so that's really nice to know you don't have to cross the border and return again.

    I'm in Costa Rica now for 5 months and feel this is it. This is very difficult to live in a country where people have a very low level of responsibility. I'm not sure how it is in Panama, but in CR they promise something, and if it's not done or fixed as promised it's normal. Also, you'll will be gringooed , which is overpaying pretty much everywhere just because you are not a local. This is very annoying, sometimes gets's over my patience.

      Hey thanks for your comment @Best Of Costa Rica!
      Well we definitely experienced what you are talking about.
      It does seem to be a very relaxed culture and sense of time, perhaps a lack of urgency.
      It can happen in several countries and communities...we have seen it in smaller communities in Panama, a lot of communities in CR and we have also seen and heard about it in Mexico.
      It IS very frustrating. Especially the overpaying just because we have lighter skin or appear Canadian, American, or European for example.
      We, to this day, have no idea how to overcome this and can completely sympathize!

      @PlanFree  3 роки тому

      Hi @Catherine Hunt, You are most welcome for the video.
      What did you like best about it?
      When we lived in CR it was quite easy to cross the border and go back again. We lived in the Osa/Sierpe region of CR and then in a later year we lived in the Volcan/David area and both times we crossed the border near the Pacific side of CR/Panama. We crossed in the Paso Canoas area. 🙂
      I would imagine all border crossings (the 2 biggest crossings between CR and Panama are: Paso Canoas SE in CR and Sixaola in the NE of CR) would be operating the same in both countries.....but times might have been different NOW then we we lived in these countries! With Covid now, you may want to look into what Panama requires from a traveler for entry for the day or for a few days and if it's minimal (for ex. no test or insurance) then you'd be good to go!
      Let us know how it turns out for you!

    This was a great video!
    The imagery was breathtaking (although maybe some titles to distinguish which countries they were from might help in the future). Personally, I appreciated the currency and dollar use comparison.
    Being from Puerto Rico the product diversity, rainy seasons, and general natural stability (e.g., earthquakes, tsunami threats, hurricanes, etc.) are MUCH better in both CR or Panama. Regarding crime, both countries are [statistically] significantly better than living in the US or any other Central/South American country as well.

    One of the many problems no one addresses is the Panamanian currency. Although Panama has its own currency (the Balboa), however, Panama also uses the U.S. dollar. The Balboa to U.S. dollar exchange rate is 1-to-1, which doesn't make since when it comes to GDP. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Panama was worth 52.94 billion US dollars in 2020. Compare that to the U.S. GDP in 2020 at $20.93 trillion. So how did the 1-to-1 exchange rate balance off? Someone with subject matter expertise in economy explain this...I am not convinced that Panama is the best or most beneficial place to retire. Healthcare and medical services outside of Panama City is horrible. DO NOT expect hospitals outside of Panama City to have the same quality. Start asking what expats do not like about Panama...
