The Neewer NL-660 has been a great solution for studio lighting. That being said It does have its limitations. In this video I am upgrading my NL 660 kit with a softbox. If you are wanting to take your content creation to the next level, you will need to nail the lighting! In this video I will clearly outline some of the basic fundamentals, tips & tricks on how to do a proper UA-cam Lighting Setup. I don't understand why people are saying this doesn't come with grid. Amazon do show that it also comes with grid, you just need to search correctly, even if you hit the link that this guy mentioned in the description, you can see other options where it does come with the grid. Thank you so much Andrew, this video was very helpful, I bought these lights and they were so harsh on my face when I do my makeup videos. After several trials, I was thinking to buy different brand soft boxes but now I can easily get the soft box to put on top of these lights. Thank you!!!
I bought the softbox last month. There were no grid and no options to buy with the grid.

You can get the same diffusion by cutting up a thin white sheet, and using clothes pegs to attach the sheet to the barn doors! Job done 👍
thanks. i found myself using these lights more often than Apurture 120D II given how good they are, portable and quick to set up

It is certainly a good addition to the light. I think a better result can be achieved using a translucent panel on stand because that way you enlarge the light source and get even a more pleasant even light with that of course portability is minimized but if circumstances allow it I will go for the translucent panel for the result and ability to use it with other light sources and different scenarios. But the softbox is definitely better than nothing
The only thing I hate about the soft box is the inability to tilt the light downward due to the stand getting in the way.
This is such a great video! I love that you showed us how to install the diffuser and the with and without photos. 🙌🏽. I need new lights to create fashion and beauty content for my channel. After watching this I definitely feel like I should get the soft boxes because the lights may be too harsh without it. Thank you!!!

Hey this is a great and informative video! My 660's came with the soft boxes. I'm looking for the honey comb attachment. Everyone in the comments saying the web attachment is not included when you click on the link he attached. Amazon changed it I guess. However, I did find the soft boxes with the attachment. They cost a little more though ($57.99). You can copy and paste this link in Amazon to locate the lights or just type in the info below. I'm curious. Have you done a video that shows real-world brightness of these panels? eg. How close to the subject at full power do they have to be? Can they be bounced off a ceiling, etc.?
Great video, I thinks that the lights were better without the diffusion for the products , but if it human skin that you are lighting; then i''ll go always for the diffuser.
That is great insight! For me, I think the diffuser does a good job separating the main subject from the background. However, depending on the environment I can totally see a case without the diffusion. Thanks for sharing!
What I would like to know is what your exposure triangle is at a certain distance say four or five feet. that's iso f stop shutter speed.

Nice that the lights already have cases where you can store the diffuser and barn foors!
I also bought one for my fill light. My space is small with a large LG 43” monitor and anything to cut the glare down will be helpful!

PS: The picture where your non diffused face shows a harsh line because of the hat, it also does so with the shadow of your neck! Also the corner of you mouth almost seems 2-3 micro shades of lighter black???

Strange, but these examples aren’t showing THAT much of a difference. I’ve seen comparisons where the difference is much starker.
Could that honeycomb be making it a little harsher??? But...
You kept saying Diffusion Panel...which is pre-installed in the Neewer...and I assume you left them in there. Shouldn’t your captions have said soft box?
I have two 480s coming today (the RGB versions) with soft boxes, and I don’t think these boxes come with the honeycomb attachment. Tomorrow, I have two 660s coming, bi-color, which I’m just going to use to light my green screen, so no soft boxes for that.
Awesome review! How can you tilt down the led panel With the softbox? Did u buy an umbrella adapter?
That's one thing annoying about these lights on the default stands that they are hard to til down, will probably have to get a different stand for them
@@TheFlyFishingFilmmaker Get a H mount to install inbetween your light and your stand and you’re good to go. That’s how I have mine setup.

Good stuff.....Is it worth to spend money on this box? And what is that spider web which attaches in the front? Is that just to support or does it play any role in the lighting?
They are really hard to get now. I have been waiting for mine to be shipped for about 1 month. They should arrive in one week. Also, I already own the circular softbox for the 660. This one is also really nice, but since I have two 660's, I will have both options. I have been using an umbrella diffusor for my other 660, which works amazingly well. But it does cause a lot of light spill.
What are the flaps on the neewer used for?
I know that using the Godox you mount the box and use a honeycomb so that you only light the subject and not the background. Is this what the flaps are used for??? Thanks for your time.
Thanks for the video. You said yours came with the diffuser webbing stuff. It doesn’t state that in the description at Amazon. Was it a surprise when you opened the box?

The link you provided for the soft box is not the same you in your video. It doesn't come with the egg crate to control light spill.

How do you direct the light up or down?
What happens when you remove the standard diffuser on the light, then add the light box diffuser?

i cannot find this grid attachment anywhere online and the softbox does not come with it in the kit.

It definitely needs the soft box BUT it didn’t make a huge difference. A shame they don’t make a larger soft box.

i've done some research and it looks like this softbox grid panel attachment no longer exists so this video doesn't really help anyone.
